Chapter 156: Sickening scent
*-*-*-*-*-*-*—*-*-*
It was a bouquet of hyacinths. Ariana loved this scent ever since she was a child. However, now, as she stared at the bouquet in front of her, Ari couldn’t smile or even like the scent that was wafting over to her. The reason was obvious,
This bouquet was left behind by someone unknown. A gift from a stranger was not something that Ariana would smile at.
Not to mention the doorbell rang just a few seconds ago but no one was standing outside. Ari did not need to think twice to know that the person who left this bouquet did not want to be seen by her.
Ariana ignored the hyacinths and walked around them. She peered through the balcony and looked at the car that was driving away, but the car had tinted windows and no number plate, which only caused Ari to become even more nervous.
‘Who dropped these flowers at my door? And why?’ Ari furrowed her brows as she looked at the car that was driving away. She couldn’t get a single clue about the identity of the person who had left this bouquet behind.
“Woof!” Timmy, who stood behind Ariana, barked as he nudged the bouquet.
“Don’t touch that thing, Tim!” Ari hurriedly pulled Timmy away from the bouquet. They did not know who left this bouquet behind, what if there was something weird about it? She had heard about an incident where a man sent his ex-girlfriend a bouquet that was laced with poison, nearly causing that woman to lose her life.
‘Noah wouldn’t do such a thing, but I wouldn’t put it past Madam Nelson and Glynn,’ those two women were capable of doing anything as far as Ari was aware.
“Woof…” Timmy nudged the bouquet with his head and a small card fell from the basket. Because Ari did not take a good look at the bouquet earlier, she did not see the card. Now that it had rolled out of the basket, her eyes flickered, and she picked up the card lying on the ground.
With a careful glance, she opened the white card that had golden flowers and leaves printed on it. However, the second her gaze fell on the words inside the card, Ari sucked in a breath and dropped the card on the ground.
“Wh…what nonsense is this?”
Inside the card, only a few words were written, but they were enough to make Ariana’s heart turn cold.
‘I am watching you,’ what did the person mean by writing such a letter?
Cold sweat lined Ari’s forehead as she stared at the white card.
“What should I do?” She muttered helplessly. She did not have anyone who would help her. Danny? She did not want to trouble him too much. Even though Jace did not say anything to her, Ari knew that Danny was having a hard time in his law firm because of Noah.
That man was taking out his anger on Danny instead of Glynn!
Since Danny was out of the question——
Ari blinked her eyes as she raised her head and looked at the moon shining over her head, in the sky. “I have no one,” Ari muttered under her breath. That was indeed true, if she were to leave Danny out, she had no one on whom she could rely.
Without Danny, who else would care about her?
A sudden pang of loneliness struck her heart, however, Ari soon shook it off. This was not the time to care about such things, she walked inside the apartment where she was living and rummaged in the kitchen before taking out the trash bag, inside the cabinet.
She then coaxed Timmy to come inside the house before locking the bedroom door. She didn’t want Timmy to be harmed in case someone came inside the apartment when she was gone.
Once she was done, Ari walked out of the apartment and then threw the hyacinth bouquet in the trash bag. She strode towards the elevator before pressing the button to the first floor.
When she was heading out of the apartment building, she crossed paths with Arabella, who was with another woman and was taking a stroll. Ari looked in the other direction as she didn’t want to speak with Arabella, but the woman noticed her.
Arabella, whose heart was burning with anger because of what happened a few weeks ago, couldn’t help but raise her brows. Her eyes narrowed subtly, and she questioned, “Where are you going at such an hour, Miss Ariana? Don’t tell me, you are going to meet another one of your lovers?” Her words were as mocking as they could have been.
The woman’s words caused Ari to pause and look at her. She blinked her eyes and questioned, “I am sorry?”
“I was talking about whether you are going to another man,” Arabella laughed as if she had said some rather funny joke. “I saw two men coming to look for you earlier this week. Looks like there is a third one also hanging in the back somewhere. How can you manage so many men, Miss Ariana? I can hardly manage my husband.” She chortled at her own poor joke.
“Forgive me, but I have no idea what you are talking about. I don’t know the men, you are talking about and even if I do…they could have been colleagues or friends. We are not in the eighties or the seventies, where just because I spoke with a few men, I will be declared as Harlot,” Ari didn’t wish to entangle with Arabella but since the woman did not wish to let go of her, she might as well throw some punches.
She then offered a polite smile and walked away.
Arabella’s face turned blue and then red. She had tried to condemn Ari for befriending so many men, who came looking for her at odd hours. However, that woman turned around and refuted her for being too narrow-minded.

“What’s going on? Why are you getting in a fight with a woman of her class?” The woman next to Arabella remarked. “Who is that woman? You seem to be quite bothered by her.”
