Chapter 154: The knots of heart
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
The sound of punches and kicks echoed in the gym. Jeremy pushed open the door and took a glance at Noah, who was now shirtless and was punching the sandbag hanging by the ceiling.
Sweat dripped down Noah’s bronze skin as he raised his left leg and kicked the sandbag, tearing the cloth in one sweep and causing the sand to flow down on the floor.
“That was one strong kick,” Jeremy praised with claps. He strode inside the gym where the scent of hyacinth and sweat were mingling together. His eyes fell on the sand that was trickling down the sandbag and Jeremy winced, “It’s too bad that you almost ruined a good punching bag. I remember this was from Flover, right?”
Noah panted as he took off the gloves from his hands. “What are you doing here, uncle?” He asked while walking over to the bench where he threw the gloves and picked up a towel to wipe his sweat.
“Your mother is distressed, Noah,” Jeremy said with his hands behind his back. He took a look around the gym and realized that the sandbag received the least bit of damage. The entire set of equipment in their personal gym seemed to have been battered down by ten years.
Jeremy did not mention these things. Instead, he turned to look at Noah and continued, “She seems upset, Noah. I believe that she is not settling well with the changes around her and is having a hard time. You should speak with her.”
“I got it,” Noah answered curtly. He then walked over to the small refrigerator in the gym and pulled out a can of energy drink before popping its lid and bringing it to his lips.
Noticing something off about Noah, Jeremy walked over to where Noah was standing. He asked, “Is something the matter? You seem upset.”
“I am not upset,” Noah paused in his actions as he replied. His voice was calm with barely any tinge of anger. However, Jeremy had watched Noah grow up in front of him.
He knew that there was something wrong with his nephew. Jeremy sighed, before saying, “Noah, I have always told you not to keep your feelings to yourself. No matter what, you should rely on your family a little, there is no shame in showing your emotions, in fact, it is better than suppressing them.”
Ever since Noah was a child, Mia had placed him on the pedestal of being the perfect heir. He wasn’t allowed to cry, nor was he allowed to make a stubborn demand like other children. Mia whose family background was not as good as his brother, pushed all her beliefs and desires on Noah who was only a child.
It was as if she wanted to make up for the lack of support from her family by raising an heir better than the rest.
His mother, Madam Nelson used to sneak Noah out of the house and allowed him a few seconds to live his life like a child, but it changed after she met with an accident and died.
If anything, that incident only made Noah even more closed off.
Noah did not say anything. He threw the can in the trash can at the corner of the gym and walked over to the bench where he sat down. The memories of what happened at the port suddenly came rushing into his head and he couldn’t help but say, “What’s the point of having feelings when no one is going to understand me?”
He breathed heavily, and after a short pause stated, “Is it wrong for me to stop her when she is doing something wrong?”
“Stop whom?” Jeremy furrowed his brows as he couldn’t understand what Noah was saying. Stop her? Was he talking about Ariel? No, he wouldn’t have looked so distraught if it was Ariel. More importantly, Ariel would never do anything wrong in his nephew’s eyes ——
Then, was he talking about Ariana?
Jeremy suddenly felt like troubled. He was obviously his uncle, why did his nephew treat him like a love guru? He was too old for such a thing.
Though Jeremy was upset, he was also curious to know what Ariana did wrong. He questioned, “And what did she do wrong ?”
Since he had already listened to half of the grievances of his nephew. He might as well listen to the rest of it.
“She sold herself to Nicolai De Luca,” Noah gritted his teeth when he remembered how Ari had stood up for that man even when he asked her not to and come back to him.
“WHAT?”
“Ariana, she——”
“I did not mean ‘what’s in the context of believing your words, Noah,” Jeremy stopped his nephew. “I said it in the context of what made you believe that Ariana would do something like that? She might be a bit naive but rough around the edges, but she is not the kind of woman who would sell her body in exchange for money.”
His expression turned sombre and Jeremy pressed, “I believe that Ariana has too much pride to do something so shameful as that.”
“Does she? I obviously told her that I would pay the debt for her. But she refuses to take my help. Instead, she is willing to stay next to Nicolai,” Noah stood up as he hurled the water bottle that he had picked up onto the floor. “Like Nicolai will keep her by his side, that man is known for changing women at a pace that even Ryan cannot match with him. Even the clothes in my wardrobe cannot match up to the count of the women with whom Nicolai had slept. And yet, she wants to trust that man.”

‘I have more than my body to offer!’
‘Just because the woman you adore doesn’t have anything besides her body to offer, doesn’t mean that I am the same.’
Noah’s heart surged with fury at the thought that Ari had dragged Ariel through the mud along with her. He curled his lips and snarled angrily, “She insists that she can offer Nicolai something besides her body. But uncle, does that woman even have something else to offer?”
