Chapter 239: Price of foolish pride
Kayden quickly caught up to Nicolai from behind, he was sweating a little, but he was not winded even though he came running. “We found the hideout of those bastards. It was just as you predicted, they were actually trying to stabilize themselves in the Lonest city.”
They have been searching for the tail that had been cut and hidden by the Serpents ever since Millie’s kidnapping. Everyone in the familia thought that they ran away after capturing Millie and getting what they wanted, but Nicolai insisted that even if the lizard cut off its tail, they still needed to catch the tail.
Because it would be too late if that thing deteriorated and left a stain.
Kayden believed that his cousin was being paranoid but as they finally found the trail of the Serpents, he realized that Nicolai was not in the wrong.
“Good, let’s go. We should finish what we started,” stated Nicolai as he unbuttoned his shirt and threw it inside the car. What? It was his favourite, he wasn’t staining it. That shit was expensive and comfy.
More importantly, it was what he wore when hugging Ariana.
Kayden nodded, and the two brothers drove past the underground market as soon as Kayden slid into the driver’s seat. The two came to a stop in front of a dilapidated bar, and Kayden placed his foot on the rubble outside his car after pushing the door open.
Nicolai followed his lead as he looked at the woman who was trembling like a leaf. His eyes swept down at the woman and Nicolai whistled, “You really have no problem using anything, don’t you Kay?”
Hearing his words, Kayden curled his lips and winked at his cousin, “She sucks well.”
He then turned around and looked at the woman who flinched, “Did you bring that man here, sweetie? I would be upset if you did not.”
“H…he is inside,” the woman replied while clutching the hem of her dress.
Nicolai looked at the woman who looked at the floor but two seconds later she raised her head and looked at the two brothers.
Then came Nicolai’s sarcastic words, “Do you think you are my lover that I will trust you blindly? Move in the front.”
“Y…yes!” The woman jumped on her heels and then turned around to walk inside the bar. She then apprehensively said to the two men, “Please follow me.”
Nicolai, Kayden, and the woman started to walk inside the empty bar. The ground was covered with shards of wine bottles, old beer cans and some other things.
After a turn to the right, the woman who was leading came to a stop in front of the VIP room. The room was locked, and the woman had to call the manager of the place to open it before she pushed it open.
The woman turned to look at the two men before saying, “He is highly intoxicated, and we also drugged him as Mister Kayden asked us to do.”
Nicolai peeked inside the room and saw a man tied on the couch, “Are you sure he is the right person?”
“He is, I have served him many times on the orders of Master Kayden,” the woman immediately answered. “You can ask Mister Kayden about this, Mister De Luca. He will tell you that we did not betray the Phantoms.”
The manager nodded heavily on the side.
“Let us hope you haven’t…because if you did, then if your father sold your body, I will sell your organs,” replied Nicolai, looking at the woman. “If only you had honestly paid back the money instead of wh*ring around in another city after running away.”
The woman lowered her head, hoping that she would be let off the hook. As soon as she repays this debt, she was going to move out of the city. She foolishly sold everything under the name of her father when she found out that he was in debt.
After that, she went abroad and started living there, who would have expected that she would still get caught?
“Forgive me for my foolish ignorance,” the woman apologized. “I was scared to be killed.”
Nicolai snorted, he said to the woman, “You don’t have to worry about being killed as long as you honestly repay the debt. The only thing I love more than blood pooling on the ground is money.”
The two brothers stepped inside the room.
“Well, well, well…would you look at that? He is our dear uncle,” Nicolai smirked. “No wonder Millie was so easily kidnapped. That bitch’s brother was working with the Serpents.”
He walked forward and came to stand in front of the well-dressed man. The man was covered in his bile and his hands were tied, along with his legs. His eyes were in a daze as he looked around and screamed,
“Do you know how my sister is?”
“I know, she is motherf*cking sl*t,” Kayden snorted.

“How dare you do something like this to me? I will kill you! I can kill you all with just a flick of my wrist.”
His voice was hoarse and he was a drunken mess.
“I never knew that your sister was now ruling the Lonest City, Maximus,” Nicolai chuckled as he crouched and knotted his fingers in the hair of the man. He pulled him down until he was kneeling on the floor before gleefully exclaiming, “Lookie, lookie, what’s this? It’s my bitch.”
The man’s eyes were still blurred as he tried to make sense of the situation. However, as soon as his eyes raised and his gaze fell on Nicolai’s face, Maximus’s face turned pale and all the wine that had gone to his head, came trickling down.
“Ni—-Nicolai? What are you doing here? Let me go now if your dad finds out——”
“Yada, Yada, yay…do you think I care what that stupid bastard thinks?” Nicolai rolled his eyes. He pulled Maximus up by his hair before saying, “However, thanks for telling me. I will remember to send your head with a lovely little message about how you helped the Serpents kidnap the daughter of the Ashfords.”
“Bet your lovely sister will do everything in her power to make herself look innocent as if she had no idea about your little scheme.”
