Chapter 176: The blood of noble and lowly ones
“You seem to be living quite nicely,” remarked Mrs Harlow while looking around the apartment.
She walked inside with her arms crossed in front as she flicked one long finger and skimmed it over the oak cabinet, and her eyes flashed.
Ari did not reply, instead, she walked to the living room and took off her jacket and turned to look at Mrs Harlow.
She questioned, “Are you here to apologize?”
“Apologize?” Mrs Harlow’s voice raised a notch as she turned her head and looked at Ari. With a mocking sneer, she asked, “Why will I apologize?”
“I don’t know. Maybe about dumping your debts on my head? That will be a good start,” Ari shot back, stripping Mrs Harlow’s ability to speak.
The woman stared at her daughter, who was speaking to her as if she had eaten explosives with wide eyes.
“Is this how a daughter should talk to her mother?” Mrs Harlow questioned with an angry voice. “Just a few days and you have lost every bit of manners that I have taught you. Sure enough, this is what happens when people like you are left alone.”
Ari stiffened subtly, but a second later she calmed down. She turned to look at her mother and questioned, “Why are you here?”
“Are you not even going to ask me to sit down?” Mrs Harlow inquired while making her way to the couch and sitting down.
She crossed her hands on the purse that was sitting on her lap and stated, “Your mother came to see you, a cup of tea is fitting, I believe? Or have you ever forgotten that you need to serve tea to your guests?”
Ari stared at the woman and watched her mother look around her apartment as if she were looking for the next valuable thing, she could take away with her.
One of these days, one of the Harlow family members was going to drive her to madness, thought Ari.
“I don’t have tea leaves, as I don’t like drinking tea. Will coffee do?”
Mrs Harlow stopped looking around the apartment and looked up at Ari. To Ari’s annoyance the woman curled her lips and stated, “Of course, unlike your sister who has blood similar to that of a noble, you have blood of those who serve the noble. Even the drink of your liking is liked by those who work under others.”
“No matter what we are sisters, even if you wish to categorize us, it is not going to be simple, “Ari mentioned, ignoring the sting that she felt because of her mother’s remarks. “If you call my blood lowly and despicable then what are you?”
“And I would rather be of low status than drink the blood of others and pretend to be noble.” She was talking about Ariel who used her savings to pay for her fees and accommodations.
Mrs Harlow pursed her lips. She said, “A cup of coffee will do.”
Ari nodded and walked inside the kitchen, she was of course aware that Mrs Harlow came to look for her because of a reason. As eager as Ari was to send Mrs Harlow away, she knew that it wouldn’t be easy.
This is because she had grown under the care of Mrs Harlow and knew that the woman could be stubborn when her interests were at stake.
“Did you come here to tell me how unsightly and lowly my blood is?” Ari asked Mrs Harlow, as she placed the two cups of coffee on the table.
Mrs Harlow was not rushing to answer, she picked up the cup of coffee and took a sip. However, two seconds later she spat it back in the cup.
“What is this? Where is the milk and sugar?” Mrs. Harlow questioned as she looked at the murky dark brown liquid in the cup that looked like a potion.
She set the cup down on the table and wiped her mouth.
“I don’t have the money to buy those things,” Ari calmly replied.
Mrs Harlow raised her head and looked at Ari who was calmly drinking the bitter coffee. Her expression was that of stupefaction.
No matter how bad Ari’s situation was, it shouldn’t be this bad.
“If you are having a hard time, why don’t you go back?” Mrs Harlow spoke up. She sounded like a caring mother who was worried about her daughter.
“Go where?” Ari asked in a subtle voice.
“Back to the Nelsons, of course!” Mrs Harlow exclaimed as if Ari was a fool to even ask such a question. “Ari, forgive me for saying this, but you are making a mountain out of a molehill.”

“Yes, Noah kissed Ariel, but what is the big deal? It’s a drunken mistake, your position in the Nelson family hasn’t been shaken up.”
“Now look at yourself, look at the condition you are living in. While I admit that some blame lies with us too, if you were still married to Noah, this wouldn’t have happened.”
Ari closed her eyes. She didn’t know what she was even expecting from Mrs Harlow.
She said to her mother, “If Ariel was the one who was married to Noah, and I was the one who kissed him. Would you have said the same thing, Mom?”
“Of course——”
“Lies,” Ari raised her head and looked at Mrs Harlow as she placed down her coffee cup on the table.
Having drank two cups of coffee, Ari felt sleepiness leaving her body. Her mind was clearer than ever as she stated, “If it were me instead of Ariel, then you would have buried me alive or at least done something close to it.”
“What are you trying to say?” Mrs Harlow asked with a subtle furrow of her perfectly shaped brows.
“Do I need to spell it out for your mother?” Ari chuckled as she crossed her legs and stated, “You are not here because you care for me, you are here because you want something, right?”
“Was it Mrs Nelson who sent you here? Are you worried about losing those little gifts she sent you?”
