Chapter 139: Payment? A kiss shall suffice.
Ariel’s heart was filled with dread, yet she pretended to be fine.

“I never thought that for the sake of getting rid of the debts, Ari would do something so stupid,” Ariel spoke aggrieved. Her eyes turned teary as she batted her eyelashes that were adorned with her pearl-like tears. “Maybe it’s our fault. Our family never gave Ari a sense of security, perhaps if we did then she would have come to ask us for help instead of looking for someone so dangerous.”

Her words were filled with nothing but concern for her little sister, but inwardly Ariel was panicking and furious. She could not wrap her head around the fact that Ariana was actually acquainted with Nicolai De Luca.

How did this happen?

‘Will Mister Fletcher blame me for this?’ Ariel wondered worriedly. The more she thought, the more she was scared. Ariel knew that Mister Fletcher was a vengeful man, he would definitely try to get back at her.

If Mister Fletcher came to look for her, she needed Noah to protect her. She would have to make sure Noah wouldn’t let that barbaric man ruin her. “Ariana has really let me down, don’t worry Noah. I will talk to her for you, no matter what, Ariana’s actions are just not right.” She pushed the blame on Ariana.

Noah’s eyes softened as he looked at the blaming look on Ariel’s face, where it held worry lines.

“You are really kind, Ariel. Even when Ariana has caused so much trouble for you and even snatched what rightfully belonged to you, you are still willing to look after her,” Noah prayed to Ariel with a sweet smile.

Ariel’s eyes held a smile in them, she looked at Noah who was staring at her with an affectionate gaze. Without looking away from Noah, she said,

“It is not appropriate to say that she snatched anything from me. If anything maybe it never belonged to me, if it was mine to begin with, then how could Ari take it?” Ariel showed off her compassion and understanding as an elder sister. She took a sip of the red wine and continued speaking, “No matter what, the things that happened in the past cannot be changed. We need to move forward and not waste our time sulking over what could have happened. Ari is my sister, and she grew up in front of me, how can I watch her ruin her life?”

“You are right,” Noah sighed. He nodded at her words and agreed, “No matter what, we cannot sit back and watch Ariana ruin her life.”

Ariel was smiling on the surface, but inwardly she was raging. She had expected Noah to ignore Ariana like always, in the past when she used to say such words, Noah asked her to not bother with Ariana.

But now he wanted her to speak to Ariana and stop her from going astray.

‘Why? Why is he worried about that bitch?’ Ariel cursed with her jaw clenched tightly. Now Ariel was even more worried.

This sudden change in Noah scared her too much, and she couldn’t even think straight.

No! Ariana could not stay. If that woman remained in the city, Ariel was worried that Noah would slowly change his attitude towards her. Today he was worried about her safety, what if …what if he suddenly became interested in her?

The lies that Ariel had spoken to Noah were not foolproof. If Noah got close to Ariana, Ariel was afraid that those lies would be peeled off layer by layer. If that happened, what would become of her?

A ruthless glint flashed in Ariel’s eyes as she sneered inwardly, ‘Don’t blame me for being cruel, Ari. You are the one who is obstructing my happiness. Only when you are gone, will I get what I want.’

Though Ariel felt a bit nervous, she calmed herself down after telling herself that she was not killing Ariana. She was only sending her to the bed of a rich man, compared to murdering and silencing Ariana—— she still took a merciful path.

Ariana woke up the next day feeling a bit rejuvenated. The fever medicine had worked, and she was no longer feeling sick and tired. Her bones were no longer aching, and her eyes were not burning either.

“Woof!”

Timmy rushed to her side as he nudged his face against Ariana. It was as if he were trying to check her temperature.

“I am fine, Timmy,” Ariana chuckled as she rubbed Timmy’s fur with her hands. “Did I scare you yesterday? I am so sorry, baby.” Ariana kissed Timmy on his head, her fingers continued to skim through his fur when her fingers ended up hitting something.

She glanced at the small plastic bag that was tied around Timmy’s neck and pulled the knot open. Ariana glanced at the bag, only to see a pack of medicines along with a small bowl of porridge. Even though she did not see a name on the package, she knew who sent it.

Ariana glared at Timmy. “You, naughty boy! Since when did you become so close to that man?” She was obviously talking about Nicolai.

Timmy woofed a few times with his head tilted to the side innocently. He looked as if he had no idea what Ariana was talking about. Seeing him act like this, Ariana was amused. She ruffled the fur of her fur baby and then slid down the bed.

With the package in hand, she walked out of the room and headed to the small dining room that was connected to the living room and kitchen. She set it down on the table and hesitated before sending a message to Nicolai.

Since he had sent her breakfast and medicine, it was only right for her to pay him back. Ariana thanked him while asking for the money that she needed to repay.
