Chapter 187: Taking the First Step
Glynn winced when she heard the sharp note in her mother’s questioning voice.
“Ariana Harlow, the woman who was married to Noah,” Lexie answered in a surprised tone. She then turned to look at Glynn, “I was telling Glynn about it just now. It looks like after getting divorced, Miss Ariana is working in the hospital.”
“Who got divorced?” Mrs Nelson’s voice if possible turned even shriller. She absolutely abhorred the idea of anyone knowing that a man from the Nelson family got divorced.
She turned to look at Lexie and questioned sharply, “Who told you that the two of them got divorced? Noah and Ariana had a small quarrel and nothing more. They are currently at odds, of course, it’s all due to that woman being foolish. But the matter is certainly not as serious as having a divorce.”
Mrs Nelson couldn’t accept this divorce and as long as she was not willing to accept it, she would certainly not let others find out.
“Is that the case?” Lexie asked with a frown. She then turned to look at Glynn and stated, “But Glynn——” she trailed off when Glynn shook her head at her.
Mrs Nelson turned to look at Glynn who flinched and lowered her head. Her hands were clasped tightly on her lap while a tremor broke through her body.
“This is a misunderstanding on her part,” Mrs Nelson said with a stern voice. “You know how much Glynn dislikes having Ariana as her sister-in-law. Please do not believe the words of a foolish girl.”
Lexie glanced at Glynn whose entire face was pale after getting scolded by her mother and that too in front of her. However, it brought a delightful smile to Lexie’s face as she suppressed her laughter.
“Oh, is that so? Then I am glad,” Lexie spoke with a sickening sweet smile. “If it is a misunderstanding, then you should go and convince Miss Ariana, Aunt. It’s not good for the daughter-in-law of the Nelson family to be seen working in the hospital.”
“How many people will she serve with her hands if she works in the hospital? It is not good for the reputation of the Nelson family,” Lexie fanned the flames from the side.
“I understand, Lexie. Can you tell me where she is working?” Mrs Nelson asked while suppressing her anger.
She couldn’t believe that Ariana actually went to a hospital to work.
“She is working at the City Hospital,” replied Lexie.
Mrs Nelson nodded and said to Lexie, “Thank you, Lexie. I am sorry that I cannot keep you for lunch, as I have something to do.”
“It’s alright, Auntie,” Lexie said with a warm smile. She was not offended at the thought of being kicked out as Lexie understood that Mrs Nelson was going to punish Glynn for being too chatty.
She stood up from the chair on which she was sitting and said, “I will be taking my leave then. My mother must be waiting for me.”
With that, she turned on her heels and then walked out of the house.
Once she was gone, Mrs Nelson turned to look at Glynn.
“Mom, I——”
“Silence!” Mrs Nelson raised her voice as she looked at Glynn with disappointment etched on every line on her face. “I know that you are simply foolish to the point of being called a moron but do you not know how to understand what you can and cannot say?”
Glynn’s face heated up upon hearing the reprimand of her mother. She knew that her mother was hard on her, but occasionally her words were too unbearable.
“I didn’t say anything wrong mother, just because you refuse to admit that they are divorced doesn’t mean——”
A crisp slap landed on Glynn’s face. The young woman who did not expect that her mother would slap her as such was stunned.
She opened her mouth to say something, but before she could, Mrs Nelson turned to look at the maid who stood on the side of the dining room.
“Take Miss Glynn to the fourth floor and have her locked in the punishment room.”
As soon as the words fell, Glynn’s face paled.
“Mom, please note there, I didn’t commit a mistake to be locked in the attic,” Glynn pleaded with her mother who glanced at her lightly and then looked away as she couldn’t be bothered by Glynn at the moment.
“What are you waiting for? Drag miss to the punishment room,” Mrs Nelson spoke as she turned on her feet before she too left the house leaving behind a screaming Glynn.
On the other side at the psychological department of the hospital, Ariana was sitting in front of a middle-aged man who was done listening to her words.

His lips were tightly pursed while his black light green eyes stared at the documents in front of him.
It was after a very long pause did Doctor Stoll looked up from the papers scattered in front of him.
“Miss Harlow,” he said in a smooth voice. “I hope you realize that you are very late?”
Ariana clenched her fingers on her lap and nodded. She knew it, of course she did. How could she not know it when she could feel and see everything?
Doctor Stoll sighed as he knew that this was nothing new. Sometimes people found it too difficult to accept that they were different from the rest.
“The bad news is that you are too late. However, the good news is that your condition is not too bad. We can still work out something,” Doctor Stoll said to Ari.
“Can you tell me what is wrong with me, Doctor Stoll?” Ariana asked with a light voice.
The man looked up from his small notebook, on which he had noted down everything that Ari told him just now in their one-hour session.
“Do you really want to know? It is not good at all,” Doctor Stoll said to Ari. He was worried that she would not continue with her treatment if he was to tell her the truth. As some people found it hard to believe that there was something wrong with their mental condition.
Ari however pursed her lips for a moment and nodded.
