Chapter 186: A Foolish Girl
Lexie’s expression, however, remained calm on the surface. She nodded, “That’s right, I am talking about her. Did she really divorce your brother?”
“What do you mean she divorced my brother?” Glynn rolled her eyes. “We kicked her out of the house as she is from a low background,” she paused and added in a haughty voice, “From the start she was not worthy of my brother, we only arranged everything in the right order.” She harrumphed.
It was upsetting for Glynn to hear that Ariana was the one who divorced her brother.
It was as if her brother were lacking in some manner.
Glynn, who truly respected Noah, couldn’t accept it.
She then turned to look at Lexie and questioned, “But why are you asking about her?” It was a bit surprising that Lexie, being the heiress of the Campbell family and her good friend was actually asking about someone like Ariana.
Lexie offered Glynn a warm smile and answered, “I saw a woman similar to Ariana in the hospital yesterday. It seems like she is training to become a doctor. However, I know that your family doesn’t allow women to work.”
“Especially a job where one has to serve others, So it was a bit surprising for me when I saw that woman in the hospital,” Lexie looked appalled at the thought of serving someone even if it meant saving the life of a person. “But then I recalled the rumours of Noah and her divorce, now that I know that she has left your family, I am a bit relieved. At least now no one would laugh at the Nelson family for not having enough money to raise a woman from a low background as her.”
Lexie laughed as if it were a rather funny joke.
“You saw her at the hospital?” Glynn’s expression was rather complicated. On one hand, she was cheerful at the thought of Ariana working in the hospital, it meant that she would not return to the Nelson family.
But on the other hand, she was also terrified at the thought of Ariana never returning to the mansion. If that woman did not come back then what about the shares that were in the hands of her grandfather?
Lexie replied, “That’s right. I was not feeling alright yesterday, so I went to look for Doctor Cole for a small check-up. It was then that I saw Ariana in the hospital. Looks like she is doing well in that place.”
“Who is doing well?” Mrs Nelson came down the stairs. She then turned to look at Harrison, who was following behind her while noting down everything that she had told him.
She said to him, “And ask Mrs Claire that she should add the smallest diamond brooch on the lapel of my dress. I do not wish to stand out too much, but I cannot be pushed into the background either.”
“Make sure that the brooch is not too big such that it clashes with the host of the tea party. Mrs Levine is fond of people who like to outshine her.”
The last time she heard, Mrs Levine, the woman whose tea party she would be attending, was a woman who knew how to handle the affairs of her husband well. She even stayed calm in the face of many mistresses that her husband kept.
Mrs Nelson was considering sending Ariana to Mrs Levine. That way she would be able to learn how to be a proper matriarch of the Nelson family.
Not that she would be one for long, but it would be better if she learned how to keep her mouth shut if Ariana were to catch Noah and Ariel together in the future.
“I shall do it right away, madam.” Harrison obliged, turning in the direction of the small reception room where the phone used by the servants was kept. While Mrs Nelson turned to look at Lexie and Glynn.
“Good morning, Aunt Mia,” Lexie greeted the woman with a smile on her face. “You looked even more beautiful than the last time I saw you at the party,” she praised Mrs Nelson with a sweet smile on her lips.
“Good morning honey. I think you are looking prettier as well, seems like the doctor taking care of you is doing a good job,” responded Mrs Nelson. She then asked, “I haven’t seen your mother for a long time, is she doing alright? I hope she is doing wonderfully well.”
“She is,” Lexie nodded. “Mom went to Clover City to see Aunt Kaylynn. Turns out that Penny fainted after she returned home, my mom was worried about her and went to take a look at her condition.”
“Is Miss Ashford alright?” Mrs Nelson asked with concern lining on her face.
“She is doing alright,” Lexie did not relay Penny’s heart condition to Mrs Nelson and Glynn.
Mrs Nelson nodded her head as she was in an agreeable mood, she didn’t wish to hear about someone’s sickness. “I hope that you have received the invitation for my father-in-law’s birthday next month?”
“I have, and I am eagerly awaiting this party,” Lexie answered with a smile on her lips.
“Anyway, what were you two talking about just now?” Mrs. Nelson remembered that she had asked a question to Lexie when she came to the dining room just now.
Lexie glanced at Glynn who seemed a bit hesitant to answer and her lips curled in a pure sadistic smile. She turned to look at Mrs Nelson and ‘helped’ Glynn out, “We were talking about Ariana, Aunt Mia. I was telling Glynn that Ariana is doing quite well in the hospital where she is working now.”
Mrs Nelson’s balloon of happiness went pop with those words. The words that Lexie spoke rang loudly in her ears, causing Mrs Nelson to stiffen. She did not move or speak, as if she had turned into a statue.
“What did you say? Who is working in the hospital?”
