He needed to sit down. He really needed to sit down and process the disaster he had caused for himself.

“Ariana, to whom you are talking to?”

Nicolai was in the middle of speaking when the sound of footsteps echoed in the apartment and when he raised his head, he saw a tall man dressed in a prim and proper grey suit.

His black hair was gelled properly behind with only a few strands left to hover over his forehead.

The man raised his head and looked at Nicolai with a frown before saying, “Who are you?”

“Forget about me for two seconds. Who the fuck are you? And what are you doing in Pallas’s house?” Nicolai growled.

He hadn’t even dealt with Noah properly from where did this man suddenly pop out?

The man in question frowned even harder. He raised his arms and crossed them in front before stating in a cold voice, “I am Ari’s best friend from college. We have known each other for more than ten years, and I am this close to punching you in your face, so you better tell me who the fuck you are and why are you knocking on the door of my friend.”

“Danny,” Ariana placed her hand on Danny’s arm and Nicolai narrowed his eyes. She better drop that hand or else he was going to twist the arm of this man until he found it impossible to use it again.

As if sensing the murderous intentions flooding off Nicolai’s skin, Ariana turned to look at him. She said to him, “This is Danny, and he has a boyfriend.”

She didn’t understand why she felt the need to introduce Danny to Nicolai, but Ariana blurted out those words before she could stop herself.

Only then those eyes that had darkened like a ferocious beast calmed down.

Nicolai retracted his gaze and turned to look at Ariana. He parted his lips to say something, but before he could say something, Danny leaned in close to Ariana and questioned, “How did you come to know this man?”

Because of the dim lighting, Danny didn’t see the face of the man clearly earlier but as he stepped closer to Ariana, he realized that the man in front of him was none other than Nicolai de Luca.

It was simply unbelievable.

Ariana Harlow, the stern and perfect woman who wouldn’t allow even the smallest slip-up to happen actually got close to someone like Nicolai de Luca. He was the mafia prince of this city for fuck’s sake.

His life held more danger and blood than Ariana could imagine. What was she doing by staying close to a man like him?

What in the world happened to his friend? Why was she suddenly acquainted with someone like Nicolai de Luca?

“I—— do know, Mister de Luca,” Ariana answered, but she did not explain how and why she came in contact with Nicolai.

Danny narrowed his eyes. He began, “Ari, you——”

“Dallas, we are getting late,” before Danny could finish speaking, he was interrupted by Nicolai. “I came to fetch you.” He knew what this man wanted to say and Nicolai had no desire to hear it.

‘What are you doing? Why are you even playing with that boy?’

‘Shouldn’t you know better than to play with de Luca?’

‘I heard he drinks human blood and eats the flesh of the humans his mother kills.’

‘Stay away from de Luca. If you offend him, the last thing you will know is that you will die a pathetic death.’

Ariana glanced at Danny who was glaring at Nicolai for interrupting him. However, he didn’t say anything as he said to her, “If something happens, call me.”

“Something? Do you think that I will kill her and bury her in the middle of a forest?” Nicolai asked in a scathing voice having faced many situations like this before.

Danny raised his head and smiled at Nicolai before saying, “No. Even though I do not appreciate the company she is keeping, I will reserve my judgment towards you, Mister de Luca.”

“What I wanted to say to Ari was that she should call me in case someone makes her uncomfortable at the party.”

“You don’t need to worry about that,” Nicolai smiled as he held his hand out for Ariana to take. “I know how to take care of pests.”

“What if you become one of those pests?”

The smile on Nicolai’s lips slipped as he raised his hand, but before he could say anything to Danny, Ariana reached out and held his hands.

“Didn’t you say that we were getting late, Mister de Luca? Let’s go, shall we?” Ariana turned to look at Danny and kissed him on the cheek before saying, “Thank you for everything Danny, I will be leaving now. I baked apple pie for you and Trey this morning, make sure to take it with you. It’s in the refrigerator.”

She said all of that in a single breath before dragging Nicolai with her.

And Nicolai who was busy glaring at Danny let her because he was not confident about not punching the man in the face.

It was one thing that he was with Ariana in her house at such an hour, but it was another thing for him to get a kiss from Ariana. Even if it was a simple peck on his cheek, for Nicolai it was nothing less than a criminal offence.

Was he jealous? No. That couldn’t even cover up what he was feeling.

He was burning with jealousy. Never did he know that jealousy would feel so fucking ugly.

“You can stop glaring at him now, Mister de Luca,” Nicolai heard Ariana say as the elevator doors closed where they could look at their reflection in the shiny doors.

“I will. Just give me a moment,” Nicolai said to Ariana as he tried to calm down. He glanced at her reflection and saw her roll her eyes, his eyes narrowed instinctively and Nicolai remarked, “You can kiss me too, that will ease my anger much more quickly.”

“On second thought, you can continue glaring, Mister De Luca. You look rather cute.”
