Chapter 307: Messed up
Tick.
This was not happening.
Tick.
You are going to be in such big trouble, Ari. Everyone will blame you again for ruining everything. Your mother especially will kill you.
Tick.
The peace that you have hoped for will splinter and crack.
Tick.
Because it had always been you who was at fault.
After Ariel’s departure, the entire table turned silent. No one said a word, causing Ariana to close her eyes as she clenched her fingers and lowered her head.
Of course, the situation turned into a mess because that was what happened every time she was involved in a situation. She, herself, was such a mess so what else could Ariana even expect?
She felt a rush of heat to her head and stood up from the chair on which she was sitting. Ariana said to the rest of the people sitting at the table, “I need to go to the restroom, excuse me.”
Then without waiting for anyone to stop her, she turned on her heels and walked past the table with hurried steps.
While Nicolai and Noah had been confronting Ariel before, Glynn had witnessed how the situation which was leaning towards Ariel from the start abruptly changed course and took a turn for the worse.
“Wh——what do you mean? Why in the world would you say that Ariel was not the one who saved my brother?” Glynn seemed to have heard everything, but at the same time, she didn’t hear anything.
She couldn’t be blamed for reacting like such. For more than fifteen years she had believed that it was Ariel who had protected her brother with her life but all of a sudden the reality that she had believed had been overturned.
“Welcome to earth. Was your trip to La La Land fun?” Nicolai asked the woman sitting five chairs away from him. His gaze was on Glynn, but his attention was on Ariana, ever since she stood up and left the table, Nicolai’s nerves had turned jittery.
‘Is she blaming me for intervening in her matters?’ Nicolai couldn’t help but think with a drop of sweat trickling down the side of his temple.
He wasn’t someone who poked his nose in the business of someone else. In fact, Nicolai had avoided anything too complicated.
Complications led to several sets of troubles, like his parents.
They could have easily avoided the complications that arose in their marriage, and yet, they didn’t which led them to where they were now.
He, who had seen what kind of tragedies could happen if one were to live a life filled with complications, did everything in his power to avoid it.
But Nicolai just couldn’t help himself when he saw Ariel act so righteously in front of Ariana.
“What is that supposed to mean?” Glynn glared at the man, not liking how he was speaking to her.
“I often thought that being a Nelson, you must have inherited at least an ounce of intelligence from your parents,” Nicolai took out a cigar and shoved it in between his lips. He remarked, “Turns out that even the great Nelsons could not escape the curse of having a black sheep in their family.”
His words were as humiliating as they could be and yet, Glynn found herself completely silenced. She was unable to say anything to Nicolai, despite anger bubbling in her chest.
Because at that very moment, quibbling with Nicolai wasn’t relevant. She turned her head to the side so that her gaze met with her brother’s.
Glynn said to Noah, “He is lying isn’t he, brother? There is no way Ariel lied to us for so long. Please—— clarify the matter or Ariel’s reputation might get ruined.”
A low humming sound fell from Nicolai’s lips as he barked out, “Yes. I totally am lying,” he glanced at Glynn whose face had gone pale and remarked cruelly,” Is it so difficult to accept that you were barking at the wrong tree? Fucking childish. I am out of here.”
He stalked to the large glass door on the east. His movements were unhurried and calm while Glynn, who had been rebuked by him, was trembling with rage and humiliation.
“Brother——-”

“It’s true.” Noah only spat out a small phrase, but this small phrase was enough to make Glynn’s world tilt upside down.
At that moment, the surge of feelings that washed over her mind and body was enough to make Glynn sway in her chair.
“Glynn!” Ryan and Brandon caught the young woman before she could fall on the floor and embarrass herself.
“Haha…hahaha….” Glynn chuckled, her laughter was filled with derisive notes as she clapped her hands again and again. She attracted the attention of a few women, but Glynn wasn’t concerned about their gazes.
At that moment, she felt like a clown. Even though she was dressed in the finest clothes and her makeup was as exquisite as a princess, Glynn believed that she was a white face clown with a red round nose.
If not, how could she let someone fool her for years?
In the past, she used to condemn Ariana while believing that she stood on the higher moral ground, but now —— it turned out that she had been acting like a clown while Ariel hid behind her like a ringleader.
“That fucking bitch!” Glynn cursed out loud and no one questioned who she was cursing as everyone knew whom she was referring to. “How dare she make a fool out of me?” Glynn muttered as she stood up on her feet and strode away.
Noah glanced at his sister who was walking away, he didn’t chase after her, instead, he rose to his feet and walked in the same direction in which Nicolai left.
There was something that he needed to say to Nicolai.
Noah had reached the balcony which faced the garden. Pushing the glass doors, he stepped onto the balcony, covered in silvery moonlight.
And in the corner of the balcony stood Nicolai with a burning cigar in between his lips.
