Chapter 335: No money, no Treatment
At the City Hospital,
Ariana was washing her hands under the cold water after helping Aiden with the heart transplant surgery. She had been standing on her feet for more than ten hours, and every bone in her body was crying in pain.
Though the work was tiring, it was rewarding as well. Ariana had never seen any doctor being as articulate, calm, and skilled in a surgery room as Aiden.
Even though they almost lost the patient, Aiden remained calm until the vitals of the patient were back to normal.
‘I hope I will become like him one day,’ Ariana thought while looking at her reflection in the mirror.
“Please, at least look at her!” Ariana had raised her hands in the air and was about to head over to the automatic dryer to dry her hands when she heard a man’s pleading voice.
Frowning, she dried her hands before heading in the direction from where the voices were coming from.
“I have already told you, that if you don’t have the money to pay for your mom’s treatment, there is no point in begging in front of us. We are doctors, not charity organizers,” Daphne huffed while looking at the man who was holding the hand of his elderly mother who was lying on the stretcher coughing harshly.
Her words brought a murmur of agreement as Ariana walked over to where the crowd had gathered. She frowned upon hearing the words of Daphne as she did not agree with her words.
True that they were all working here to earn money, showing necessary kindness, wasn’t wrong either.
“What’s going on here?” She asked.
“Oh look at this, who is here,” Daphne spoke in a jeering voice as she turned and looked at Ariana who was standing behind her. “The messiah, are you here to save this poor guy?”
“Daphne, I believe that as a doctor, we all have the responsibility to save people who are in need. Irrespective of the fact if they can pay or not,” Ariana glanced at the woman who was sneering at her. “If you cannot understand something so simple, then you might as well go back and learn the ethics of being a doctor.”
“Doctor Harlow—”
“Miss Ariana!”
Before Daphne could finish speaking, the man who was pleading with the doctors, turned around upon hearing the familiar voice.
“Regal?” Ariana was surprised to see Regal standing in front of her. She had not expected to see him here. “What’s wrong?”
“Miss Harlow, can you help my mom?” Regal asked with a pleading voice.
“My—my chest! I cannot breathe!” The elderly woman coughed while trying her best to breathe through her mouth.
Ariana turned her attention to look at the woman who was coughing. Her brows furrowed as she walked over to where Regal’s mother was lying, she placed her hand on the chest of the woman to examine the crux of her condition.
“She is suffering from heart failure,” said Daphne confidently. “However, this man right here has no money to—”
“Who told you that it’s a heart failure?” Ariana turned to look at the woman who was spouting whatever that came to her mind. She didn’t wait for Daphne’s answer, instead, she turned to look at the doctor next to her and said to him, “I need the stethoscope now.”
“But—”
“What do you mean by but? Can you not see that there is a life on the line here?” Ariana snapped as she snatched the stethoscope from the man.
She put it on rushing and then opened the buttons of Kaitlyn’s shirt and then placed the stethoscope on her bosom. Gingerly, she pressed the stethoscope on Kaitlyn’s skin.
After a while, Daphne, who was interrupted by Ariana, could not stop herself and sneered. “Wasn’t I right? It’s heart failure, right? Since this man doesn’t have the money to pay for the surgery, what could we do? You were blaming us for no reason—”
“It’s tension pneumothorax,” before Daphne could finish speaking, Ariana announced the result of her examination. “The excess air is pressing down on her heart which is why she is going into shock and feeling pain in her chest.”
“Impossible!” Daphne snapped but Ariana did not have the opportunity to worry about the blow she had delivered to the woman’s ego.
She turned to look at the nurses and said to them, “Please bring me a few syringes and disinfectants.”
“What?” Everything happened so quickly that even the nurses could not understand what was happening.

Just now Daphne said that the woman was having heart failure but now Ariana was saying that the woman had a tension pneumothorax?
“Hurry! If we do not hurry then this woman would end up dying. There is still time to save her,” Ariana said to the nurses. “Bring the thickest syringe.”
The nurses hesitated but eventually, they followed Ariana’s orders. What if the woman really died? In case it turned out to be pneumothorax, then they would be punished for not dealing with the situation appropriately.
“Here!” Naomi returned with the thickest syringe that she could find at the moment.
“Hold her down,” Ariana said to Regal, who nodded and followed her orders.
Once the woman was stabilized, Ariana placed the end of the syringe on the neck of the woman. Once everything was in position, Ariana heaved a breath and pressed it against her throat and chest.
“Eek!”
“What do you think you are doing!”
“You do not have the authority to do such a thing!”
Despite the screams behind her, Ariana did not stop what she was doing. She pulled the end of the syringe causing the air that was trapped to be released.
“Cough! Cough.” Kaitlyn started coughing again but this time she no longer looked in as much pain as she had earlier.
For a few seconds, only the sound of Kaitlyn’s coughing echoed in the corridor before the sound of hurried footsteps came from behind.
“What—what did you do?” Aiden asked as he came to a stop in front of the stretcher. He just went to take a small nap after the long surgery, what happened when he was gone?
