Chapter 159: Flat for Flat
“I only have a good thirty minutes to arrive at the hospital!” Ari quickly pushed the blanket away and turned the air conditioner off. She then picked up her things from the wardrobe and rushed out of the room. “Why didn’t I wake up sooner?! Why did such a thing have to happen a day before I had to start working in the hospital?”
Today was her first day at the hospital, and if she was late on the first day, what would Aiden think of her? This opportunity was given to her by Nicolai, and she did not get it on her own, wouldn’t he think that she was treating this chance lightly?
She rushed to the bathing room for a quick shower. She did not have the opportunity to care about anything else at the moment.
Fortunately, Leila gave her a scooter and she could use it to drive to the hospital or else Ari was certain that she would be late on her first day.
When it was time to leave, Ari rushed out of the house after filling the machine with dog food and water. She usually cooked meals for Timmy but since she was not at home today, she couldn’t cook anything for her beloved baby.
“I promise that I will cook something good for you, Tim,” Ari ruffled Timmy’s fur and then turned to open the door.
Timmy whined behind her but didn’t follow. He brushed his head against Ari’s legs and then sat down on the entrance, like a loyal guard dog who would wait for her to return. Seeing him like this, Ari was so heartbroken that she almost wanted to give up her new job. But when she thought about the debt piling on her head and the money in her account running out, she could only harden her heart and leave.
“I will be back soon, Timmy,” Ari said to the whining Timmy.
Leaving her home, Ari quickly made her way out of the house. She was about to look for her scooter when she noticed that the two tires of the scooter were flat. Clearly, they had air inside of them last night, but now they were flat, Ari did not have to think twice that someone had targeted her and purposely flattened her tyres.
Her eyes moved and she raised her head. On the third floor, she saw Arabella looking at her but when she saw Ari look up, she turned her gaze away.
Noticing this, Ari smiled. She walked over to the car which belonged to Arabella and crouched down.
“Hey, what are you doing?” Arabella, who wanted to enjoy the sight of Ari, being troubled in the morning, was stunned when she saw that Ari was walking over to her car.
Ari didn’t answer but the sound of air being released from the tires of her car echoed in Arabella’s ears.
“You bitch! What is the meaning of this?” At first, Arabella wanted to rush down and fight with Ari, but she stopped after thinking about it carefully. She had gotten her manicure done yesterday, if she fought with Ari, her hundred-dollar manicure would be ruined.
“I did what you did to me,” Ari remarked as she wiped her hands and turned to walk away. “The next time, if I see any flattened tyre, I won’t care who did it! It will be you who will suffer!” She whipped her head out front with a flick of her hair and sashayed away.
Ari did not wish to fight with Arabella, but that didn’t mean that she feared this woman. Ari had no idea what she did that offended Arabella. However, she hadn’t done anything to be targeted like such.
Since, maintaining a friendly relationship with Arabella on the surface, wasn’t possible——She might as well return the favour.
Watching Ari leave, Arabella was furious. She stomped her heels on the floor and turned to walk inside her apartment. Arabella had expected that Ari would suffer in silence or quarrel with her. She didn’t expect that Ari would retaliate against her by making her suffer the same loss that she made Ari suffer.
Arabella wished she could confront Ari, but she was the one who had asked the security guard to turn the surveillance off last night.
“That sly bitch! Ugh!” Arabella threw a tantrum like a child as she shook her entire body and stomped.
Ari on the other hand, walked out of the apartment building. She was headed to the taxi stand, but then her gaze fell on the black car that was conspicuously standing in front of the gates.
No sooner did she step out of the gates, the window at the passenger seat, slid down.
“Pallas, are you going somewhere?” Nicolai greeted her with that impish grin on his face. Today he was dressed in a mesh top with a cropped jacket and black jeans. Even though he was dressed in clothes, Ari felt like the man was naked. Every inch of fabric clung to his skin, leaving little to nothing to imagine.
“I am going to work, Mister De Luca. You should head over to your company as well,” Ari answered. She had a feeling why Nicolai had parked his car in front of her apartment building, but she pretended to be unaware.
She then turned on her feet and walked away, but as soon as she turned around, Ari heard the sound of a car honking, and she turned her head around.
The car that was parked a few feet behind her was now next to her, with Nicolai leaning his elbow on the window of the car. He seemed amused as he said, “Eh? What’s the matter, Pallas? You can continue walking. The sight of your back is rather impressive.” His eyes were filled with teasing glint as he said those words.
Blood rushed to Ari’s cheeks as she asked, “Mister De Luca, may I help you?” Why was this man bothering her in the morning?
