Chapter 306: She wished for her death
The world was still intact? No, this was not right. It shouldn’t be intact. It should have crashed and burned leaving nothing behind.
Similarly to how her dreams and hopes were crumbling, this world should have burned itself to the ground.
Because at that moment, Ariel did feel as if her heart had stopped beating. Her eyes moved to the clock on the wall that was running without a pause, and she clenched her fingers.
The hours of the clock were still running and so was the world and the ringing alarm that she was hearing had little to do with the world. Most probably it was related to the fear that was coursing in her veins like a second blood.
Ariel drew in a breath and turned to look at Noah. The man was eerily calm, there was no tinge of surprise on his face as he continued to sip on his wine without making a sound.
All of a sudden, Ariel recognized the signs that she had been skipping or ignoring all evening.
The reason Noah was avoiding her, the reason he was not talking to her but was instead paying attention to Ari.
And the reason he chose to kiss Ariana instead of her just now ——-
It was because he knew the truth.
He knew that it wasn’t her who had saved him back then.
“Noah, listen to me——Whatever she has told you, is not the truth,” Ariel agitated stood up from her chair and walked over to where Noah was sitting. Her heart was thumping erratically in her chest, for Ariel was terrified at the moment.
She was not pretending to be scared, but she was genuinely worried. Ariel knew how important Noah was to her, the reason she quickly climbed the stairs of success in the business world was due to this man.
Without Noah —— no, without the Nelson name, she was nothing.
“She never told me anything,” Noah sat the glass of wine on the table. Even though he was speaking to Ariel, he was not looking at her.
He was not even paying any attention to her like she was unworthy of his attention and respect.
“Then why——”
“The girl who saved me was hurt by the kidnapper,” Noah spoke in a calm voice. He finally turned to glance at Ariel before saying, “But you do not have the scars.”
Ariel had always pretended to be scared when he talked about that incident, which was the reason he never brought up the matter of her getting hurt by the kidnapper.
He feared that it would terrify her even more as Ariel was suffering from trauma. He, too, had found his mother almost drowned in the bathtub and knew how hard it was for him to talk or bring up that matter.
Noah understood traumatic reactions and depression, which was why he never brought that matter up. Ariel also won his trust by telling him the littlest detail of the kidnapping and the aftermath.
Who would have thought that the tiniest grain of truth would turn his world upside down?
“S—-Scars?”
“On your back.” Noah suppressed the anger and bitterness bubbling in his body as the memories of how she had made him dance to her tune flooded his mind. “The little girl protected me with her body when I was attacked by the man. Her body received several dagger cuts on her back, but when I saw you in the hospital—— your back was smooth with no trace of any cut or gash.”
All the blood drained out of Ariel’s face as her vision darkened. She stumbled backwards and had to reach out her hand to hold the back of her chair or else she would have fallen on her bottom, causing embarrassment to herself.
Currently, she does not know how to explain her feelings. Her eyes moved back and forth as she mumbled, “Impossible…how—— how it could be possible?”
Back then, she had invited Noah because she wanted to seduce him into making her, his woman. But now Ariel realized that the smart scheme that she came up with,
became the beginning of her doomsday.
She raised her head and looked at Noah before whispering, “…Don’t believe such lies, I am really the one who saved you.”
However, the man remained unmoved causing Ariel to dig her nails in the head of the chair, “Noah, please —— even if these words are true. You and I have been together for so many years. You cannot——”
“We were together because you lied,” Noah interrupted her, causing Ariel to suck in a harsh breath.

She knew that the man was cruel but seeing how effortlessly he broke the connection that they shared for years left Ariel to see Noah in a new light.
Her eyes pooled with tears as she said to him in a hysterical voice, “Be that may be the case, but we have been together, and I have loved and cared for you. How could you wash your hands off our feelings like there was none to begin with?”
“Miss Ariel,” Noah said to her in a freezing voice. “The reason I never reached out to you or confronted you was because of those feelings. I could have ruined your career as well as your name, but I didn’t, isn’t that enough to show that I am showing you enough respect despite the lies you have told.”
“Do you not understand the severity of the lies that were spewed by you?” Noah questioned somberly. “If you hadn’t lied, then I would have not missed out on the woman I thought I had found after waiting for so long.”
Words seemed to fail Ariel as she stared at the man who heartlessly looked at her.
Her heart was splintering and cracking, but Ariel could not bring herself to hate Noah. She was not convinced that it was him who was at fault.
It was Ariana who was the cause of her tragic situation.
She turned and glared at Ariana before saying to her angrily, “Are you happy now? Satisfied? I hate you, why did you not die back then!?”
Ariel sharply cursed at Ariana before turning on her feet and running away with a flushed face.
