Chapter 206: Choosing one’s battle
“Ariana!”
Ari was on her way to return home, she wanted nothing more than to lie down on the bed with Timmy and tell him what happened throughout the day.
As Ari did not have many friends and most of them had respectful jobs, she didn’t intend to disturb them which left her with no choice but to talk to Timmy.
“Doctor Cole?” She turned on her feet to look at the man who had walked over to where she stood.
“Oh please you can call me Cole when we are outside the hospital,” Cole said with a glittering smile. His pearly white teeth were on display as he stared down at Ariana, while his body subtly leaned towards her.
Ariana took a step away from the man who had appeared out of nowhere and blinked her eyes confused as she did not understand why Cole had come to look for her.
Ignoring the flirtatious attempt that Cole made on her, Ariana questioned, “Is something the matter, Doctor Cole?”
The man shook his head in response to her question. Cole knew that Ariana was stiff like an old nun, but he did not know that she was this difficult to get along with, he just asked her to call him by his name.
“It’s nothing, I would like to thank you for your help during the afternoon. You did a good job calming Millie down,” Cole praised her as he straightened upon noticing the hint of discomfort on Ariana’s face.
He had a plan but in the plan that he had created after much pondering and thinking about all sorts of consequences, Ariana was comfortable with him.
‘I can’t let her get uncomfortable with me,’ Cole smiled as he spread his hand forward and said, “I pondered for the entire afternoon as I couldn’t understand how I could show my gratitude for your timely assistance. I was thinking the same thing just now, but then I saw you and I knew at once what I needed to do.”
“There is no need, what I did wasn’t something——”
“Wings, you like chicken wings right, Ari?” Without listening to what Ariana had to say, Cole interrupted her with a question of his own.
Ariana frowned when she heard the question of the man. Nonetheless, she nodded, “I do like them, why?”
“Because I can see that you are craving them,” replied the man as if it were the answer to Ariana’s question.
“I don’t think——” Ariana’s words hitched as the man leaned closer to her. His hand reached out, and then he brought it over to the back of her ear. Ari thought that he was tucking a lock of her hair but a second later she watched the man pull a chicken wing from behind her ear.
“I think you do,” Cole countered her as he took a bite of the chicken wing that appeared out of thin air.
“How did you do that?” Ari asked as she looked at the chicken wing that was not in Cole’s hand a second ago, but then he was holding on to it.
Cole smiled at her, he leaned closer and whispered in her ear, “If you come to the Wings and Flick, I will tell you.” He winked at her and remarked in a mysterious voice, “A magician never tells his secret.”
Magi — what — fucking —cian?
Nicolai stared at the man who had suddenly popped out of nowhere. Though he stood where he was without showing any signs of confronting or more like throwing the man off the nearest, steepest cliff, he was very much infuriated.
Just like him, Ariana must consider the man to be a cringe because her brows twitched thrice.
“Haha that one more than mine, she must be annoyed by that man to bits,” usually her brows twitched twice when he plucked the pods from her ears.
This indicated that he was in a better position than that man.
Not that he cared.
He didn’t.
There was no way he was going to feel jealous over something like that.
And yet, Nicolai wanted to punch the man in the face until he looked nothing like the dreamy Prince Charming, he resembled at the moment.
How dare this man pop out of nowhere and come in between him and Ariana? Not like they were a thing. Fine, they were not even friends at this moment.
Nicolai watched the man say something more to Ariana before she shook her head. However, the man was not to be outdone either, a second later he said to Ariana, “It’s too late for you to take a taxi, why don’t I drop you off?”

Oooh, look at him acting like a gentleman, Nicolai cooed in his head with his arms crossed and eyes glaring. Disgusting.
He was not even close to being a gentleman, but he was pretending to be one. How did Nicolai know this?
Because he was a playboy, and that man reeked of the same air as him.
Who the fuck was this man? No, cancel that, he didn’t need to know that. Nicolai only needed to find this man’s favorite way to die, and nothing else.
He moved forward to stop this scene because if he didn’t, then Nicolai knew would throw up.
“I——” Ariana was about to refuse the offer that Cole had extended in front of her when sensed a person walking over to where she was standing.
Her expression twisted as she looked away.
‘What was he doing here? Did he hear what Cole said to her? No, why did it even matter?’ Ariana questioned as she clutched the strap of her bag tightly.
“Are you alright, Ari?” Cole asked worriedly as he looked down at Ariana, and so did Nicolai as he looked at the tensed muscles and rigid back of the woman.
She did not look like a woman who was guilty of being caught in the act, instead, she seemed like she was fighting.
What in the world were you fighting now, Pallas?
