“You did?” Nicolai raised a brow with a sly grin on his lips, which made Ariel suffocate. She clenched her fingers around the thin stand of the glass which she was holding.

The tips of her fingers started to shiver and tremble as she nodded stiffly while letting a sweet smile play on her lips.

“I did,” Ariel answered with a light flutter of her lashes. “But why are you asking me this question? Did Ari say something to you which made you think otherwise?”

‘What an idiot,’ thought Nicolai with a light snort.

Ariel did not have the slightest bit of idea that there was another little boy who was kidnapped along with Noah.

Unlike Noah, who had come looking for her almost at once, Nicolai had only seen Ariel from afar before deducing she wasn’t the one who saved him.

Thus, the foolish woman believed that Nicolai was only standing up for Ariana, as he seemed to be smitten with her at the moment.

She had no idea that Nicolai knew it wasn’t her or that his testimony counted

Nicolai stared at Ariel, who was smiling at him as if she knew that the entire round was in her hand. He mimicked her smile causing Brandon to flinch.

What? It was horrifying to see a tattooed man the size of a bear smiling sweetly.

“Really? But I know as a matter of fact it wasn’t you,” Nicolai countered while wearing a ——’I know it better than you,’ expression on his face.

Ariel blinked a few times. With an innocent expression, she glanced at Ariana before bringing her hand in front of her mouth. She said, “Did Ari say that it was her? I mean, she did make such claims in the past. But I never thought that she would do such a thing in front of you, Mister de Luca.”

She then turned to look at Ariana. Her instantly turned red as tears filled them, she said to Ariana, “How long are you going to do this, Ari? I mean —— I love you and I have forgiven you for your foolish antics more than once, but you are crossing the line now.”

With a reprimanding expression she harshly continued, “You stole my lover who was my fiancé, but I never said anything. You have ruined everything for me, but I still chose to be the bigger person. How much do I need to give to you for you to stop?”

“Now you are going around telling lies to, Mister de Luca? Don’t you find it embarrassing?” Ariel questioned as if she were furious with Ariana, who was acting like a foolish younger sister. “Even if you don’t, but I do.”

Glynn snorted. She remarked scathingly, “If she had found it embarrassing then she wouldn’t have chosen to come in between you and my brother. A mistress as shameless as her can never find an ounce of embarrassment.”

Even Ryan turned and looked at Ariana before saying, “You are indeed quite shameless, it seems like you have become even more flagrant.”

“Watch what you are saying, Mister Baker,” Leila had been ignoring Ryan, but upon hearing him condemn Ariana, she could no longer stay quiet.

The calm atmosphere around the table snapped and splintered into pieces. Those pieces slashed against Ariana’s skin causing her to wince.

The ink which was lurking beneath Ariana’s feet, started to climb higher and higher until the inky tendrils twisted and turned into large claws.

Those sharp fingers curled themselves around Ariana, making her feel choked up.

‘Run.’

‘Run… I need to run…’ Ariana thought as she panted heavily, finding it difficult to breathe. She knew this was going to happen, the second Nicolai brought up this matter.

“Are you done?” Nicolai smashed the glass on the table. His actions caused the three people to turn quiet even Ariana jumped in her chair and turned to look at Nicolai in surprise.

Ariel turned to look at Nicolai, and she said calmly, “Mister de Luca, I know that you are feeling betrayed, but this has nothing to do with us. It’s Ari who lied to you——”

“Who said that she lied to me?” Nicolai questioned in a sharp voice. “Who the fuck did tell you that she was the one who lied to me? Did a mockingbird tell you? Bring it to me, I will break the beak of that fucking thing.”

His question stole the words right out of Ariel’s mouth.

She curled her lips into a polite smile as Ariel remarked, “If she wasn’t the one who told you then how would you——”

“Because I was fucking there,” Nicolai sneered with a cold expression. “Did you not know this, Miss Savior? I was also kidnapped along with this preppy boy.”

His words stole the breath out of Ariel’s lungs with a whoosh. Ariana, who was having a hard time breathing also raised her head and looked at Nicolai in surprise.

‘He was there? When?’ Ariana thought as her memories rewound themselves. She had to filter her memories of that day bit by bit before she could remember the figure of a small child hiding behind the large barrel.

The little boy who promised her that he would come back.

‘That little boy…it was him?’ Ariana’s eyes widened as she recalled the little boy.

It wasn’t that she had forgotten that little boy, it was just that Nicolai was far too cute as a child that it was nearly impossible for her to compare this gigantic bear with that adorable little boy.

“Impossible!” Ariel murmured, her eyes widening in surprise as she realized that her lie was an inch away from being disclosed. “You—— Mister de Luca, there is no need for you to lie for her. “Do you want me to bring those kidnappers and present them in front of you?” Nicolai asked with a little click of his tongue. “And who are you telling these lies to?
