Chapter 172: The small calculations of heart

A woman was standing at the entrance of the canteen, in her hands was a delicate lunchbox that she had brought with her to the hospital. Two small locks of her hair were curled in ringlets while the rest of her long hair was tied in a high ponytail.

It fluttered behind her, while the woman clenched her fingers around the handle of the lunch box that she was carrying.

However, her lips were still curled in an elegant smile as if the sight in front of her did not bother her too much, even when it did.

“Good afternoon, Miss Lexie,” a nurse saw the woman dressed in a simple white dress that hugged her slender body. “Are you here for Doctor Cole?” The nurse inquired with a polite tone.

Everyone in the hospital knew that Lexie Campbell, the heiress of the Campbell family, was born with eyes that could not see. It was Doctor Cole who had a good relationship with the Campbell family and found a live donor for Lexie.

Not only that, he even arranged for the surgery and didn’t let anyone else perform the surgery on Lexie, instead he took the responsibility despite the risks involved in the surgery.

Because of this, many people in the hospital came to believe that Doctor Cole had some affection for Lexie, including herself.

So when Lexie saw Cole speaking with another woman, she couldn’t help but feel annoyed.

“Yes, but it seems like he is busy,” replied Lexie with a small smile on her face.

When the nurse looked at Cole, she saw Ari sitting next to him. Her gaze then swiftly moved to Lexie, whose eyes were filled with heartache. This made the nurse worry about her, she said, “Don’t think too much, Miss Campbell. She is the new apprentice of Doctor Aiden and it’s her first day at work. Doctor Cole must be trying to make her relax and comfortable, he does this for every new apprentice.”

“I see,” though annoyed, Lexie pretended to be understanding. She then tilted her face to the side and questioned, “What’s the name of this woman?” Her expression was kind and innocent.

The nurse hesitated, even though she didn’t believe that Lexie had any bad intentions towards Ari, it wasn’t right of her to give Ari’s information to Lexie, without the woman knowing.

The young woman smiled, seeing the hesitation of the nurse. She said, “Do not fret, Mandy. I am just asking because I think that I know this woman, but with her back turned to me, I cannot confirm her identity. I just want to know whether she is my acquaintance or not.”

Hearing her words, Mandy’s mouth opened slightly. She nodded with a small smile and said, “Oh, is that the case? Her name is Ariana Harlow, is she really your acquaintance ?” though Mandy was a bit confused about how Ariana knew Lexie, she still answered Lexie’s question.

“Ariana?” Lexie’s eyes widened slightly, and she blinked her eyes before saying, “So it is really her?”

“You know her?” Mandy was shocked. She didn’t expect someone like Ariana to know Lexie.

Who was Ariana, and who was Lexie? The difference between the two women was like the sky and the ground.

Lexie nodded. She held a sweet smile on her lips. When her eyes fell on Ariana, her brows slightly rose before she turned to the guard and said to her, “Here, can you bring the lunchbox to Doctor Cole in an hour or so? It holds cream of mushroom soup, and if he feels hungry, he can drink it.” And she glanced at Ari before taking her to the front entrance. “Does Glynn know that her sister-in-law is working in the hospital?”

She had heard rumours of Noah and Ariana divorcing, but she also heard her mother telling her that the two of them couldn’t separate because of the shares that were in Old Master Nelson’s hands.

‘I need to confirm the truth,’ Lexie thought with a sly glint in her eyes. “If she is not divorced then I have no problem with her getting along with Cole, but if she is divorced then…” her eyes flashed dangerously as she turned to look at the hospital after climbing down the stairs.

On one hand, Lexie had small calculations in her heart, on the other hand, Madam Nelson was sitting at the Harlow house.

Her chin was tipped up, and her nose was scrunched as she could smell the scent of cheap coffee and beer. For her, this was unacceptable as her house smelled of room fresheners instead of lingering scents. Madam Nelson had never smelled such a disgusting scent before.

‘If father wasn’t coming home this weekend, I wouldn’t have come here,’ Madam Nelson thought to herself while staring at Madam Harlow, who was looking at the expensive gifts brought by Madam Nelson.

Madam Nelson noticed how Madam Harlow’s lips went up, but then came back down. The woman was trying her best to stop herself from looking too greedy.

“Madam Harlow,” Madam Mia let Madam Harlow enjoy the expensive gifts for a while before speaking, “I hope that you will be able to convince your daughter. I do understand that she is a bit dissatisfied with a few things, but no woman in the Nelson family has ever divorced her husband.”

“Her actions have left a terrible impression on the reputation of the Nelson family. You need to teach her that there is a limit to her selfishness,” harrumphed Madam Mia.

She certainly did not believe that Ari was willing to divorce her son. For Madam Mia, her son was not only a talented man but was also a very handsome young man.

How could any woman be willing to divorce him?

“I understand, Madam Nelson,” Madam Harlow raised her head and responded in a breathy voice as she retracted her hand from the luxury bag in front of her.

Seeing the greed in her eyes, Madam Mia frowned, but she did not remark on it. Instead, she said, “Then make her understand her status and what she can and cannot do, and have her return to the Nelson manor before the weekend.”

“I am willing to ignore this slight on her part, as I am a generous woman, but I also have a temper,” scoffed Madam Mia rolling her eyes. “However, I have a limit as well. If your daughter doesn’t come back by the weekend, then there is no need for her to return.”
