Chapter 140: Simpering smiles hides million lies
“This damned man!” Ariana immediately exited the messaging app. She extended her finger, and he was trying to cling to her hand!
She ignored the message and then turned to take a bath. Ariana hadn’t taken a bath yesterday as she was too lost in her own thoughts and later fell sick. However, now she wanted to do better.
Once she took a bath, Ariana dressed up in a white t-shirt and matching pants, a denim jacket thrown over her shoulders as she stepped out of the room. Her long hair was tied in a ponytail as she pranced around the house, picking trash.
The apartment had turned into a pigsty as Ariana had not bothered to clean it while she was wallowing in her unsettling emotions. Her gaze fell on the dust and debris, and Ariana pursed her lips.
“Aiden was right, I can’t go on like this,” Ariana muttered. Now that she had let go of the past, it was time for her to embrace the present and live a better life, after forgetting the things that happened to her.
“Woof!” Timmy barked alongside her as if agreeing with her.
His antics brought a smile to Ariana’s lips. She patted him on the head before cleaning up the house that was filled with trash and by the time she placed the broom on the side, Ariana had filled three trash bags.
Seeing the three trash bags, Ariana was speechless. She did not clean for two days and the house collected so much trash. Damn it! What kind of life was she living?
Ariana rubbed her forehead. “It seems like after getting rid of the Nelson family, I have become lazy.” In the past, she used to wake up and even when her body and mind did not feel like working, Ariana was pulled out of bed and forced to cook and clean by Madam Nelson.
However, now there was no Madam Nelson to screech at the top of her head and Ariana seemed to have gotten a tad bit lazier.
With a sigh, Ariana finished her work and then sat down to eat the breakfast that Nicolai brought for her. Ariana glanced at the creamy porridge that had pieces of chicken inside of it and knew that it was from some expensive restaurant.
As she had never seen such a sumptuous porridge before.
Though she had plenty of resources in the Nelson family, she was only allowed to eat after everyone finished eating. Madam Nelson told her that as Noah’s wife, it was her responsibility to serve her husband instead of sitting down and eating as his equal.
‘When I married Noah’s father, I used to stand and serve the entire family. This is what a woman of class is supposed to do. Before yourself, you should think of your family and husband.’
These teachings were instilled in Ari’s head the second day she was married to Noah. Thus, the meals she had in the past were either leftovers of the family or cold meals.
“How warm,” Ariana bit into the rice and sighed. When was the last time she ate a warm meal served by someone? From the start, it was she who had served others.
She glanced at the porridge and chuckled. Who would have thought that a mafia man would be the first one to bring a warm meal to her?
Ariana finished her meal and then walked out of the house with the trash bags in her hands. She headed to the small dumpster which was not far from the apartment building but as soon as Ariana stepped out of the building’s gates, her gaze fell on a woman.
The smile on Ariana’s lips fell as she looked at the woman standing outside.
“Good morning Ari,” Ariel greeted Ariana with a breezy voice, her lips curled in a professional smile.
“I do not see how this morning is good, after seeing you,” Ariana stated as she clutched the trash bags in her hands. “Done hiding like ostriches?” She taunted remembering the many calls that she had made to Ariel, but the woman had ignored every single one of them as she did not wish to take in any part of the debt that was pushed to Ariana.
Ariel pursed her lips. She knew that Ariana was mocking her, but she also understood that it was not the time to lose her temper. More importantly unlike Ariana, she was a public figure that could not lose her reputation.
“There is something that I wish to talk to you about,” stated Ariel without losing her calm. Her eyes stared at Ariana with a hint of impatience. “There is a small café where we can sit and talk. So follow me,” she said peremptory.
However, as Ariel turned on her sharp heels she realized that Ariana was not following her. She turned around and glanced at Ari before furrowing her brows. She questioned, “What are you trying to do? Did you not hear what I said?”
“I did, however I have no reasons to follow you,” stated Ariana coldly. “Unless you are here to talk to me about sharing the debts and how much money you are going to pinch in, I don’t see the point in following you.”
When Ariel saw how hard-hearted Ariana was, she was shocked. She did not expect, Ariana, to show her such a tough attitude. She blinked her amber eyes and curled her lips in a sweet smile, “I am indeed here to talk about debt, Ariana. There is no need for you to be so wary of me, it’s not like I am taking you to a dark alley. I am asking you to follow me to a café. What can I do to you in a public place?” If not for the fact that she was worried about someone recording her, Ariel would have dragged Ariana with her.
How dare this woman show such an attitude in front of her?
Did she forget that she was born to be her shadow?
Ariana stared at Ariel for a while before nodding. Ariel was correct, what could she do to her in a public place?
