Chapter 242: The First Session (2)
“Sir, how about the hospital compensating you if your reports turn out to be fine?”
The quarrel that seemed to be getting more and more heated suddenly turned calm, as soon as the man heard these words. He turned to look at the woman who had come to stand beside the doctor who was asking him to take the tests.
“You mean it?” The man straightened up, even the nerve throbbing in his neck eased a little. “You aren’t lying to me just because you two are from the same hospital?” He moved his fingers between Cole and Ariana.
“Yes, I mean it,” Ariana nodded with a polite smile on her face. “But of course, if one of our senior doctors is insisting that there is something wrong with your condition, then I will naturally believe him.”
“But I assure you sir, we will never do something so awful as fooling a patient,” she quickly added when Ariana saw that the man had opened his mouth to quibble again. “You can take the tests that Doctor Cole has asked you to, if there is any mistake in Doctor Cole’s diagnosis, then we will compensate you necessarily.”
“What if you refuse to compensate?” The man still looked suspicious.
Ari was slightly helpless in front of his stubborn insistence, she sighed and stated, “I assure you that you will be compensated. If someone refuses then I will compensate you from my own pocket as I was the one who suggested the compensation.”
She paused and added, “But I don’t think that there will be a need for compensation as I trust Doctor Cole.”
Cole who stood next to Ariana glanced at her, a complex set of emotions flashed in his eyes as he turned to look at the man. His lips curled in a smile and he said, “There is no need for a little intern to pay for the compensation. Since I am the one who made the diagnosis, as long as there is even the slightest mistake, I will willingly compensate you, Mister Adam.”
“Nothing is more important to us than the lives of our patients, even if it means a little compensation——we are willing.”
“Fine,” Mister Adam snorted as he agreed to do the tests.
“This way,” the male nurse who was waiting for Mister Adam to follow him, promptly asked the man to come with him.
Mister Adam walked past Ariana and Cole, he was still grumbling.
Ariana heaved a sigh of relief, she was about to walk away as well when Cole spoke up from behind,
“Thank you, Doctor Ariana,” his lips curled in a soft smile as he said to her, “I did not know that you have so much trust in me. I must say that I am flattered.”
“You are wrong, Doctor Cole,” Ariana stated with a cold expression. “While I do trust your skills, I trust my judgement more. That man was suffering from yellow eyes and skin with bad breath, it’s easy to diagnose that the man was suffering from liver failure.”
“Anyway, if you cannot even make such a simple diagnosis while being a senior doctor of this hospital then I guess, it was I who made the mistake of coming here to do my internship.”
With those words she turned on her feet and walked away.
Cole, who was left behind, recovered from his shock before laughing out loud.
“Seriously? Can’t she just take a flirty compliment?”
When Ariana arrived at Doctor Stoll’s office, he was finishing up with his last patient for the day.
Doctor Stoll smiled at her, with his eyes gently staring at her, he asked, “Is everything alright outside? I heard the loud ruckus but as I was busy with my patient, I couldn’t come out.”
“It was nothing, someone with liver failure was refusing to cooperate,” Ariana answered as she took a seat where the last patient of Doctor Stoll was sitting.
Doctor Stoll frowned as he asked, “Was everything settled?”
“Yes, we suggested compensation in case of the wrong diagnosis,” Ariana told the rest of the incident to Doctor Stoll who lips curled up in a small smile. He said, “I wonder if it’s okay for me to treat you.”
“What do you mean, Doctor Stoll?” Ariana questioned with a furrow of her brows.
“You will understand once we are done with today’s session,” Doctor Stoll pushed his glass up the bridge of his nose. He stood up from his chair and then walked over to the projector where he started to fiddle with it.
“What’s today’s session about?” Ariana asked Doctor Stoll who hummed as he pushed the buttons of the projector while the assistant nurse arranged the white screen.
“It is a movie session,” Doctor Stoll replied and Ariana wondered if she had heard him wrong.
“I am sorry?”

“We are going to watch a movie. Well you are and we are going to accompany you,” Doctor Stoll explained as he turned on the projector and a white circle with number ten in between appeared in the centre of the white circle. “After we are done with the movie, you are going to tell me about the emotions that you felt while watching it.”
“Even if there is a smallest flicker of emotional upheaval make sure to tell me.”
Ariana didn’t understand why Doctor Stoll was asking her to see a movie. However, he was a professional when it came to such matters, so Ariana decided to trust him.
“Alright,” she agreed.
Soon the room turned dark as the assistant turned the lights dim while Ariana turned her attention to the projector and the screen.
The movie had already started playing. It was about a little dog and its master.
Fifteen minutes in the movie, and from the sniffling of the assistant nurse who stood behind her, Ariana knew that the movie was heart touching.
However, other than feeling a tad bit sad…Ariana felt nothing. She didn’t even shed a few tears when the dog drew its last breath.
Contrary to her, the assistant nurse burst into tears.
