Chapter 214: Wake up call
When Nicolai arrived at the main hall, he stopped one of the guards who kept guard at the front door. Though the man was the guard of their family, Nicolai used this man and many others like him to cause chaos in the city as he liked.

“What’s going on?” Nicolai asked as he came to a stop in front of the man. “What’s with this ruckus?”

“Sir,” the man began with a polite voice. “It’s your cousin. He broke his leg while working in the hospital. Now he is currently resting in his room. It seemed quite serious.”

Nicolai narrowed his eyes. “Serious? As in, he is never going to walk again, kind of serious? Or he just needs a few days or weeks to recover, serious?”

A crease appeared on the face of the man. He pushed his head a tad bit forward before answering slowly and tentatively, “I think it’s the latter. He needed someone to support him but apart from that he was joking around as usual.”

“Thank fuck,” Nicolai muttered as he ran his hand through his hair. If Aiden really broke his leg and became disabled, not only would he have to look for a way to keep their house afloat as Nadia was bound to shed tears enough to flood the entire city.

He would also have to tame two wild dogs.

Nicolai had enough work set on his plate but …was this not the opportunity to pummel some people?

But that was not what made him stop. It was the beautiful woman who resembled a fairy who came to bless Aiden at his deathbed. Also known as the ice queen, Ariana.

She was sitting prettily in his house.

Nicolai walked inside, like a predator that had spotted its prey, his pace slow and deliberate like he was prowling. For two seconds the woman looked at him as if she did not understand what he was doing here.

Yeah, that’s what he was good at. Delivering the surprise. He was also a surprise baby for his mother as she did not even understand how he came to the world a month before the set day.

The woman was dressed in her sportswear, which looked so freaking cute that he had no idea how to hide her.

He stopped right against the bed before questioning, “Now, what are you doing in my fucking house? Don’t tell me that a cat lost her way?”

Ariana’s expression was not that of panic but her fingers twitched twice, a clear sign that she was having a hard time calming down.

That was wonderful. At least this woman was now bothered by his presence.

The situation was quite amusing given that Ariana had ignored him like he was a dung beetle last time. He summoned a threatening gaze as he asked in a gruff voice, “Was it her who pushed you off or something?”

“No,” Aiden answered. “I was attacked by a patient in the hospital. Ari just brought me back home as I couldn’t have driven in this condition.”

“You could have called me,” Kayden snapped with a harsh voice. Even though the man was rather cheeky at times, he did not mess up when it came to his family.

“And hear you mock me? I would rather pass.” Aiden rolled his eyes before turning in Nicolai’s direction, “I am fine, and it was Ari who helped me out so be polite Nico.”

“I am polite,” Nicolai snorted while his gaze remained fixated on Ariana, who was basically clawing the carpet with the curling of her toes. “I didn’t think that you were this strong. Did you actually bring my brother back home? Seems like you are stronger than you look, It makes me wonder how much you can take.”

“I will be heading back to the hospital now,” Ariana ignored the words of the man who spoke to her. As the feelings that she had been ignoring were catching up.

“Thank you for your help, Ariana,” Aiden thanked her with a smile as she nodded and walked out of the room.

No, thank you for your services’ brother. Maybe fall a few more times off the stairs and bring Ariana home.

Nicolai watched as the woman walked past him without so much as giving him a glance.

‘Someone’s in trouble for acting like I don’t even exist,’ sneered Nicolai as he turned on his feet and walked after Ariana. Aiden had his mother and brother to take care of him. He didn’t need a hyperactive cousin in the mix. But there was a certain someone who required his presence very much.

As that idiot needed a wake-up call.
