Chapter 167: First lesson
“It will indeed be better for him to transfer, but he is the son of one of the ministers of the city,” Aiden explained to her. “I don’t think there is anyone in the council of the hospital who can transfer the son of a minister when he doesn’t want to leave.”
Ari pursed her lips when she heard Aiden’s words. She couldn’t help but remark, “Is every rich man rotten?” She was talking about Cole as well as Noah. Hearing her complaint, Aiden raised a brow.
“I don’t know about that, but we do not need to care about these rotten apples as long as you keep yourself safe from them,” Aiden said with a light smile. He didn’t want his cousin holding a hunt at his hospital.
Not to mention the other person was Cole. Aiden’s eyes darkened when he thought about that man and his less-than-pleasing intentions.
“Mm hm,” Ari nodded not paying attention to Aiden’s expression.
The two of them arrived at the public ward after turning around and walking past another corridor.
“Good morning, doctor Aiden,” the male nurse in charge of the public ward greeted Aiden. He was a good-looking, cheerful man with light-brown hair and eyes. His hair was neatly combed, and he was wearing a light blue nurse uniform.
“Good morning, Kyle,” Aiden flashed a professional smile at Kyle. He then asked, “How are the patients doing today?”
Upon hearing his question, Kyle shook his head with a sigh. “Not that good,” he replied. “Miss Atkinson is complaining about her foot, she says that it’s stinging and there is also the matter of her bed sores, but there is nothing that we can do about it. None of the doctors are willing to take on the responsibility of doing surgeries on these vagrants.”
“There is also Mister Ledger, his condition is even worse than Miss Atkinson’s. His bedsores are giving him a tough time, and he can hardly sleep,” Kyle relayed what going on to Aiden.
He then turned to look at Ari before subtly adding in a low voice, “I did try to reach out to Doctor Kingsley and Doctor Beckett. Both of them told me that they are busy, but I know for a fact that they do not wish to waste their time and energy on these vagrants as they wouldn’t be paid.”
“The funding of the public ward comes from the affluent families of the Lonest city, but the doctors are not paid for performing the surgeries. Thus, I couldn’t convince anyone.”
As for Aiden, he did not relay the seriousness of the matter because Aiden was busy with continuous surgeries this week.
“Understood,” Aiden nodded, he turned to look at Ari and then glanced at Kyle before saying, “Bring a set of surgery equipment. I will treat Mrs Atkinson, and she will deal with Mister Ledger’s bedsores.”
Kyle took another look at Ari before nodding.
The man walked past Ari while Aiden walked inside the public ward. As soon as they stepped inside the ward, a very pungent smell came wafting over to them.
Ari scrunched up her brows ever so slightly but then returned to normal. She knew that the reason Aiden brought her here, wasn’t only because he wanted her to refine her skills by polishing it on these people.
But also because he wanted to test her.
‘I will prove myself regardless of what and get my certificate as soon as possible,’ Ari thought with determination flashing in her eyes.
“No one is willing to pay attention to this ward,” stated Aiden while walking towards an old woman who was covered in grime. Because her foot was mangled in an accident, she could no longer walk. With no one taking care of her, she had turned into a dirty old woman with a layer of dust coating her skin.
Aiden walked over to the old woman and sat down on the stool next to her bed. He asked in a jovial voice, “Mrs. Atkinson, how are you doing? I heard from Kyle that your foot is giving you trouble?”
“Doctor Aiden,” Mrs Atkinson breathed as she turned to look at them, her gaze moved away from the window from where she was looking at the outside world. “Can you please help me? My foot is itching a lot, and it hurts.”
“Does the pain come and go? Or is your foot getting numb and throbbing in between the spasms of pain?” Aiden asked Mrs Atkinson.
“It does become numb once in a while, doctor Aiden. Is it serious?” Mrs Atkinson asked with a worried look on her face.
She was a widow and had no money, if she had even a bit of money, she would have opted for surgery on the day of the accident.
“It is indeed serious but don’t worry. I am here to perform surgery on you since it’s my rare day off,” Aiden joked to lighten the mood.
Just then, the door of the ward was pushed open and Kyle returned with surgical gloves, tongs, scissors and a good deal of other equipment. All of them were properly sanitized.
Aiden stood up from the stool and then said to Kyle, “Go and prepare the surgery room and have someone wheel Mrs Atkinson inside.”
He then turned to look at Ari and said to her, “Are you ready?”
Ari thought of her discomfort at the sight of blood but still nodded. She had come this far, she couldn’t turn back now.

“I am ready, Doctor Aiden,” she said to the man who nodded and turned to look at Kyle before giving a few more instructions.
The public ward had a surgery room right next to it, and it was connected to the ward as none of the patients could move.
It didn’t take long for Kyle to arrange for someone to wheel Mrs Atkinson inside the surgery room and arrange everything.
Ari watched Aiden raise his hands and Kyle helped him wear the surgical gloves and mask. The man did the same to her and as the large surgical lighthead was turned on, Ari clenched her fingers.
It was now or never.
