Chapter 169: The Diner of Doctors
“You are all done, sir,” said Ari as she placed the gauge on Mister Ledger’s wound to stop the bleeding.
Mister Ledger didn’t feel much difference as his lower body was numb, but he did feel much better. Maybe it was a psychological effect, but the man’s lips curled in a smile, and he nodded, “I feel much better, Doctor.”
Ari’s heart fluttered when she heard Mister Ledger call her, ‘Doctor’. It made her heart swell with pride, in fact, she was even happier than the day when she got married to Noah.
“Please try to keep the wounds on your back clean. Change the bandages every three hours and don’t let water affect your wounds. In case you feel uncomfortable, you should tell the nurses or the doctors, I will check up on you at once,” Ari gave a list of instructions to Mister Ledger who was smiling and nodding at every word of hers.
“I will. Thank you so much,” Mister Ledger gratefully said with a smile on his face.
Once Mister Ledger was wheeled out of the room, Aiden turned to look at Ari with a subtle look of confusion.
Earlier he expected that Ari was one of those fussy rich women, and she would definitely gag and throw up at the sight of level three bed sore.
However, not only did she not throw up, she did not even frown and cleaned the bed sores immaculately.
“You have done an impressive job, Miss Ari,” praised Aiden. He walked over to where Ari was standing and then stated, “We will continue with the treatment of the patients in the public ward, I will guide you from the side, and you will be the one performing the surgery. Is this alright with you?” Even though he pretended to ask Ari if she refused, then he would most probably ignore her.
“Oh, I am alright with it, but there is something that I wanted to ask, Doctor Aiden,” Ari was quick to agree, but there was something that she wanted to say to Aiden.
Aiden arched a brow, he thought that Ari was trying to talk her way out of the situation, but he still nodded. He wanted to hear what she wanted to say before announcing her execution.
“Doctor Aiden, I noticed that the public ward is not very clean. From the looks of it, the nurses and staff are ignoring the patients because they are vagrants and cannot pay the bills. If you permit me, then I would like to have someone clean the ward,” stated Ari, her words surprising Aiden.
Aiden blinked his eyes and slowly asked, “And you want to clean the ward because?”
“Isn’t it obvious? Even though a doctor’s surgical skills matter the most in saving the life of a person. The recuperation also matters,” stated Ari with a subtle furrow of her brows. “The hospital only has one ward for these people, which means that even if we perform surgery on them, except for one or two patients, the rest of them have to stay in the public ward.”
“The walls are grimy and even though the bedsheets and pillows seem clean, I can see that they haven’t been changed for a week when they should be changed every day. Since that is the case I need your permission and order to make the nurses and staff clean the ward.”
Ari understood that she was still new at the hospital, even if she wanted to command the nurses and the staff of the hospital, they might not listen to her.
She was neither a certified doctor nor a staff member of the hospital.
When Aiden heard her request, he was stunned, but after a short pause, he nodded.
“Alright, I will have someone clean the ward. You can monitor them while they are working and make sure that they do not injure or hurt anyone,” the patients of the public ward were all poor and homeless, and no one cared for them.
If they did, then the ward wouldn’t turn into a pigsty like this.
Aiden knew that if he were to order the nurses and the members of the staff to clean up the ward, they would be upset. There was also a possibility that they would do something that might hurt the patients.
“I understand, Doctor Aiden,” Ari agreed.
Aiden nodded. He was about to say something more when the sound of a bell ringing echoed in the distance, he changed his words and said to Ari, “You should go and eat your lunch. The food in the canteen is decent and if you go there late, I am afraid you will not get anything.”
“Yes,” Ari nodded. She didn’t eat anything for breakfast apart from a slice of bread and was starving.
She immediately took her leave after bidding Aiden goodbye and went to look for the canteen. Ari had seen the canteen on her way to Aiden’s office. So, without getting lost in the hospital, she arrived at the canteen.
However, as soon as she stepped inside the small canteen, she was stunned to see the doctors and nurses rushing to grab a plate of hot meals.
“Come on hurry, what are you waiting for?” A woman who just came to the canteen patted Ari on the shoulder and said to her, “Eat up quickly before you are called for another shift.”
After speaking, the woman did not stay beside Ari and rushed to line up behind the man who was standing in the long line next to the food counter.
Ari snapped out of her daze and followed the woman before coming to a stop at the end of the line.
She looked at the starting point of the line and heard the doctor say, “Aunt Loraine, give me a few more scoops of rice. I just came out of the surgery room after twenty-seven hours… I am starving!”

He wasn’t the only one, there were a few more doctors who requested larger servings.
The doctor, at the start of the line, got his extra servings and Ari saw him eat before he even sat down on the chair.
