Chapter 223: Asking too much?
“Ma—-Doctor Harlow, do you not think that death is a rather serious punishment for installing a GPS tracker in your phone?” Brandon looked at Noah, who was clutching his head while clenching a rubber ball in his hand tightly.
There was a twitch going on in his forehead, and Brandon did not know whether it was due to anger or pain.
“You are exaggerating,” Ariana calmly stated as she placed the scissors in a bowl of cleaning agent. “No one has ever died of this small amount of pain. Not to mention, this process indeed did not need an injection to numb the region. After all, it was just a two-minute process.”
She then glanced at Noah, who was sitting on the couch like he had suffered some great injustice and added, “It shouldn’t have hurt too much.”
“Do you want me to sew your mouth and rip the thread out?” Noah snapped at the woman who was speaking so carelessly as if his pain meant nothing. Just now when Ariana pulled the thread out of his skin, Noah felt like a layer of his skin was getting torn.
Ariana shrugged as she wrote the names of a few ointments and painkillers on the notepad before tearing off the paper and handing it to Brandon. “Just take these painkillers for a few days, it will help with the headache and nausea. As for the ointment, continue with it for three months.”
“Yes, I understand,” Brandon nodded as he took the prescription and turned to look at Noah, who was sitting on the couch. “Shall we go back now, Mister Nelson?”
“You go, I have something to say to her,” Noah said as he dropped his hand from his forehead. He stood up from the couch before taking a step close to Ariana’s table.
Ariana paused, her actions of picking up a report to read that Aiden had given her halted and she looked at the man who was sending Brandon away.
When Brandon heard Noah’s orders, he glanced at Ari. The two of them exchanged a look which was filled with apprehension and wariness. However, Noah was Brandon’s employer, and he couldn’t possibly ignore the orders of his employer.
“I…I understand,” Brandon made a pleading gesture in front of Ariana as he did not want her to piss Noah off. If this man was angered then the one who had to suffer would be him and the employee of their office.
He walked out of the small office and the door closed behind him.
The awkwardness Ari felt, she doubted anyone could even fathom what she felt at the moment. For years, she had begged for such an opportunity to present itself in front of her but now that it was finally here, she could not stomach it. With every step that Noah took towards her, Ari felt her back turn stiff as she straightened up in her chair.
This day cannot get any worse, she thought while chewing the inside of her mouth.
“You look like you are dreading this conversation more than me,” Noah remarked as he sat down on the chair opposite her and Ariana clenched her fingers. When she raised her head and glared at him, Noah leaned back on his chair and remarked, “Why don’t you put a warning sign outside your door? Dogs and ex-husband not allowed.”
“I think I will do that,” Ariana seethingly stated.
“Too bad you didn’t already,” Noah crossed his arms in front of him. He didn’t wait for her to speak instead he continued to say, “Now you need to listen to what I have to say.”
Ariana wondered if there was a way where she could ever win against Noah. He played by the rules, of course, he did. It was just that the game he played was too dirty.
She raised her gaze and coldly stared at the man, “Did you do this deliberately ?” He knew that she was going to avoid him, so he came to the hospital and cornered her perfectly.
Noah could have gotten the thread removed by just anyone, but he came to look for her.
“You talk as if I am committing a crime,”
“Installing a GPS tracker on the phone of your ex-wife does come under crime record, Mister Nelson,” stated Ariana coldly.
Noah sighed as he ran his hand through his hair. He said, “You might not like this, but it is better for your safety, Nicolai De Luca is not the kind of man you can tame.”
“I am not trying to tame anyone,” Ariana clenched her fingers tightly on her lap. She couldn’t understand why everyone to whom she had reached her hand was bent on hurting her.
She closed her eyes and obscured the emotions that had rushed forth. “As you can see, he gave me a job and even paid off the debt that I owed. Of course, I still have to pay it back, but the situation is better than before.”
“What about his enemies then?” Noah shot back and Ariana furrowed her brows.
“I don’t understand——”
“You are the only one whom he had shown too much interest in. In fact, he had shown you so much interest that I heard a weird rumour going around the higher circle,” Noah curled his lips mockingly. “That someone has tamed the wild hellhound.”
Noah leaned forward and looked at Ariana, whose expression was solemn, “Do you think those people would leave you alone?”
“What if they do? What if they don’t? What does that have to do with you?”

“Ariana,” Noah called her name in an exasperated voice as if he were talking to a stubborn child.
“Noah. I have loved you for three years… even if you could not love me back, the least you can do is let me live in peace, right? Or am I asking too much of you?” Ariana raised her head and met Noah’s eyes which were filled with disbelief and shock.
