Chapter 326: Helpless murmurs, Childhood whispers
Bang! The sound of pot hitting the floor echoed in the kitchen.
‘Ahhh!!’ Glynn screamed in pain as she pulled back her hand which she had deliberately placed in front of the mouth of the pot.
As the mushroom soup fell out of the pot, her hand got lightly scalded and her skin turned red. She raised her head and was pleased to see Ariana’s face turning pale.
‘What happened?’ Mrs Mia rushed into the kitchen at once when she heard her daughter scream. Her gaze fell on Ariana, the fallen pot and then at Glynn who was cradling her scalded hand. ‘Glynn! Oh my god, what happened to you?’
Glynn sniffed as she turned to look at her mother with tears in her eyes. She was not pretending as it truly hurt.
Halfway through she wanted to ask her mother to call for a doctor but when she recalled Ariel’s words and tears, she gritted her teeth and continued with her plan.
‘Mom, it’s nothing,’ Glynn said through tearful eyes. ‘I was the one who annoyed Ari. I shouldn’t have said that the soup lacked salt and pepper, and could not be served to the guests.’
Her soft cries and whimpers made the guests who had followed Mrs Mia look at Ari with reproachful gazes.
‘This— This is not correct!’ Ariana spoke agitated. She looked around the kitchen fearfully and spoke the truth, ‘Glynn deliberately pushed the pot… I didn’t do it.’
However, who would be foolish enough to believe that someone deliberately harmed themselves all for the sake of framing someone?
‘Go back to your room, I will handle this matter later on,’ Mrs Mia spoke to Ariana, looking at her with a gaze filled with disgust.
She might be stern with her daughter but in the end, Glynn was her daughter and no one else was supposed to hurt her.
‘Mother—’
‘Did you not hear what I said? Go back into your room now, Ariana!’ Mrs Mia raised her voice at Ariana whose words were interrupted and were left unspoken. Mrs Mia then turned to look at the guests and smiled at them apologetically.
She said to them, ‘I am sorry. She has always been problematic.’
‘It’s alright, Mrs Nelson,’ a woman snidely snickered. She looked at Ariana whose complexion was getting worse by the second and jeered nastily, ‘Women who come from lowly backgrounds are known to be petty, ungrateful, and selfish. How can we expect the same class from them as our daughters?’
‘Pity that your son had to marry one such woman.’
‘How shameful. Just a few words and she tilted the entire pot on her sister-in-law? Glynn is fortunate that she escaped with just a scalded hand.’
‘Mrs Nelson, you should take your daughter to the daughter. Even though the burn is mild, we cannot leave it untreated.’
And while everyone spoke in favour of Glynn and condemned Ariana— Glynn turned and looked at Ariana who kept repeating,
‘I didn’t do it.’
‘Please believe me.’
‘I really had nothing to do with it.’
As Glynn snapped out of the memory of that day, she looked at her family members who were looking at her in the same manner as the friends of her mother had looked at Ariana.
As thrilled as she had felt that very day, Glynn felt just as awful now.
She finally tasted how it felt when someone was innocent but everyone still treated them as if they were sinners.
“Glynn, how could you do it?” Mrs Mia felt her heart jump, and she suddenly blanched. Not because she was worried or concerned about Ariana’s safety but because if that woman lost her value, Master Roman would certainly not leave her alone.
Especially if the matter was related to her daughter.
She turned to look at Noah and questioned, “Is Miss Harlow alright? Why did you not bring her back? We have enough spare rooms for her to stay.”
Noah turned to look at his mother who seemed to be concerned about Ariana. He furrowed his brows, and replied, “She has gone back home safe and sound.” With whom he did not tell his family as he was worried about them gossiping about Ariana.

His mother especially would certainly not leave the opportunity to degrade Ariana.
Mrs Mia heaved a sigh of relief and patted her chest with her right hand. She then turned to look at Glynn, her eyebrows were deeply furrowed in anger and as she looked at her daughter, small flames ignited in her eyes.
She walked over to where Glynn was standing and questioned, “Is this what I have taught you? No matter how much you despise and dislike her, how could you make a joke out of a woman’s reputation and virtue? Do you even know how valuable a woman’s body is?”
Ariana’s virtue was worth their entire family! If it could be ruined for pennies, why would she work so hard to deepen the misunderstanding between her son and Ariana?
As she spoke she reached out and held Glynn’s wrist in a tight grip causing Glynn to wince in pain.
“Mom, I really did not do it,” Glynn sobbingly spoke. “I really did not want to harm, Ari. I swear — please believe me. I indeed sent the first message, but I regretted it … I wanted to stop the thugs, but I couldn’t find my phone. And I—”
“Shut up! How dare you make excuses!” Mrs Mia raged as she pulled Glynn along with her.
Glynn, realizing what her mother was doing and where she was taking her, panicked. Her eyes widened in shock and fear as she turned to look at Noah.
She cried and begged with her brother hoping that he would save her, “Noah! Brother Noah. Please stop mother. Please, please stop her. I know I was wrong, but I will not do it again. Please don’t let her punish me.”
Noah however, frowned. He thought that Glynn was exaggerating. He said to her, “There is no need to overreact. Instead of pretending all the time, you might as well try to become a better person.”
Pretending? Noah believed that she was pretending.
