Chapter 212: Broke his leg
*********************************************************
“Good afternoon, Doctor Harlow,” Doctor Stoll looked up from the book that he was reading. His eyes swept at the woman who was wearing her workout clothes and remarked with a teasing voice, “I know that we have a session scheduled, but there is no need for you to hurry in such a way.”
Ariana rolled her eyes as she responded, “I have brought a patient for you, Doctor Stoll.’ She stepped aside and Theo, who was hiding behind her, flinched.
He looked at the man who was smiling at him kindly, even though he was a tad bit surprised to see a child in his office.
“Please come inside,” Doctor Stoll said to the two as he took out a lollipop that he took out from the glass jar sitting next to him. He waved it in front of Theo and said, “Will you enjoy playing with Poki Pokes?”
It was a new cartoon show that was getting popular among the children. Doctor Stoll knew about it as his own daughter did not miss a single episode of this show.
“C…Can I?” Theo stepped out of from Ariana’s behind as he looked at Doctor Stoll cautiously.
“Of course, you can,” Doctor Stoll answered without any hesitation, he turned to look at his student who helped him with cases and said to him, “Bring our little guest to the play area with you, Elias. You two can play with the new dolls that were bought just yesterday.”
“Yes,” Elias answered as he took Theo to the small playroom behind the office of Doctor Stoll.
Once the two of them were gone, Doctor Stoll turned to look at Ariana and questioned, “Now, can you tell what happened with the little boy?”
Though Doctor Stoll usually questioned his patients about their own medical records and history, he was sharp enough to see that there was something wrong with the child.
“It’s like this,” Ariana thought about it before answering Doctor Stoll’s question, she tried to explain the matter as clearly and in detail as possible. “I thought that it was better to bring him here in his condition.”
“You did the right thing,” Doctor Stoll nodded after he was done listening to Ariana’s words. He then narrowed his eyes and questioned, “Is there a particular reason, you are paying attention to the child?”
‘He is perspective as always,’ Ariana sighed. She clenched her fingers as she answered, “There is one.”
“I see,” Doctor Stoll glanced at the taut body language of Ariana and nodded. He did not ask her to elaborate any further, as he knew that she was not ready to share her experience with him.
He placed his hands on the top of the table, with his fingers interlocked. “I will see what I can do.”
Ariana nodded, but then she paused and asked, “Will he be fine?”
“He will be fine,” Doctor Stoll answered with a soft sigh. “Children are like clear slates, Doctor Harlow. They do not have the same qualms as adults. Since they do not fear how the world perceives them, it’s easier to work with them.”
He paused and added, “Of course, since the crux of this matter lies with his mother. The recovery of the boy will depend on how his mother deals with the aftermath.”
He raised his head and looked Ariana in the eyes. “Parents, no matter how awful they are, they will always be the world of their children. No matter how many mistakes a parent makes, their children will choose to forgive them. For a child around his age, this is certainly the case.”
Ariana heaved a sigh while pinching the bridge of her nose, she had a feeling that Doctor Stoll said those words for her to hear, but why? However, her thoughts came to a halt when she heard the sound of hurried footsteps.
She slowly raised her head and looked in front of her, three to four nurses were running down the corridor with a panicked look on their faces.
“What’s wrong? Did something happen?” Ariana asked one of the nurses.
“It’s Doctor Aiden,” one of the nurses stopped and answered Ariana. “That woman… the one that arrived at the hospital just now woke up after getting her stomach pumped… And she tried to make a run for it again.”
“She was going to jump off the roof again but was stopped by Doctor Aiden.”
“Doctor Aiden? What happened to her attending physician?” Ariana asked with a frown.
“That’s the thing, the attending physician left to check on another person and this thing happened,” the nurse replied to her.
However, that did not answer Ariana’s question. “Did the woman harm Doctor Aiden?” The panic that the four nurses were showing did seem like something happened.
“Gosh, Doctor Harlow. That woman pushed Doctor Aiden down the stairs as he was trying to stop her.”
When Ariana heard the words of the nurse, her eyes widened.

“You, are you alright?” Ariana rushed inside the infirmary as she looked at Aiden, who was sitting on the bed inside the room. A thick plaster covered his left leg.
“I am fine. They are making a fuss,” Aiden responded with an annoyed sigh. “I only twisted my foot, but they ended up treating me as if I lost my leg. Seriously, it is annoying to even think about it.”
“That could be because you are the star doctor of the hospital,” seeing that the man was fine, Ariana teased him lightly. Just now, when she heard that Aiden was hurt, she was reminded of the words that her mother once said to her,
‘You can never do anything right, Ariana. Even if you try to do something right, you will only cause harm to others. So why don’t you listen to your mother? Your mother will never make a mistake like you did.’
She almost believed that she had caused someone to fall to their deaths again. Fortunately, Aiden was alright.
“Why are you looking at me as if it were you who pushed me down?” Aiden arched a brow and questioned. “Wait, are you really feeling guilty or are you annoyed by the fact that someone stole your idea?”
