Chapter 218: Dirty blood
Nicolai swung his fists on top of his head before driving them straight on either side of the annoying little thing.
She just had to ruin it. Here he was craving and aching for more of her touch and taste while this woman remained as stubborn as a rock. She was actually going to call him something really rude, wasn’t she?
He glared down at her, and it brought a hint of satisfaction as she stumbled and looked at him with confusion written on her face. The haze in her eyes was gone and replaced with wariness as she eyed him.
“It seems like you seem to have forgotten your place, Miss Harlow,” Nicolai stated in a cold voice as he reached out and then clasped her jaw tightly with his fingers. “I was the one who helped you when you needed but do not forget that I am still your creditor, if you dare to call me any names you shouldn’t, I will fuck your world up. Capice?”
“Since you like to maintain the order so much, then I will see you on the fifteenth. Keep a million dollars prepared for me?” He patted her on the cheek before stating, “Because that’s how I do it with others.”
Then without waiting for her response, he pushed himself off her body. “Now get lost, you fucking hypocrite.”
Though it was Nicolai who asked Ariana to get lost, it was he who shifted the balls of his heels before turning around and leaving the woman alone.
Fuck her the fuck off.
Crush? Infatuation? He was going to burn those very things tonight.
With his feet padding against the lush carpet which was spread all over the marble floor, the muffled sound of footsteps echoed in the long corridor. However, the silence only worsened the state Nicolai was in at the moment.
Silence. Nicolai hated silence as it caused the voices in his head to become even louder.
‘I should have expected something like this from you, Nicolai,’ the harsh voice of his father knocked against his heart as he looked at his tall and mighty-looking father. ‘You being Inez’s son, I was a fool to expect anything from you.’
‘But it’s not my fault. This dumb——’
‘Enough!’ His father screamed at him, his eyes flashing with disgust as he stared down at Nicolai. Those eyes brought such a nauseating feeling in Nicolai’s heart that he staggered and almost fell on his bottom.
‘The fact that you have a barbaric personality is bad enough. How dare you lie! Is this what Inez has been teaching you?’
The man then turned to look at the servants as he ordered them, ‘Take him to his room and there is no need to give him any meals or water. So young, and he is already so cruel, goodness knows with that dirty blood in his veins, he will, sooner or later, turn into a fugitive or a see*ual offender.’
Carlisle Hooke turned to glance at his ten year old son and, without caring about the impact his words would cause on his young son, continued,
‘I thought that I could teach you the ways of being a gentleman. I should have instead expected a snake to shed its poison and befriend me. After all, the blood of a brute can never become anything but a barbarian.’
“Fuck! Shut up!” Nicolai raised his fist and drove it into the wall on his left. So what if he was a fucking barbarian? He was still true to himself than most of these elegant bastards.
At least he would not leave his wife when she was in pain and look for his mistress.

In the hospital,
“Have you been drinking, Miss Campbell?” Ariana placed down the small flashlight that she was holding in her hands and turned to look at Lexie, who was sitting on the stool in front of her.
“Ah, is it noticeable?” Lexie said with a soft gasp. She brought her hand in front of her mouth and chuckled softly, “Please don’t tell anyone. I needed to attend a few parties and socialite meetings. This is why I had to take a few sips. However, I do not have the habit of drinking too much. It’s just that sometimes we have to put forth an appearance, you understand it, Doctor Harlow?”
She made a shushing gesture as she looked at Ariana who sighed and then started noting down some calming medicines as well as a few pills to soothe the pain from which the woman in front of her was suffering.
After noting it down, she handed it to the maid who came with Lexie.
“These medicines will help you with the pain for the moment but you still need to make another visit to the hospital when Doctor Cole is free,” Ariana said to the woman without agreeing or denying the comment that Lexie made to her. “As he was your attending doctor, he must know of your situation better than anyone.”
“I understand,” Lexie glanced at Ariana who was acting like a real doctor and then waved her hand to dismiss her maid. Once the woman stepped out of the room, Lexie turned to Ariana with a concerned expression, “Are you doing alright, Ariana? If you need my help you can tell me anytime.”
Ariana smiled, her expression remaining composed as she shook her head, “I am doing well, there is no need for you to worry, Miss Campbell.”
“Oh, why are you calling me Miss Campbell?” Lexie said with a reproachful expression. “I mean just because you have divorced Noah, it doesn’t mean that we have to act like strangers, right?”

“I guess, but it is better to draw the line cleanly,” Ariana explained to the young woman who was acting as if they were best buddies even though Lexie had never paid attention to her. “The two of us are no longer from the same circle. I can’t exactly treat you like a friend.”
The last thing she wanted was the Campbell to accuse her that she was deliberately clinging to Lexie.
