Chapter 204: Foolish Child
With his tall stature and sharp grey eyes that seemed to peer into the soul of a person, Old Master Nelson appeared as a man who had not an ounce of emotions. But of course, that was until he opened his mouth,
“Noah, did I not ask your mother to send Ari along with you? Why is she not here?” Mister Adrien asked as he looked at his grandson with a reproachful gaze. At the same time, his gaze moved from one end of the passage to another, it was as if he was expecting Ariana to give him a surprise.
Noah could feel his limbs shake under the gaze of his grandfather. Even though Mister Adrien was no longer the same man he was ages ago, Noah knew that just because a knife became blunt it did not mean that it could not cause any harm.
“You must be tired from your journey, Dad, Killian,” Jeremy took a step forward with a smile on his lips when he saw that Noah did not answer Mister Adrien. “I have arranged for refreshments in the car, shall we go? If we keep standing here eventually someone will see us. As for the rest of the matters, we will talk about them at home.”
Mister Adrien glanced at his second son who was flatteringly smiling at him and snorted. He walked past Jeremy without even acknowledging his words.
Jeremy however, despite being ignored did not show any signs of anger on his face. He turned his attention to his elder brother and questioned, “How did the surgery go?”
“It was successful,” answered Killian with a calm voice. “As long as there are no complications that cause Dad’s emotions to go out of control everything will be fine. At least it was supposed to be.” Killian turned to look at Noah who lowered his head with his fists clenched. “Unfortunately, someone failed to keep a straight head on their shoulders leading to a bunch of trouble spiralling out of control.”
“Dad, I——”
“Silence, Noah. You have no idea how disappointed I am in you,” Killian said sharply, his grey eyes that he inherited from his father flashed with displeasure. “All you needed to do was to keep one woman, who was supposed to be your wife, happy. I am embarrassed by the mere thought that you failed in even such a simple thing.”
Killian rugged at the button of his collar before remarking, “But then again, what can I expect from a man who was born a failure.”
“Brother Killian, you are being a tad bit too harsh. I know that he made a mistake——”
“It’s not just a mistake!” Killian hissed as he glared down at his son who had his head lowered. “The Nelsons have hundreds of years of history and not one incident of divorce can be heard or seen. This boy not only let his grandfather down, but he also ruined the pristine clean history that our family had. It will be a humiliation to admit what he did was nothing but a mistake.”
Noah clenched his fingers as he could not help but retort in the same calm manner, “Maybe nothing like this would have happened, if I was allowed to marry the woman I loved.”
“Loved?” Killian looked at his son as if he were looking at a freak. “The men of the Nelson family don’t need such a useless thing. You should have used your head, Noah and thought of the family first before yourself. Now because of your selfishness, it will be us who will suffer.”
“Kill——-”
“What’s going on?” Mister Adrien returned, he was sporting a frown while holding the supporting cane in his hand. “Did you not say that we need to go back home? Then why are you three standing here?”
He sharply swept his gaze at the three men and questioned, “Did something happen?”
“It’s nothing, Dad,” afraid that Killian with his stiff personality would tell the truth to Mister Adrien right at that moment, Jeremy spoke up. “We were just discussing the latest project that Noah received.”
Mister Adrien looked at the three juniors in front of him before nodding. He said, “Let’s go, I am famished. I cannot help but crave a bite of meat pie cooked by my bun bun. I am certain she must have made some for me as she knows I am returning.”
Killian glanced at Noah with a seething expression before turning to smile at his father, “I am sure that Ari must be waiting for you, Dad.”
The two men walked away while leaving Jeremy to follow behind with Noah.
“Don’t take your dad’s words to heart. He is only looking after you as he is concerned,” Jeremy said to Noah who seemed to have gone quiet after receiving a scolding from Killian.
“Yes, I can see how concerned he is,” Noah bit his tongue from losing his temper and saying anything too ugly.
His father had always been like that, even when he was young, Killian Nelson wanted and expected more from Noah.
However, no matter how excellent Noah’s performance had been throughout the years—— compared to the men of the Nelson family, he hadn’t done anything too out of the ordinary.
Which was the cause of his father’s extreme disappointment in him.
“Kill just wants what’s best for you, Noah,” remarked Jeremy upon sensing Noah’s dissatisfaction with his father. “Being with Ariel will not make you the patriarch of the Nelson family, and we cannot forget the things of the past either…” he trailed off before apologizing realizing that he brought up a matter that should have been buried, “I didn’t mean anything rude.”
Noah narrowed his eyes before closing them.
That’s right as the embarrassment and stain on the pristine clean reputation of his father ——what else could he expect?
The two of them returned to the parking lot where they slid inside the car that was waiting for them. Once the two of them settled down, the driver gunned the engine and drove out of the parking lot at a seemingly smooth pace.
