Chapter 237: Really her daughter?
On the other side, in the Clover City,
“The weather is too gloomy,” a woman with long flowing rosy pink hair was sitting in a large greenhouse. Her small figure was surrounded by roses, lilies and many other flowers as petals of many little flowers that had fallen on the ground swirled around her feet.
The woman was looking at the dome-shaped roof of the greenhouse while sitting in a dainty and exquisite chair that was painted white with legs that were carved in the shape of leaves and flowers.
“Is it?” Penny, who sat opposite the woman, raised her head and looked at the roof of the greenhouse. “I think the weather is romantic, Mom.”
Kaylyn Ashford brought her head down, her green eyes filled with worry as she reminded her daughter, “Did you forget that you need to pay attention to your health on rainy days? You cannot fall sick, Penny.”
“I know mum, relax,” Penny rolled her eyes as she drank her tea.
“I would relax if you listened to me a little more. Why did you fly to the Lonest City? How many times have I asked you to not leave the house without telling me or your father?” Kaylyn reprimanded Penny who rolled her eyes again.
She said, “I told Keon and Mateo that I was leaving.”
“On the phone, Penny,” Kaylyn corrected her daughter. “You told them on the phone, while Emil had no idea where you were, telling someone where you are going before leaving the house and doing the same thing on the phone are two different things.”
“Mom, you are overreacting,” Penny set her teacup on the saucer with a harsh thump. She spread her hands in front of her and stated, “I heard some bimbo was getting chummy with Nico, so I just went to warn her off. You and everyone in the family know that I like Nico, don’t you?”
She crossed her arms and commented angrily, “Since none of you are willing to help me, I can only take things in my hands.”
Kaylyn stared at her stubborn daughter. Sometimes she couldn’t understand where Penny got her temper. Neither she nor her husband, Theodore, had such a stubborn and bitter temper.
Even when they were young, the two of them were polite and respectful to their parents. Penelope on the other hand…
“What are you wearing?” Kaylyn understood that there was no point in talking about the abrupt visit to the Lonest City with Penny, instead, she turned her attention to the clothes that her daughter was wearing.
“What? What’s wrong?” Penny asked as she looked down and took a careful look at her attire. However, she did not find anything wrong with it. “It is fine, does it not look cute?”
“Cute?” Kaylyn closed her eyes and wondered where she went wrong with her daughter’s education. She said, “You are wearing a shirt with no buttons and a single strand of thread attaching the two sides! The trust that you have on that thread, I don’t think your dad has so much trust in Keon either.”
She rubbed her forehead and said to Penny, “Respect yourself a little, Penny. There is no need for you to change yourself for Nicolai, if that man truly desires and wants to marry you, he will like you as you are.”
“Mom, you do not understand,” Penny stated feeling a little annoyed. She felt suffocated as everyone kept telling her that she couldn’t do this and was unable to do that. “I know what I am doing, I am way past twenty, I am no longer a child who needs you to tell me what I can do and cannot.”
After speaking, she stood up from the chair and walked away.
Kaylyn watched Penny leave and shook her head.
“It seems like I made a mistake in raising my daughter,” she muttered as she finished the last of her tea in the teacup.
Back in the Lonest City,
Ariana stepped inside the ward where Millie was admitted. She was holding a small art supplies set along with a drawing book.
“Miss Millie, are you feeling alright today?” Ariana asked as she stepped close to the bed and sat down the art supplies on the small white cabinet on the left side of the bed.
Millie glanced at the art supplies and her eyes brightened, but she did not reach out to take them.
“Today, we are going to something different,” Ariana told the young woman as she pulled on the gloves and then said to the young woman, “This nice nurse is here to give you some pills and medicines. Miss Millie, if you drink the medicine then this art supplies set will be yours. What do you think it’s a good offer right?”
“Medicine is bitter,” Millie tugged at the sleeves of her shirt nervously as she eyed Mable who stood behind Ariana.
“I know it’s bitter but if you drink it, then you will be able to go out, I heard from Mable that you want to visit the art museum ?” Ariana smilingly said to Millie.
“I do,” Millie’s mind was muddled because of the shock she received, and she became hyperactive while dealing with people she did not like, but she was still very much sane and rational. “I like drawing, sketching and painting. My dad promised that he would take me to the museum next month.”
“Isn’t that great?” Ariana clapped her hands as she said, “But if Miss Millie drinks her medicine on time and cooperates with Doctor Stoll and the nurses then you can go to the museum sooner.”

Millie bit her lips, she was obviously tempted, but she despised the idea of getting close to a man.
Every man looked like that masked man who tried to hurt her.
Seeing that the woman was halfway convinced, Ariana thought about it a little and added, “If you agree to drink your medicine on time then I will bring you a cake every day from the coffee shop down the lane. They sell excellent cakes.”
“Cakes? I can eat cakes?”
