Chapter 327: Dearest Mother
***********************************
Indeed, Glynn pretended a lot after all, if she stopped pretending she would break like a tower of blocks.
She stared at her brother who heartlessly looked back at her and all the fight in her heart disintegrated at once. Glynn allowed herself to be dragged by her mother, without struggling even in the slightest.
Mrs Mia dragged Glynn to a small room which was at the far end of the corridor of the Nelson mansion.
This room had always been locked up, as the key was with Mrs Mia, and she had never handed the key to this room to anyone.
And as the room was at the quieter side of the mansion, no one came to this place.
“Mom, please—” Glynn begged as she fearfully stared at the door of the room.
“Silence, Glynn,” Mrs. Mia took out the key which she carried with her all the time. She unlocked the lock and pushed the door open, once the door was opened— Mrs Mia pushed Glynn inside the room.
She glanced at Glynn contemptuously and stated coldly, “I cannot expect anything from you. However, I thought that at least acting like a decent woman was something that you could have done.”
“Mom, Mom… Please don’t leave me here!” Glynn scrambled to her feet and tried to stop her mother, but she was a step too late.
The door closed, and a mechanical voice echoed in the room.
“You are so useless.”
“You are a disappointment to your parents, Glynn.”
“A little spoiled brat who cannot even pass her exams.”
“Stop being a disappointment to your parents and do something about your useless actions.”
“Glynn, the least you can do is listen to your mother.”
“How can someone be as stupid as you? Have you seen your face? It looks ugly when you curse at someone, Glynn. Be more elegant and classy.”
“Glynn you are not as clever as you think you are— in fact, you are so foolish that a buffoon would look smarter in front of you.”
“I, as your mother, have only felt disappointment two times in my life. One was when I lost a beauty pageant, and the second time was when I gave birth to you, Glynn.”
“How can you be so useless, Glynn? You have everything and yet, you are still a failure. As your mother, I feel ashamed. If only you were not my daughter, I would have a perfect life.”
“Open the door!” Glynn banged at the door. She screamed as she knocked on the cushioned door which made it impossible for the noises to leak through the gaps. “Open it! I will be good! Mom, I will listen to you, please open the door. Please don’t let me hear these things! Mom! Please!”
However, no matter how hard she screamed, no one opened the door and the voice in the room continued to blast at full volume.
“You fell for a boy with nothing to his name, Glynn? You are a disgrace.”
“If you are going to scheme, at least think before you do. With your pea-sized brain, do you think you can do anything, Glynn?”
“Mom—please,” Glynn knelt on the floor slowly, her nails scratching the white cushioned door. The new scratches joined the old ones as she sobbed. “Please open the door, Mom.”

It had to be a dream.
There was no way it was real.
But as Ariana sipped on the third cup of coffee, she realized that it was not a dream.
No matter how much she tried to convince herself that she was probably imagining things and that she couldn’t have possibly done something so shameful, that too in a public setting— where anyone could have seen her.

The truth remained, that she did not have a dream.
Not even a little. It wasn’t even close to being a dream.
Ariana brought her hand to her head and rubbed her forehead to nurse the throbbing headache.
“Doctor Harlow?” A nurse called Ariana raised her head and looked at the woman who came to look at her.
Ariana brought her hand down and questioned the nurse, “What’s the matter, is a patient asking for me?”
The nurse hesitated and after a short while, she answered Ariana, “Doctor Harlow, there is someone who has called at the hospital landline. She wishes to talk to you.”
Ariana frowned when she heard that someone had called the hospital’s landline. However, she still nodded and stood up from the chair on which she was sitting. “Let’s go, Naomi,” she said to the nurse, who heaved a sigh of relief.
“Believe me, Doctor Harlow. I would not have called you but this woman, who says that she is your mother keeps calling and because of her, we are missing important calls,” Naomi said to Ariana fretfully, who seemed to have already guessed who was behind the calls.
With an apologetic expression, Naomi added, “She is disrupting the usual routine.”
“I am truly sorry about this,” Ariana said to Naomi, who waved her hand dismissively.
“It is not your fault,” Naomi casually remarked with a smile. “Who doesn’t have a few bad days?”
Ariana smiled back at Naomi as the two women walked over to the nurse station. Once Ariana reached the station, she picked up the receiver of the landline phone and brought it to her ear.
“What do you want to say?” She spoke coldly, the warmth and politeness with which she had spoken to Naomi was replaced with frigid derision and disregard.
“You wretched girl,” a low hissing voice came from the other side of the receiver.
Naomi, who had just picked up the pen to note down something, almost dropped it when she heard the malicious note in Mrs Harlow’s voice.
She… did she not say that she was Doctor Harlow’s mother? What kind of mother greeted her daughter like such?
Naomi peeked at Ariana and was surprised to see that the woman looked completely unbothered by what and how her mother spoke to her.
It made Naomi wonder what kind of life Ariana had while growing up.
