Chapter 236: Similarity and likings
“You are done with your shower?” Nicolai asked as he looked up from the basket of wings that he was setting on the table.
“Yeah,” Ariana walked out of the bedroom, she was dressed in a black shirt with a few buttons undone, it was tucked inside the fitted black pants that she was wearing. Her pink hair was styled in waves, she looked really beautiful.
Nicolai took in the appearance of the woman in front of him and smiled. His eyes flew to his outfit, and he said, “Then come and eat.”
“Thanks,” Ariana felt a bit awkward as she took a seat on the chair next to the small dining table. She never thought that the dining table was small but when Nicolai with his six-foot build sat down, the entire space looked way too cramped.
‘What did he even eat while growing up?’ Ari questioned while peeping at the man in front of her. She was not small with her five foot seven inches physique but when she stood in front of Nicolai, Ariana found herself missing a few necessary inches, as she had to tilt her head back to talk to him.
It was quite a pain in her neck. Literally.
“What are you looking at Pallas?” Nicolai asked as he sensed her taking peeks at him. He couldn’t help himself, as the woman was being too blatant.
“I wasn’t looking anywhere,” Ariana straightened up and turned her attention to the wings, her cheeks turning pink as she changed the topic at once, “Did you order a take-out from Cluck’O?”
“Are you even eating wings if you are not eating them from Cluck’O?” Nicolai shrugged his shoulders as he popped a chicken popcorn in his mouth. “No one can ever beat Cluck’O.”
Ariana stared at the man with her mouth open in awe before she smacked the table and said, “You are so right!” Her actions attracted Nicolai’s attention as he looked up at her with confusion in his red eyes. Ariana cleared her throat as she dropped her hand to the side awkwardly.
Just now, when she heard Nicolai say that he liked the wings from Cluck’O, she felt like she had found her kindred spirit and got a little excited.
“Sorry,” she apologetically said with a sheepish smile on her face, “It’s just that I like the wings from Cluck’ O too but my elder sister…well she dislikes eating wings from Cluck’ O, she often said that they were too greasy for her taste.” Ariel had often complained to their parents about the taste of the wings from Cluck’ O being unappetizing.
Though she gave the reason that it was unhealthy to eat at Cluck’ O, Ariana had a sick suspicion that Ariel only did it because she found out that she liked wings from Cluck’ O.
“Let me guess, she likes the wings from Daddy Chick?” Nicolai said after she finished speaking and Ariana’s eyes widened before she gasped in surprise, “How did you know?”
“Because I know that your sister is a miserable, little white sheep who wants the validation and attention of others like a pitiful little spoiled brat. I bet she chose Cluck’ O over Daddy Chick when every single celebrity was gushing over their wings being healthy and shit,” Nicolai made a gesture with his fingers as he snorted. Disdain filled his eyes as he picked up a drumstick and bit into it like a savage.
He continued, “Your sister dislikes the idea of being the black sheep of the group, from what I can see. So she will call something delicious even if it’s not.” He paused and then added, “Hundred dollars, I will bet a hundred dollars that your sister will start drinking the chia seed coffee, like the other stars.”
“I don’t think she will do that,” Ariana said with her nose scrunched up.
“Bet?” Nicolai asked as he held his hand in front of her.
Ariana blinked her eyes before pondering a little as she raised her hand and shook Nicolai’s outstretched hand. “Bet.”
The two of them continued to eat as Nicolai shared more and more stories about how he fell in love with Cluck’ O’s wings.
“Kayden and I were once returning to the city and because we were busy for the entire day, neither of us ate anything,” Nicolai licked his lips and remarked, “So we stopped by Daddy Chick as it was much more popular. Biggest mistake of our lives, the wings were dry, no spices and of course the chicken was three days old.”
“You are joking right,” Ariana felt sick as she remembered how many times she and her family ate at Daddy Chick. No wonder the wings that were supposed to be tender were hard as a rock.
“Nope. Kayden nearly buried the man in the middle of his own restaurant, that reminds me,” Nicolai threw the bones on a tissue paper before stating, “I need to tell that guy to build a monument for me and Kayden next to his restaurant, people should be paying us tributes, we rescued their sheep walking the circle—— asses from getting a bad stomach ache.”
Ariana let out a light chuckle. She had to admit that if one was to ignore the fact that Nicolai was a mafia leader, he was a fun company.
“You are right, you two really saved them,” Ariana agreed with the man as she finished the last wing in the bucket.
“Right?” Nicolai drawled with an excited expression. “I told my mom the same thing, and she said that I was bullying the poor man too much, as if. I saved his arse from getting buried alive.” He let out a snort.
Ariana was amused by the words of the man, but then she glanced at the clock hanging on the wall and yelped, “Oh no, I will be late.”
“A ride?” Nicolai offered with a raise of his brow as he finished wiping his fingers on the napkin.
If it were some other day, Ariana would have refused but not today. Because she was running late, and it was raining too heavily.
