Chapter 238: Catch the tail
“Yes, you can,” Ariana gave Millie a kind smile. “I used to work in a café called Leila’s café. The desserts there are baked by the owner herself and the cakes that she makes are the fluffiest. You will not find a cake fluffier than the ones sold at Leila’s. If you drink and take your medicines on time, then I will bring a small piece of cake every day for you.”
Though Ariana knew that Millie hailed from a rich family and might have tasted delicacies finer than the cakes baked by Leila—— she still wanted to do something for the poor girl. Ariana had no idea why the Ashford family left this girl alone.
From what she heard Millie had been in the hospital for six months and the number of visits by her family members could be counted on one hand.
Millie clenched her fingers as she turned to look at Mable who smiled at her gently. She comforted her, “It’s not bitter, Miss Millie. Doctor Stoll arranged for a slightly sweeter medicine for you.”
Millie did not trust her, she had lost the ability to trust someone from the very day her nanny betrayed her and left her in the hands of that masked man.
However, Millie sensed Mable’s kindness and reached out to take the medicine.
She drank the small scoop of medicine and took the pills, by the time she was done taking her medicines, her face was paler than it was before.
“You have done a fantastic job, Miss Millie,” Ariana praised as she handed the girl the art set that she had brought with her, which the young woman happily took.
Seeing how happy Millie looked, Ariana’s eyes softened as well. “What are you going to draw first, Miss Millie?”
“Secret,” the woman said in a soft voice and Ariana’s lips curled into a smile, and she nodded, “I see it’s a secret. Then Nurse Mable and I will not distract you anymore.”
She rose from the seat and like always pointed to the small emergency bell button on the side of the bed, before saying, “If you feel sick, Miss Millie push the button alright? We will come to see you at once.”
Millie nodded obediently as she opened the arts and crafts book.
When Ariana saw that the little girl was busy with her things, she did not disturb her anymore. She walked out of the ward with Mable and silently closed the door behind her.
However, as soon as she closed the door and turned around, she saw tears in Mable’s eyes.
“Is everything alright, Nurse Mable?” She asked with concern.
“Everything is alright,” Nurse Mable sniffed as she replied in a thick voice, “It’s just … it is such a pity. Miss Millie was such a sweet little girl, and yet, she was kidnapped and tormented like this. Just because of a small feud between two families.”
Ariana listened but did not say anything, as she was not related to Millie nor was she an acquaintance, she could not do anything apart from being more kind to her, but she was unable to poke her nose even if she was curious about Millie’s past.
“She will be fine. Doctor Stoll said that Miss Millie might be easily triggered, but she hasn’t gone insane which is a good sign as it strongly suggests that she is a strong-minded woman,” Ariana comforted Nurse Mable who nodded.
“I know. It’s just that I have watched these kids grow, and they are all close to my heart…all except one,” Nurse Mable grumbled when she thought about Penelope.
That girl was lucky that she was born by someone as kind as Kaylyn, if not, she would have set her up for adoption.
Ariana curled her lips at the angry remark of Nurse Mable, but she did not ask about the person about whom Nurse Mable was talking, instead, she said to her, “Do you want a break? I think I do. We can get a latte or two.”
“Really? I never thought that I would hear this from Iron Intern Ari,” Nurse Mable teased Ariana with the nickname that was circulating among the staff these days.
“Please don’t tease me, Nurse Mable,” Ariana shook her head as she smiled lightly. As she continued to walk down the corridor, Ariana suddenly glanced back at the ward where Millie was admitted before turning to look away.
‘I hope that the art set brings as much joy and comfort to you as it once did to me, Miss Millie.’

Back in the far corner of the Lonest City, where the underground market was located, thugs and thieves were bustling around the street. Some people were engaged in fights, while most of them were haggling with the sellers, leaving a chatter in the air that never dulled for a second.
“What do you mean this weed is two hundred and fifty dollars?”
“Come on, man, it’s not my fault that the gun didn’t shoot on time. You gotta keep this baby clean, capisce?”
And while the thugs and the thieves quibbled with one another, there were also some people who came to this market out of curiosity and desperation. But they were chased out by the Phantoms the second they stepped inside this underground market.
“Seems like Little Red Riding Hood came too far in the forest, eh?” A man was stopped by none other than Nicolai de Luca. With his tall build, Nicolai looked at the commoner who was holding the fake entry card. He reached out and with a flick of his hand, he snatched the card from the hands of the man.

“Hmm? It’s a fake,” Nicolai remarked before bunching the card in his hands. “No surprise there, since I don’t keep company like yours.”
“Mister de Luca, I was threatened to come here——”
“Shh,” Nicolai reached forward and then placed his hand on the lips of the man. “There is no need to fret, my friend. You can confess about your crimes as much as you want once you are tied, trapped and pummeled to the ground, okay?”
“Mister de Luca!” The man panicked as he almost knelt down to beg Nicolai but was caught by his men before being dragged away.
“Nico?”
