Chapter 320: Ashford Brothers
Away from the Nelson mansion, at the City hospital, Keon arrived with his assistant to see Millie.
Even though his aunt had restricted their visits to see her daughter, Keon, and his brothers would often come to Lonest city without letting their aunt know.
“Will this be alright, Sir?” Dorman asked his boss as the two of them climbed the stairs of the hospital. “If Madam Jeanne found out that you came to visit Miss Millie, she would not be happy with you.”
“Dorman,” Keon sighed. He turned to look at his assistant and remarked in a casual yet stern tone, “Aunt Jeanne has some serious issues that she needs to deal with before she can accept Millie again. From what I can see, she is not making any move to resolve those issues.”
“Do you want me to isolate Millie until then? Not only will it be cruel and unkind, it will also have ill effects on Millie.”
Jeanne Meyer, his paternal aunt, could not accept what happened to her daughter. What she wanted was a perfect daughter who would make her raise her nose high up in the air, not stain her name and that of her husband.
And Millie, who was kidnapped and found in an abandoned building with her body slashed and cut in places that no one should have touched, left Aunt Jeanne heartbroken.
Even though Millie was not harmed in the way everyone expected her to be, Aunt Jeanne could not accept her daughter.
The perfect daughter that she had raised was soiled and ruined until she was broken and flawed.
From then on, Aunt Jeanne pretended as if she had no daughter named Millie and focused all her attention on her youngest daughter, Tonya.
She even stopped them from meeting Millie.
However, Keon had a sick suspicion that the very reason his aunt stopped him and his brothers from seeing Millie was because she blamed their family for what happened to Millie.
Aunt Jeanne thus barred them from seeing Millie in an attempt to hurt their family and at the same time make them feel guilty.
‘Though she was the one who lost her,’ Keon clicked his tongue as he waded his way through the packed corridor.
Dorman watched his boss walk past the teeming corridors, he hesitated before following Keon.
The two men turned left and two right before climbing a flight of stairs as the elevator was out of order. Only then did they arrive at the ward where Millie was admitted.
Keon raised his hand and knocked on the door as he knew that Millie did not like anyone barging inside her room and that habit strengthened even more after she was kidnapped.
“Millie? Are you in there? It’s brother Keon. Can I come inside?” He asked in a soft voice such that he wouldn’t scare Millie.
There was a pause of two minutes before a soft voice answered from inside,
“C—-C—-Come in.”
Keon pushed open the door and stepped inside, his gaze with Millie’s scared one, and he kindly smiled at her.
“Millie, how are you doing sweetheart?” He asked her as he walked closer to Millie but stopped at a small distance away from her bed.
“Fine,” Millie muttered as she glanced at Keon, her eyes flickered to the door of her ward, but she did not see anyone else. The light in her eyes dimmed, and she turned her attention to the sketchbook in front of her.
Keon did not mind her one-syllable answers. He pulled a stool where he was standing and sat down.
He said to her with a gentle expression, “I brought you, your favourite cookies. Your aunt Kay baked them for you.”
With a slight twist of his body, he turned to look at Dorman and stretched out his hand in front of the man.
Realizing what Keon was asking for, Dorman rummaged through the bag that he had brought with him.
He took out a jar of cookies and handed it to Keon who took it from him and turned to look at Millie.
“Here,” Keon stood up to hand the jar to Millie, but the latter immediately scrambled to the end of the bed.
Her eyes stared at him warily.

Seeing the look in her eyes, Keon’s heart started to ache.
However, he did not blame her as he knew that the reason she was reacting like such was due to a man harming her. It was her trauma reacting to a man’s presence and nothing else.
‘If I ever find that man who did this to her, I will kill him by ripping him limb by limb,’ thought Keon as he looked at his terrified cousin.
He reeled back his hand and tried to pull his lips up in a smile. Keon placed the jar down on the table further away from Millie and comforted her, “There is no need to worry, sweetheart. See? I am not getting close to you, I will not hurt you.”
Millie eyed him carefully before crawling out of the corner of the bed where she was hiding.
However, her eyes were fixated on Keon as if she would run out of the ward if he were to get close to her.
Seeing her like this, Keon felt aggrieved and awful, but he would rather not push Millie’s limit by overstaying in her ward.
So, Keon said a few more things to Millie and left the gifts that he had brought with him on the table away from Millie’s ward.
His gaze fell on the sketch that Millie was drawing, and his eyes softened.
‘She still loves mother very much,’ thought Keon as he looked at the half-finished portrait, but as he was leaving the ward, he couldn’t notice a slight detail.
The woman whose sketch Millie was drawing was way younger than his mother.
Millie stared at Keon who stepped out of the ward, once he left, she slid down the bed and tentatively approached the jar of cookies.
With her trembling fingers, she unscrewed the lid of the jar and took out a cookie.
She took a bite of the chocolate chip cookie and started sniffing.
“Aunt Kaylyn… I miss you.”
