Chapter 296: Flower bed fertilizer
Mrs Nelson could feel her face burning in shame. Even though Ariana was no longer Noah’s wife, she was still holding the title of being his ex-wife.
Even this position was too much for a woman of her status. Thus, Mrs. Nelson took it for granted that Ariana would never embarrass them by getting involved with another man.
However, that woman was walking with another man just after a few months of divorce and the man beside her was none other than Nicolai De Luca!
Who didn’t know who Nicolai was? He was a mafia prince as well as the rival of her son. Yet, Ariana was foolishly accompanying that man as his partner.
Just the very thought of the scandalous gossip that was going to start flying all over the city tomorrow morning, made Mrs Nelson have trouble breathing.
She said, “It seems like that woman has lost her mind after the divorce, she must be trying to attract your attention, Noah.” Mrs Nelson could see many women looking at her with an inquisitive look.
They seemed to be waiting for the piping hot tea to be served, and Mrs Nelson refused to hand it to them.
Instead, she made it sound as if Ariana were the one who was doing this to make Noah jealous.
It would be too humiliating to admit that the woman moved on from her son when she went around telling anyone who would listen that Ariana would not find a man better than her son.
Noah, however, was too focused on Ariana to care about his mother at the moment.
His hands were clenched tightly on his sides and if not for the remnants of his rationality, he would have had Nicolai de Luca kicked off the premises of his mansion.
Mister Killian also glanced at his wife but refrained from commenting anything. He held no interest in his wife as they were nothing more than nominal husband and wife.
Instead, it was Jeremy who winced slightly upon hearing the words of Mrs Nelson. With a glass of champagne in his hand, he made his way towards Mrs Nelson and lightly said,
“Mia, it is considered normal for women and men to come with their friends, family, and colleagues while attending a ball. It’s not good to make remarks whilst being unclear,” Jeremy reminded Mrs Nelson at the same time he warned the gossip mongrels.
It wouldn’t be good for rumours to start and Mrs Nelson’s careless remarks were equivalent to strengthening those rumours.
Mrs Nelson, however, did not understand why Jeremy was saying those words. She thought he was saying such things for the sake of helping Ariana and pursed her lips.
She turned her body sideways such that she could look at Jeremy clearly. Mrs Nelson said to him, “I am not making remarks with evil intent, Jeremy. What you are saying is indeed correct, but a good woman would be wise enough to avoid suspicion.”
“I was——”
“I know that you are thinking about Ariana’s wellbeing,” Mister Adrien was talking to one of his friends when he heard Mrs Mia’s careless remarks and walked over to where his family was standing.
He was smiling, but his eyes held a glare as he said to Mrs Mia, “But she is in her late twenties not late tens. I believe she knows better than you, what’s good for her, hmm?”
This time around even if Mrs Mia wished to act stupid she couldn’t pretend to not understand the warning. She unwillingly closed her lips and no longer made any casual complaints.
Upon seeing that Mrs Mia had closed her mouth, Mister Adrien was satisfied. He walked forward and opened his arms, “My pumpkin. My bubble, I am so happy to see you again.”
Ariana turned her attention to the front and was surprised to see Mister Adrien walk over to where she stood.
“Mister Adrien——”
“You better not start that parade of politeness with me, young lady,” Mister Adrien glared at Ariana with a hint of disapproval. “Considering that my idiotic grandson has done nothing but disappoint you… I believe that I should be blamed for not raising him properly but at the same time, cut this old man some slack.”
“I raised two brats, never thought that the two of them wouldn’t be able to raise one.”
Mister Adrien huffed angrily.
When Ariana saw Mister Adrien in good spirits, her lips curled in a smile as she said to him, “Happy birthday, Grandpa Adrien.”
She let Mister Adrien embrace her as he patted her three times on her back.
“I am so glad to see you happy, Ari,” Mister Adrien spoke emotionally and Ariana’s eyes couldn’t help but turn two degrees softer.

“I am glad to see you healthy and back, Grandpa Adrien,” Ariana let the elderly man hug her as long as he wanted. Beside her Nicolai stayed quiet, even though he did not like Noah Nelson—— he had nothing against Mister Adrien.
Mister Adrien pulled away before turning to look at Nicolai.
“Ah, Mister de Luca! How are you? The last time I saw you was when you were nineteen, you seem to have grown up into a fine young man,” Mister Adrien chortled as he patted Nicolai on the arm.
He turned to look at Ariana and said to her, “Back when he was a teen, he had this gloomy phase. You should have seen him back then, he looked funny as well as terrifying. I never understood how such a miraculous thing was possible.”
“Mister Adrien, happy birthday,” Nicolai interrupted by hugging Mister Adrien lest he start bringing up matters from his past which were considered simply beyond embarrassing.
Mister Adrien, who was suddenly hugged out of nowhere, was stunned before he laughed even more loudly.
“Hahaha, you are still so cute, Nico!” His hand thumped Nicolai four to five times on his back.
Both Nicolai and Ariana handed their gifts to the servants who were responsible for taking the gift boxes.
Mister Adrien watched the servants take away the gifts before he turned to look at Ariana and said to her, “Come with me pumpkin, I have arranged a seat for you on the main table.”
“You cannot do that, father!”
