Chapter 150: Her worth
Noah’s question set a fire in Ari’s heart.
Seeking thrill?
So in his eyes, the reason she left the Nelson family and took Nicolai’s offer was because she wanted to seek thrill?
Ari’s chest heaved up and down, she was so angry that she wanted to rip the man’s tongue out of his mouth.
“Mister Nelson! Just because you have a mouth, doesn’t mean that you can say anything that you want,” Ari stated through gritted teeth. “I might not be a woman whom you respect, but that does not mean you have the right to embarrass or humiliate me. For you, this might be nothing but seeking a thrill, but that is only because you cannot understand my ambition.”
She then turned to look at the door next to her and pushed it open, when Ari saw that it did not budge, she ignored Noah and pressed on the button to open the door of the car that he had locked when he pushed her inside the car.
“If you stay with Nicolai, sooner or later, you will die!” Noah saw her leave and couldn’t help but coldly spit those words out. He seemed bemused by her stubbornness. Could Ari not see that she was safe with him? Was there any need for her to act like such? No matter what he could bring her the peace that she wanted and deserved.
Even if he didn’t love her, he could protect her. Anyone with eyes could see that he was a better man and choice than Nicolai.
“Noah, do you think that I was living well in your house?” Ari turned around and glared at the man who was speaking nonsense. For her Nelson’s mansion was a pot filled with boiling water, and she was tossed inside that pot the very day she married Noah.
“Isn’t that——”
“Just giving someone a roof to sleep under and three meals a day doesn’t mean that they were living well. There is more than that for a marriage to work,” Ari sneered. She clenched her fists and remembered all the things that Noah’s mother and sister had said to her. “You might not know but when you were not at home, your mother, and sister said tons of things. Ugly things.”
“Sure they did not raise their hands on me but do you know what? Sometimes words hurt more than physical blows. This is why a tree will dry down and wither if people were to curse it every day!”
“I was in the same situation. Your mother never respected me, your sister condemned me. I was in pain every day because of their harsh words, I wanted my husband to help me. To support me, but you did not even look at me!” Ari stated with an agitated expression. “You did not even hear what I have to say! Even now, you are chasing after me not because you care, but because you have believed the rumours and foolish words of others!”
“What do you mean?” Noah turned to look at her sharply. What did she mean by that he believed in the words of others?
Ari scoffed. She blinked her eyes, willing the tears away. She couldn’t believe that this was the man whom she fell for, he didn’t even know what was wrong with his actions.
Maybe because Noah never thought that he was in the wrong. Gathering herself she stared at the man,
“You are trying so hard because you want to convince me, right? Someone told you that I was selling my body to Nicolai and you took their word to hear?” Ari stated with a pair of cold eyes.
Noah didn’t say a word to refute her, or maybe he did not have a response to deny the claim that Ari made in front of him.
Seeing him stay silent, Ari sneered coldly. She raised her hand and could no longer stop herself. She slapped Noah on the face, causing the sound of a crisp slap to echo in the car’s interior.
“Believe it or not, I have more than my body to offer. The woman you fell in love with, might have nothing else than her body, but I have a thing called a brain,” Ari spat fiercely as she watched Noah raise his hand and touch the cheek which she had slapped.
Ari pushed open the door of the car and then stepped out. She was going to slide down the seat but then paused and turned to look at Noah. “Tell your little twittering birds that the next time they dare to spread rumours about me, I will see them in court. I might not be able to drag them into prison, but I will ruin their reputation just like they are ruining mine.”
“Just because they cannot amount to anything, there is no need for them to lump me in together with them. Fools shall remain fools, but I am not a fool.”
Once she was finished speaking Ari slid down the seat and closed the door of the car with a bang.
“Ari!” Danny, who had been following Noah’s car, jumped out of Jace’s car and rushed to where Ari was, he walked over to her and clasped her arms. “Are you alright? Do you need me to call the police?”
Danny couldn’t believe Noah. That man was driving even more dangerously than a cat drunk on catnip. Fortunately, nothing happened to Ari or else if Noah had made even the smallest mistake, Ari’s life could have been ruined.
She was going to start practising as a doctor, in case her hands were injured in this mess, who would have taken responsibility for it?
“I am fine…did you bring my purse with you? I feel sick,” said Ari while dry-heaving. She wanted to throw up, but she didn’t as it would be embarrassing. She just left Noah with her head and chin raised, it would be too embarrassing if she were to crouch down and start throwing up here, right where he could see her.
