“And I was considering taking a small break. I have been working for ages, don’t you think that I deserve a small break, Noah?” In a classy restaurant, where a chandelier hung on the ceiling with dim lighting and a red, expensive carpet was spread over the floor——

Ariel was sitting opposite Noah on a chair, while a sumptuous meal was placed in front of her on a small round table. Three candles burned in the candleholder and next to it sat a delicate glass vase with roses inside it.

She was holding a fork and a knife while cutting a steak which was much pricier than Ariana’s salary in the small café and blabbered about her job, her work pressure and how she was suffering with the tasks in her hands.

Noah, on the other hand, was not paying attention to what Ariel was saying. All his attention was on what Nicolai had told him earlier in the afternoon when he went to see him.

‘Everything that you know about your wife, are your assumptions. I bet not only is Ari a just and honest woman, but she is a wild cat in bed. It’s just that you never tried to find it out, but I will… I will strip her layer by layer until she is stripped bare. I will make her mine.’

Those words were like poison. The more Noah thought about it, the more he felt suffocated. The very thought of Ari under Nicolai made him breathless, he did not want his wife to be anywhere close to Nicolai much less in his bed!

Would Ari agree with Nicolai? Noah was confident previously, but he also knew what kind of person Nicolai was, he was stubborn like a bull and once he set his mind on something, no one could move him. If that man was determined to get Ariana, would he stop?

The answer was an obvious no.

Now Noah was filled with fear and trepidation. He never thought that Ariana was a beautiful woman, more importantly, she was his wife. Thus, he had never felt a sense of danger.

But now, he felt raw terror. It was as if someone were coveting what belonged to him, and Noah couldn’t even stop that person.

He clenched his fingers, causing his knuckles to turn white.

Noah had seen the changes in Ariana and knew that she had become a charming woman. He understood Nicolai’s desire to win her over, but somewhere, he did not like the thought of Ariana with Nicolai.

“Noah!”

“Noah?!”

“NOAH!”

Noah snapped out of his daze and looked at Ariel who was staring at him with a bewildered look on her face. She questioned, “Why are you so quiet? I have been talking for so long, but you did not even respond. Is everything alright?” She sounded concerned.

“I am fine,” Noah released a shaky breath. His mind kept telling him that he did not need to worry about Ariana as Ariel was his saviour, and she was the woman whom he swore to marry. But his heart …it was as if something were weighing on it, making it impossible for him to breathe.

“No, something is up,” Ariel was quick to notice the changes in Noah. Usually, Noah made sure that all his attention was on her, but tonight he was lost in thoughts. “We have been together for a long time, Noah. It’s not wrong to say that we grew up together, so how can I not sense that there is something wrong with you?”

She reached her hand forward and held Noah’s, “You know you can tell me anything, Noah. Before anything else, I am your best friend.”

Ariel’s pretence warmed Noah’s heart. He could not help but compare, Ariel’s concern with Ariana who had sneered at him. He obviously wanted to help her and was worried that she would be duped by Nicolai, yet Ariana questioned his sincere concern and even showed a bad attitude.

Furthermore, he sighed and explained, “It is nothing. A few days ago, I went to look for Ariana and told her that I could repay the debt for her, but she refused and even informed me that I shouldn’t bother with her as I am being hypocritical.”

When Ariel heard his words, the smile on her face almost slipped. She clenched her fingers under the tablecloth until they dug into her palm. Went to look for Ariana? Noah wanted to repay her debt.

Ariel could feel an alarming sensation rising in her heart. Why was Noah looking for Ariana, and why was he even suggesting paying her debt? If Ariana repaid the debt, then how would she sell her to the Serpents?

Fortunately, Ariana refused or else!

Though Ariel was angry, she smiled sweetly and patted Noah on the back of his hand. She quickly said, “There is no need for you to worry. My sister is a stubborn woman, once she suffers a little, she will understand what is good for her.”

“You don’t understand,” Noah shook his head. “I am afraid that Ariana has taken a loan from Nicolai. You also know what kind of man he is, don’t you?”

However, Ariel did not hear anything past Nicolai De Luca.

“WHAT?” Her voice turned high-pitched and shrill.

She remembered the call that Mister Fletcher made to her a few days ago. He asked her whether Ariana knew Nicolai or not. Back then Ariel believed Ariana couldn’t be close to Nicolai and refused at once.

Now that Noah told her that Ariana had taken a loan from Nicolai, she could not help but shiver.

What kind of person Nicolai was? He was the kind of man who could ruin anyone without batting an eye.

If Ariana got close to Nicolai, then what would happen to her?

Noah was startled by Ariel’s screech. He looked at the woman in front of him and questioned, “What’s wrong?”

Ariel was originally frightened by what Noah, said to her but she calmed down when she heard his voice. She smiled with a pale complexion and said, “I … I can’t believe that Ari did something so foolish.”

Yes foolish! Now because of her, Ariel was worried about Mister Fletcher’s retaliation.
