Chapter 185: An abrupt visit
“As per the reports, last night two notorious gangs ended up engaging in a violent gunfight,” before Mrs Nelson could speak, the anchor on the television screen started relaying the breaking news in an excited voice.
The beautiful news anchor stood on the side of the screen while on top of her head.
In a small box, the video of bullets flying around as well as the marks left behind on the walls and the cars, was being played.
“According to the police, this gang war took place after the Serpents were found trespassing the territory of the Phantoms,” said the news anchor.
Mrs Nelson who did not expect to hear such a thing in the morning, trembled. The toast in her hand almost fell on the floor and her complexion turned paper white.
The Serpents came to the Lonest City last night? How could this be possible? As far as she knew, the Serpents were not allowed to enter the Lonest City as this was the territory of the Phantoms.
So, how did the Serpents enter the city last night?
‘And why? Did they come looking for me?’ Mrs Nelson thought fearfully. Mrs Nelson wouldn’t be worried if she didn’t know about the cruelty of the Serpents.
Neither Noah nor Glynn paid any attention to the peculiarity of their mother.
“They are really lawless,” Glynn snorted as she took a sip of her orange juice. “Because of the lack of seriousness by the police and the officials, the Phantoms really think that the entire city belongs to them. Look at them, they even got entangled in a gunfight. What if someone innocent was caught in between?”
“Barbarian, the entire lot of them,” Noah muttered as he turned his attention from the screen and took a bite of his bacon. “What else can you expect from them other than such gruesome violence?” He was slightly upset over the fact that Nicolai was able to escape from the trap that he set for him.
Mrs Nelson’s thoughts broke, and she agreed with her children to mask the small mistake that she made just now. She remarked, “You are right. People like them only know how to make trouble for us commoners.”
She then turned to look at Noah and said to him, “Your grandfather will be arriving tomorrow. Make sure that you arrive at the airport in time to receive the old master. Now that he is getting older, his temper has turned more and more childish, I am afraid he will blame you if the Old Master doesn’t see you.”
“I got it,” Noah wiped his thin lips with the napkin resting on his lap and stood up. “I have an important meeting today, Mom. So I will be taking my leave now.”
“Okay, Okay as long as you remember to receive your grandfather,” Mrs Nelson said to Noah who nodded. He pushed his chair behind him and then walked past the dining table before disappearing from the sight of the two women as he climbed down the stairs.
Mrs Nelson finished her toast and avocado salad before pushing her chair as well. She muttered, “I also need to prepare for Mrs Levine’s tea party. I heard from Mrs Solace that many aristocrats will be attending this tea party, I cannot just fall behind the rest.”
with that, she turned on her heels and walked out of the dining room leaving Glynn alone.
“What is the meaning of this?” Glynn, who had been ignored as if the questions that she had asked didn’t matter, stared at her mother’s back.
She was simply speechless.
Glynn shook her head and then continued to eat her breakfast. Her eyes were fixated on the screen of the television. She was listening to the news so attentively because she wanted to see if that bastard who twisted and nearly broke her arm was captured or not.
However, when she heard that no arrest had been made because of the lack of evidence, Glynn clicked her tongue and turned the television off.
A maid entered the dining room, her head was lowered as she informed Glynn, “Miss Glynn, the guards called. Miss Lexie is here, and she is asking to see you, shall I give her permission to enter or ask her to leave?”
Glynn was about to tell the maid to let the woman return, but then she paused and, “Bring her to the dining room, she came so early I don’t know whether she had eaten or not.”
“Yes, miss,” the maid obliged and then walked out of the dining room.
It didn’t take long for Lexie to walk inside the dining room. She was dressed in a pastel violet dress that made her look even more frail than she was.
“Lex,” Glynn looked at the woman who was walking toward her and said to her, “How are you doing? Is something the matter? I mean for you to suddenly visit me in the morning.”
Lexie smiled as she walked over to Glynn. She exchanged an airy kiss with Glynn on the side of the face.
“Why? Are you saying that I cannot come to look for you in the morning?” Lexie said in a joking voice. “I still remember that when we were young, I used to come to your house all the time.”
Glynn smiled at her words and then ushered her to sit down. She turned to the maid and asked her to prepare some fruits for Lexie.
She turned to look at Lexie and said to her, “Of course, how can I forget? We used to play together all the time.”

The young woman’s smile turned a tad bit genuine, but then her eyes shifted, and she questioned, “By the way, Glynn… is your brother and that woman really divorced?”
“That woman? Are you talking about Ariana?” Glynn asked dumbly, causing Lexie to almost roll her eyes.
If not her, who else? Did Noah have a harem with multiple wives? What kind of foolish question was that? Lexie thought sarcastically.
