Chapter 220: The incident from the past
Ariana had never seen Nicolai as angry as he was when he had smashed his fists next to either side of her head.
He looked like he was going to rip her tongue out of her mouth if she were to say anything more. This alone had tormented her for days as Ariana did not understand what happened ——- the way Nicolai went from a seductive flirt to her personal grim reaper, was enough to give her a whiplash.
Then, after agonizing for days, she finally realized that maybe it was because the man thought that she was going to call him an offender.
She did not mean that.
Ariana hated how Nicolai touched her as if he had the right to do so, but she certainly had no desire to call him ugly names. That man had helped her many times, and she was not that ungrateful.
However,
Ariana looked down at the set of apologies that she had sent to the man, and he had ignored every single one of them.
‘Perhaps I should stop,’ Ariana raised her hand and then rubbed it over her face. Since Nicolai had stopped harassing her, he had clearly backed off. There was no need for her to provoke him anymore.
“Ariana?” A familiar voice came from the front, putting a halt to Ariana’s thoughts.
Ariana raised her head to look at the man who was standing at the door of her office. Her eyes widened when she saw the state he was in at the moment.
“Uncle Jeremy, what are you doing and where did you get the wound on your neck?” Ariana questioned in a concerned voice as she stood up from the chair on which she was sitting.
She walked over to where Jeremy was standing and then stretched out her hand which Jeremy took, she supported him to the examination table before putting on the gloves.
“Please put your hands down,” She asked Jeremy as she turned to pick up the stethoscope.
“Right,” Jeremy nodded as he calmly dropped his hand from the side of his neck. The second he dropped his hand, Ariana inwardly gasped because there was a piece of glass that had sunk into Jeremy’s skin.
The piece of glass was neither big nor small. If it had sunk any deeper, then Jeremy would have lost his life.
“How did you get this injury?” Ariana blurted out before she could stop herself.
When she realized what she had said, Ariana tightly pursed her lips.
“Haha, there is no need to make such an expression,” Jeremy said to Ariana, even though blood was seeping from his wound, he was rather calm. With a gentle smile on his lips, he answered her question, “It’s because I made the mistake of losing my temper. Dad just returned and found out about your and Noah’s divorce. Since my elder brother has never done anything wrong, I was the one who was blamed for leading Noah astray.”
He was talking about the incident where he was caught having an affair by his wife which led to the deaths of his wife and their unborn child.
Ariana was not a member of the Nelson family back then, but she knew that this incident was the cause of the rift between Jeremy and Adrien, the two of them drifted apart after the death of Isabella.
She was not even surprised that Adrien got angry at Jeremy because Noah did something similar to what Jeremy once did when he was young and frivolous.
“Was it grandpa? Did he throw something at you?” Ariana asked as she dealt with the blood that was dripping down Jeremy’s neck.
“Oh no,” Jeremy shook his head with a sweet smile on his lips. “It’s I who lost my temper and left the house in anger. I was heading to the graveyard where Bella is buried, but I met with a small accident and ended up with this piece of glass in my neck.”
His eyes turned solemn with a hint of blame in them as he remarked, “Maybe Bella is still angry with me which is why she stopped me from coming to see her.”
Ariana’s hands paused as she glanced at the blaming expression of Jeremy.
However, she did not console him, as she couldn’t. She cared for Jeremy as he learned his lesson and was affectionate and caring towards her who was in a difficult position in the Nelson family but at the same time she couldn’t ignore the pain that Isabella might have felt when she found her husband in the arms of others.
“Please lie down on your side, a wound this deep will need stitches,” Ariana told Jeremy as she picked up the tweezers and turned to look at Jeremy. “If it feels uncomfortable, make sure to tell me.”
“I will, but can you administer strong anaesthesia? I am scared of pain a bit,” said the man with a teasing glint in his eyes as he looked at the trembling of Ariana’s hands.
“So was it your ghost that was smiling until now?” Ariana retorted. But her heart was no longer in turmoil and her hands were no longer shaking. She just needed to do what she did to everyone, there was no need for her to be scared.
This blood that she cleaned… was because she was saving someone’s life and not taking it. It was different.

This blood was not ——
The one that was spilt.
Ariana asked the nurse to administer the anaesthesia before she started to remove the piece of glass. Once she was done with the clean removal, she stitched the wound and then tied it cleanly with a white bandage before saying,
“Stay in the hospital for two weeks, Jeremy,” she placed the gloves in the tray that carried pieces of medical equipment that needed to be discarded. “The wound that you received is rather close to your vocal cords, in case it gets inflamed, you might end up losing your voice——”
Her words were cut off when the ringing of her phone echoed in the examination room.
