Chapter 152: A butler’s trouble
“Call Elaine, I want to talk to her,” Madam Mia stated with a stern voice. Her arms were crossed in front of her as she waited for Glynn to make the call.
Glynn, on the other hand, was shocked. She blinked her eyes while staring at her mother for two seconds, only when she was convinced that Madam Mia was not joking, did Glynn let out a disbelieving scoff. “Mom, are you being serious right now?”
Madam Mia frowned as she remarked, “Of course, I am being serious. You caused your brother to be divorced and made our entire family become the butt-end of a joke. Not to forget that your grandfather will be returning in a week!”
“I shiver just thinking about what will happen then. And I haven’t forgotten that the last time, I trusted you, I caught you in the apartment of that beggar.”
“Regal is not a beggar, mom!” Glynn exclaimed. Even though Regal had hurt her, Glynn couldn’t bear to listen to her mother call Regal upsetting names.
Madam Mia scoffed. “Not a beggar? If he is not a beggar, why was he living in that dump? If he is not a beggar, where is his car? His cards and his mansion!”
“Glyndon, I have raised you as the princess of the Nelson family. Even the shoes that you wear are more expensive than the apartment that he lives in,” Madam Mia sneered with a cold glint in her eyes. “I would have let that man off if he was half of the man you made him out to be. However, look at what he had done. Just because you refused to help him, he left you and went to Lawson’s daughter.”
“I refuse to let my daughter cling to a man like him!”
Glynn bit her lower lips. She knew that regardless of what she said about Regal, her mother’s impression of him wouldn’t change. She closed her eyes and exhaled heavily. “I know, Mom. You don’t need to tell me this again and again, I am really going to Elaine’s.”
“Then what is the problem with calling her unless you are lying to me,” Madam Mia no longer trusted her daughter blindly. She would rather not feel the embarrassment of that night, where she caught her daughter who deserved the best, with a man who wore clothes that were cheaper than the rags in her house.
“Mom, do you not trust me!” Glynn asked angrily. Her fingers trembled as she clenched them tightly.
“Will you trust yourself if you were me?” Madam Mia asked with a light curl of her lips.
Glynn stared at her mother who stared right back at her. Two seconds later, Glynn broke the gaze and snapped, “Fine! If this what you want then, I will call her.” She spoke with an enraged expression and called Elaine.
The call went through and Elaine picked up the call after the third ring.
“Glynn? Are you outside my house? Shall I send my butler to invite you?” Elaine asked from the other side.
Before Glynn could say anything, Madam Mia snatched her phone and simpered, “Elaine, how are you, my dear? I hope that Mrs Amos is doing alright. I heard that she fell in the garden and ended up twisting her foot. Did she recover?”
Elaine answered from the other side of the phone,” My mother has gotten better, Mrs Nelson. Thank you for asking.” Though she was confused by the turns of the events, Elaine still answered politely.
Madam Mia smiled. She touched the side of her cheek and tucked the strand of hair behind her ear. She then went to the point and pretended to act dubious while clearing her doubts, “I am glad to know that. I got this new wine that I was going to gift your mother. However, Mrs Amos twisted her foot and I couldn’t send it. Glynn just told me that she is coming to your house for a project, shall I send the wine with her?”
“Sure, Mrs Nelson. That will be kind of you,” Elaine furrowed her brows in her room. Was there a need to make a fuss for a small bottle of wine? Mrs Nelson could have sent it without asking.
When Madam Mia heard Elaine’s answer, she breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed like Glynn was telling the truth, she was truly going out to get her project done.
“Oh there is no need for you to be so polite,” Mrs Nelson said with a simpering, soft smile. “I will send the wine with Glynn, tell your mother that I am missing her. We need to arrange another tea party, I truly adore her quirky ideas.”
Elaine smiled and agreed.
Once the call ended, Glynn snatched her phone from her mother.
“Are you happy now? Satisfied?” Glynn snapped. She felt humiliated by the actions of her mother. She was eighteen and not eight, yet her mother was calling her friends to confirm.
Madam Mia opened her mouth to speak, but before she could say anything, Glynn threw her head back with an exasperated expression.
“Gosh Mom, you are embarrassing!” Glynn turned on her feet and walked back to the staircase, she would tell Elaine that something came up, but there was no way she was leaving the house now.
Not after getting humiliated.
Seeing her turn and head back to her room, Madam Mia was stunned.
“Where are you going? And what did you mean by calling me embarrassing?” Madam Mia was hot on Glynn’s tail. She remarked, “I am just looking after my daughter and protecting her from scum. That is embarrassing?”
Glynn did not answer. She headed to her room and closed the door with a bang.

The loud bang made Madam Mia flinch. Her eyelashes fluttered, and she stared at the closed door before turning to look at Harrison. “Am I embarrassing, Harrison?”
Harrison blinked his eyes innocently. Inwardly he was shedding tears of regret. He just wanted to earn a living, why was it so hard?
