Chapter 258: Lost warmth
At the Nelson mansion,
“Are you sure you want this grandfather?” Noah looked at the golden invite that was addressed to Ariana and did not know what to make out of it.
He knew that his grandfather missed his ex-wife but it still felt awkward to have her under the same roof as him, when their divorce was still fresh.
‘Not to mention, after finding out how deep her affection for me was—— it’s even complicated to look at her,’ Noah thought bitterly while staring at the name written in silver italics. This name now haunted him in his dreams, every time he dreamed of Ariana, he would find his heartache.
In the past, when he thought of Ariana, Noah only had anger and blame. But now guilt was added in the mix which had made it certainly difficult for him to calculate against her.
And uses her existence to his advantage such that he can find the murderer of his grandmother.
“Of course, I want to do it,” Adrien Nelson said to Noah with a touch of authority in his voice as he turned his gaze away from the many invitations that Harrison was showing to him.
They were finalizing the final list for his birthday party and ball, where he had signed the first card for none other than Ariana.
Killian and Jeremy stayed quiet, as they knew that their father was a stubborn man. Since he had decided to invite Ariana, there was no need for them to say anything as he would not change his mind.
Glynn, on the other hand, looked at the invitation card and her face turned sour. She said to her grandfather, “You are making a mistake grandfather. We sent that leech away with great difficulty. If you bring her back then she will definitely cling to my brother.”
Though Mrs Nelson did not say anything, she agreed with Glynn. However, she wanted it to happen and thus stayed quiet.
Bang!
The sound of fists hitting the wooden table echoed in the main hall of the Nelson mansion. Mister Adrien glared at Glynn before saying, “I understand that I cannot say or put my word in the matters of how you and your brother live, but I believe that I at least have the right to call my little Bubble to my birthday party. Or do you think that I am too old and useless for that too?”
“Of course father,” Mrs Nelson immediately agreed with her father-in-law. She pinched her daughter on her waist while smiling at Mister Adrien, “You can, of course, decide the guest list. No matter what, Ariana and our family had such a long relationship, how can we not invite her to the party?”
Only then did Mister Adrien snort and turn his sharp gaze away from Glynn who breathed a sigh of relief but at the same time she felt wronged.
‘Why does grandpa like that greedy bitch so much? She is nothing but a homewrecker,’ Glynn pursed her lips and thought angrily.
“Make sure to send the invitation to Ariana today and ask her to text me,” Mister Adrien said to Noah with a stern voice. “She will definitely not give you her number so give her mine instead.”
Mister Adrien knew just how unpopular his grandson was with Ariana at the moment.
A drop of sweat dropped from Noah’s temple, and he sighed before agreeing, “I will tell her what you have said to me.” Of course that would happen only when Ariana let him speak to her.
“Very well, she will certainly not refuse if you give her my name. Unlike you and your sister, my little bubble has a lot of respect for me,” Mister Adrien took a sharp jibe at the two siblings while praising Ariana.
“We respect you just as much as she does, grandfather, maybe even more than her,” Glynn immediately refuted, she did not like how her grandfather praised that woman and condemned her.
“Is it why you took the signature of your brother and caused the two of them to be divorced, even when I told you not to?” Mister Adrien volleyed back as he returned his gaze to Glynn, whose face was red with embarrassment. “Now instead of quibbling with me, go and study. And for the love of God, make sure that you pass with flying colours this time around.”
“Woe betide if you were to fail this year as well.”
Noah shook his head and took his leave. He knew now that his grandpa had opened the record of Glynn’s less-than-decent performance in college, there was no ending to this lecture.
And there was an hour left for Glynn to leave for her college.
He strode out of the house and climbed down the marble stairs, his leather clicking on the surface.
“Master Noah,” Harrison chased after him upon seeing him leave. “You forgot your lunch again. Don’t worry, the chef prepared it according to your liking.”
Noah looked at the lunch box and pursed his lips. He wanted to tell Harrison that the lunch had always been lacking in something, but he couldn’t put his finger on it.
The salt and spices were in place but —-
‘Noah, I pre…prepared it just for you,’ a sweet voice, followed by that sweet smile with eyes that looked just at him flashed in front of his eyes.

“Ugh,” Noah raised his hand and pressed the heel of his palm on his forehead. His head throbbed with a sharp pain.
“Master Noah, are you alright?” Harrison became worried when he saw the expression on Noah’s face. “You do not look alright, shall I call the doctor?”
“I am fine, there is no need to call Luciano,” Noah waved his hand, he closed his eyes and waved his hand before taking the lunch box. “From now on just ask someone to send the lunch box to my office, there is no need to give it to me in the morning. The food will get cold.” He added lest Harrison thought too much.
However, as Harrison watched Noah leave, he tilted his head to the side and questioned, “I thought that lunch box was the best in thermal retention.”
How would that poor man know that —— the warmth Noah spoke of would never return, even with the finest lunch box?
