Chapter 235: Apology
Ariana gaped at the man who had called her rude. She pushed herself off the couch and jutted her finger out such that she could point it at herself.

“Did you just call me rude?” Her expression was filled with disbelief and anger. Not once in her life, she had been called rude.

“Yeah, yeah,” Nicolai nodded as he brought his face close to Ariana’s. “I did, I called you rude.”

“I beg your pardon?”

“Even if you call for my biggest pardon that I fucking don’t own, I will still call you rude!” Nicolai snapped at Ariana’s face. “I fucking saved you, Pallas, you could have been stuck there for ages with rain falling on the top of your head, and you could have caught a cold. And I did this after setting aside,” he made a motion of picking one thing and putting it to the side,” the anger and complaints that I have against you. But no, instead of a thank you, what do I get?”

His voice rose and fell in the room as he finished speaking.

Nicolai glared at Ariana who glared right back at him and just when he thought that the woman was going to ask him to get out, she opened her mouth and said,

“Thank you.”

“Okay, I will get out of the house. Damn, there is nothing, not one good thing about helping ——wait? What did you say?” Nicolai had already turned around on his feet when his brain registered the words that Ariana said to him.

He turned his head and pointed at Ariana, “What the fuck did you say just now?”

Ariana heaved a sigh and then said to him, “I said thank you for helping me. You are right, I could have been in serious trouble if you hadn’t come down there to help me.” She paused and added, “I would also like to apologize for what happened in your mansion. Though what you did was indeed discomforting to me, I never meant to say anything harsh to you. There was some misunderstanding.”

Nicolai stared at the woman who, despite being stubborn as a mule, was willing to take a step back, he stayed silent for a while before curling his lips to the side before saying, “That was hard wasn’t it?”

“No, it wasn’t,” Ariana turned to look away from the man.

“Then can you repeat it for me? I didn’t hear it the first time.”

“Mister de Luca!”

Nicolai burst out laughing, the anger that he had been suppressing for days disappeared as if washed away by the very raindrops that were falling outside.

“You are so adorable Pallas,” she was one of the few people who apologized to him, one of them being his mother. According to many, he wasn’t a man who bore the burn of their words. Nicolai de Luca, the mad hound of the phantoms——was everything from a peculiar and wild force to the grim reaper himself.

But he was not human, that was at least what people said about him. This would explain why no one apologised to him.

However, sometimes Nicolai de Luca also felt hurt. Surprising but yeah, he did.

Ariana stared at the laughing man with a helpless expression, she glanced at Timmy, who stared right back at her. She wondered whether the little pup had the same thought as her, which was ——

Did Nicolai lose his mind?

Nicolai laughed for a few more seconds before he clapped his hands and said, “Alright, do you want wings?”

“It is seven in the morning,” Ariana deadpanned. “Who eats wings for breakfast?”

“Why do you need to care about others? You like wings, don’t you?” Nicolai asked and Ariana knew that there was no point in denying it as he had already heard her conversation with Cole.

She nodded and wanted to say something else but was interrupted when Nicolai stated, “Have them whenever you want if you like them. Why wait for a special occasion?”

“I don’t know whether you know this or not, Mister de Luca,” Ariana spoke in a conspiratorial manner. “But I have no money to buy wings.”

“What a miser,” Nicolai rolled his eyes as he pulled out his phone, he twisted to the side and said, “Are you okay with spicy?”

“I like spicy,”

“Perfect. We are such a perfect match,” Nicolai said while tapping on the screen of his phone. He turned to look at Ariana and winked at her, “I like spicy too. Don’t you think I am giving such a soulmate vibe?”

“Soulmates stay together forever, Mister de Luca,” Ariana said to the man as she tried to suppress the skipping of her heartbeat.

“Eh?” Nicolai turned his head to the side to a side and that was enough for Ariana’s beating heart to calm down, but then the man turned and looked at her. He grinned wolfishly before saying, “I said what I said, Pallas.”

Ariana’s eyes widened as panic gripped her heart along with something else. Her fingers twitched as she turned on her feet and stammered, “I need to take a bath.” After speaking, she dashed past Nicolai.

“Do you need my help?” Nicolai called out and Ariana paused in her pace before turning to look at the man. She narrowed her eyes and stated, “I will call the cops if you come inside.”

“I was just being helpful with your foot twisted and everything,” he said with an innocent expression which Ariana did not believe in the slightest. She walked inside the bedroom, Timmy following behind her.

Ariana closed the door with a bang, not forgetting to lock the door.

However, once she and Nicolai were separated by a thick wooden wall, Ariana slid down with her back to the door and covered her face with her hands.

“Timmy, what should I do?” Ariana moaned. Just now she was certain that she felt something, but there was no way she could have felt it —— Ariana only had two options in front of her. One being Noah and the other being, staying alone until the end. She could only choose an option from the two. That was how it had always been for her
