Chapter 166: Threat wrapped in a warning
“Yes,” Ari agreed without any hesitation. She knew that it would be too much for her to ask Aiden to teach her from scratch.
He didn’t have the time to care for her nor did she have the privilege to learn from the start.
Ari knew that if she wanted to escape from the grasp of her family completely then she needed to stand up on her feet as soon as possible.
‘Unless I repay the debt and make a name …I will never be able to live my life for myself,’ thought Ari. She was tired of living for others and under the commands of others.
“Very well,” when Aiden noticed that she had no qualms about treating beggars and his impression of Ari turned for the better.
Earlier he thought that the woman was only trying to play hard to get and was using his foolish cousin to her advantage, but now Aiden seemed to have realized that Ari genuinely wanted to continue with her medical practice.
He stood up from his chair and said to Ari, “Follow me. I will take you to the public ward.” He glanced at Ari and felt a bit bad for giving her such an assignment on her first day, however ——-
‘I need to make sure that she will not quit after suffering just a little,’ it wasn’t that Ari was his first student.
A few months ago, a young woman who graduated from a prestigious college was sent to him, under her father’s order.
However, that woman only stayed for three days and left in tears.
‘If she is going to quit eventually anyway, the best thing I can do for her is to help her make that decision sooner,’ thought Aiden.
For Aiden, Ari was like a blooming flower. One that would look beautiful in a protective case, a flower like her wouldn’t look good being covered with blood.
The two of them stepped out of the office that belonged to Aiden. As the two of them walked past the corridor that was bustling with nurses and doctors along with a few patients, a few doctors turned to look at the two of them.
“Doctor Aiden, who is this young woman?” A young doctor who was discussing something with a male nurse turned to look at Aiden.
His eyes showed appreciation when he glanced at Ari and without waiting for Aiden to introduce him to Ari, he stretched out his hand to the woman behind Aiden, “I am Cole Verlice, it’s a pleasure to meet you, gorgeous.”
Ari blinked her eyes. She glanced at Aiden not knowing what to say, after a slight hesitation, she took Cole’s hand in hers and greeted him, “Nice to meet you too, Doctor Cole. I am Ariana Harlow, the new apprentice of Doctor Aiden.”
Her greeting was polite unlike Cole’s frivolous one.
Aiden furrowed his brows and stepped in between the two. He brushed his bangs off his forehead and said to Cole, “Quit with your flirting, Verlice. She is my student and I will appreciate it if you keep your hands off her.”
“Is that a threat or a casual reminder?” Cole asked with an innocent expression on his face.
“It’s a reminder for now,” replied Aiden. “Of course, if I hear that you are pestering my student, it will turn into a threat real quick.”
Ari glanced at Aiden and turned to look at Cole who was still smiling. She then heard Cole say, “What a pity. A beautiful rose like her has a bad-tempered bee as a guard.”
…?
Hearing his flirtatious words Ari was speechless. She did not know how to deal with this man without offending him.
“Cole,” Aiden narrowed his eyes and spoke in a warning tone causing the man to raise his hands in the air.
“Come on, I was just joking. Why are you getting so tetchy?” Cole retorted in an amused tone. “You know that I don’t play around with my colleagues.” Though he said that, Aiden did not seem to believe him.
However, he did not engage in a quarrel with Cole. He turned to look at Ari and said, “Come with me.”
Ari nodded. She followed Aiden when he sidestepped and walked past Cole. But as she continued to walk, Ari sensed someone looking at her. She turned to look behind her and saw Cole looking at her with a gaze that was neither intense nor cold.
When he saw her look at him, he raised his hand and waved at her.
Ari did not respond and turned to look in the front.
Once the two of them were gone, the smile on Cole’s lip fell. He turned to look at his friend and said, “Find out, who that woman is and how did she get the slot of Aiden’s apprentice.”

“I got it,” said his friend with an amused expression. “If I did not know better, I would have thought that you have a crush on Aiden.”
Cole turned his head and glared at the man who was teasing him. He said, “Don’t make foolish jokes, Kenneth.”
There was a reason why he was keeping such a close eye on Aiden. If not for that reason, why would he even come to this rotten hospital?
On the other side, Aiden glanced at Ari and said to her, “Don’t get close to Cole, he is a playboy and a flirt. He has slept with half of the nurses, including the old ones.”
“Didn’t he say that he does not play with colleagues?” Ari remarked remembering what that man said just now to her.
A side of Aiden’s lips curled up. He stated, “Cole says that to everyone, following it would be a line about how he cannot stay away from them because they were just that beautiful.”
His eyes moved to Ari walking beside him and he added in a stern voice, “I am warning you because I do not want you to be fooled by that man. By the time he is done with you, there will be nothing left.”
“More than twenty nurses were transferred because of that man.”
“Wouldn’t it be better to transfer him instead of the nurses?” Ari stated casually.
