Chapter 271: Shopping together
The air suddenly turned hostile and stiff inside the ward like the first time when Ariana came to examine Millie. The young woman did not speak nor did she look at Ariana.
Ariana didn’t look away from Millie. Instead, she calmly said to the young woman, “Alright, I will not touch you. Do you want to drink some water to calm yourself down?” Her voice was filled with concern.
Receiving no response, Ariana sighed and then poured a glass of water for Millie who took it tentatively. The young woman drank the water reluctantly sip by sip and looked around the room again and again as if she was reassuring herself that she was still in the ward and not somewhere else.
Ariana noticed that Millie was agitated and administered an injection that would turn Millie drowsy and then let her fall asleep.
After administering the injection Ariana waited for Millie to fall asleep. Once the young woman was asleep, Ariana packed up her bag and changed into her informal clothes as her shift had finally ended. She dashed out of the hospital as she was in a hurry to arrive at the 99 shop.
The 99 shop was a shop in the black market that sold decent clothing for just ninety-nine dollars. Of course, whether the clothes purchased by someone turned out decent depended on their luck and speed of picking the best batch out of the rest.
However, just as she stepped out of the hospital and was heading towards the taxi stand, a large shadow passed by her and came to a stop in front of her.
“Well hello there, Pallas,” Nicolai greeted her through gritted teeth. He seemed agitated and Ariana was not surprised as she remembered teasing him a little by calling him an egoistic twat, never did she think that it would bother him so much.
“How long have you been standing outside the hospital, Mister de Luca?” Ariana asked as she calmly looked at the man.
“Three or four hours but that’s not what matters. What matters is whether you purchased your degree or faked your qualifications,” Nicolai hissed under his breath causing Ariana to furrow her brows.
“I am afraid not,” Ariana replied cautiously. “But why are you saying such a thing, Mister de Luca?”
“Why? Haha. Because I wanted to ask you whether or not you know that someone can die because of high blood pressure. What kind of doctor raises a person’s blood pressure, Pallas?” Nicolai brought his face closer to Ariana who leaned back. Her eyes moved to the small mole under Nicolai’s right and Ariana suddenly felt an urge to touch it.
Ariana suppressed that sudden impulsive urge while trying to hide her flustered expression. She said in a not-so-scary voice, “Good. Then maybe Mister de Luca will stop jumping on me out of nowhere because there is a chance that I might also die because of how you continuously interrupt my personal space and time.”
“That’s…” he snapped his fingers. “…..not going to happen, you better get used to me poking my nose in your space, Pallas. Because it’s going to happen a lot more in the future.”
“Poor me, I suddenly feel sorry for my future self,” Ariana huffed as she turned on her feet to walk away but the man was right after her.
“Don’t be, she will be much happier with me than she is now,” Nicolai remarked as he followed her like a gigantic dog. “Are you in a hurry to go somewhere?” He asked with a subtle frown as he leaned close to her face.
“Yes, I need to go to a thrift store. There is this ball that I need to attend even though I have no interest in it,” Ariana replied. And she was not lying, she truly had no interest in the Nelson ball as she knew that Glynn would try her best to ostracize her while Ariel would try something even more dangerous.
The last time the two joined hands Ariana found herself in the bottom of the swimming pool. She did not know how to swim as her mother never let her learn it and it was the only thing that Ariana was not confident with.
Woe betide when those two women joined hands to find trouble with her.
But she had to attend the ball as Adrien would throw another fit if she was not next to him.
“How odd, I also need to shop for a decent suit,” Nicolai grinned at her before he said, “If you do not mind, why don’t we shop for clothes together?”
“Did you miss out on the part where I said that I was going to a thrift store, Mister de Luca?” Ariana turned to the man and said in an exasperated voice.
“That’s why we will not be going to the thrift or whatever store,” Nicolai said to her as he looped his arm around her neck and then took her around such that they were now heading to his car. “Can’t have you, dressed like a rag queen, Pallas. I ain’t that cheap.”
“And since when was it your problem?”
“Since I set my eyes on you.”
The two quibbled back and forth, unbeknownst to them someone was looking at them quarrel while hiding in the shadows.
Brandon watched Ariana smile as Nicolai said something to her. Though it was not a smile with which a woman would look at her lover, it was close. At least Ariana was no longer looking at that man with disgust as she used to in the past.
“Are you done tormenting yourself, Noah?” Brandon asked as he turned to look at the man sitting in the shadows with only a golden hue illuminating his bottom half.
He raised his head and glared at Brandon who zipped his mouth shut and turned to face the front.

“Follow them,” Noah ordered and Brandon almost cursed out loud.
He once again turned to look back and said, “Why? Do you think, you haven’t suffered enough?”
