Chapter 336: Have a cookie
“It was her!” Daphne pointed at Ariana at once. “I asked her not to touch the patient, but she refused to listen.”
Ariana frowned and turned to look at Daphne. She suddenly felt a rush of annoyance creep and glue to her heart. She clenched her fingers and retorted coldly, “Isn’t it because of your incapability? You were standing right here and yet, you did not diagnose the patient properly.”
“Clearly, it was the case of tension pneumothorax. If you had helped the patient instead of demanding the patient’s family to pay first then you would have assessed that the air from her lungs was filling the pleural space until it started to compress her heart and lungs.”
“Without immediate care, the patient would have died! Did you expect me to stand here like an onlooker?”
“Doctor Harlow,” Cole walked over to where Daphne and Ariana were standing. His gaze fell on Daphne whose cheeks were flamed red, and she looked thoroughly humiliated and embarrassed. “I know that Doctor Daphne made a mistake, but you need to be a bit subtle and polite as well.”
“Subtle? Will subtlety save the life of someone or will it bring back someone who had lost their life due to the negligence of the doctors? Doctor Cole?” Ariana asked as she looked at Cole over Aiden’s shoulders. “We all know that without immediate care this patient would have died.”
“Doctor Daphne was just trying to follow the protocol—”
“Which are only required at the time of surgery,” Ariana countered smoothly. She seemed rather short-tempered as she stated, “The sudden shortness of breath and a little examination was all that was needed. Even if she was following the protocols, she should have done it after examining the patient properly.”
“Or are you saying that even examining an emergency patient without a payment is against the protocol?” Ariana sharply asked.
She then glanced around and turned to Cole again, “As for being polite and respectful, I will be honest Doctor Cole. Someone quick to dump the blame on my head, despite making a wrong examination, is not worth my respect.”
“Doctor Ariana—”
“Alright that will be enough,” Doctor Stoll walked past the crowd and looked at everyone. “I think we all need to calm down and let the patient breathe, okay?”
He glanced at Kaitlyn who was lying on the stretcher and smiled gently before saying, “I will take care of the expenses of this patient’s treatment as an apology and compensation for the mistakes committed by our hospital’s doctors.”
“Doctor Stoll, but—”
“Doctor Daphne,” Doctor Stoll interrupted the woman before she could say anything else. He looked straight into her eyes and remarked, “Let us end this matter right here. It will be too troublesome if this matter alerts the directors. Will it not?”
Daphne pursed her lips. She was not willing to let the matter slide as Ariana had disrespected her. She was her senior at the hospital and Ariana should have been polite to her.
“Alright, I understand,” Daphne agreed as she indeed couldn’t let the directors be informed about her inept actions.
However, as she turned on her feet, she did not forget to glare at Ariana. Cole followed her after exhaling a sigh.
“Doctor Aiden, I will leave the matter of her treatment in your hands,” Doctor Stoll said to Aiden. He then turned to look at Ariana before saying, “Doctor Harlow, would you like to come with me? There is something that I wish to talk to you about.”
Ariana was confused by Doctor Stoll’s request, but she nodded and followed him as he led her past the crowd and to his office.
Somewhere it made her nervous as she had a feeling that whatever Doctor Stoll had to say to her was something severe.
The two of them arrived at the small office that belonged to Doctor Stoll.
“Sit,” Doctor Stoll said to Ariana as he tipped his head to the chair in front of his table. Ariana hesitated before sitting down on the chair.
Doctor Stoll then pushed a jar which had chocolate cookies. He said to Ariana, “Have a cookie, Doctor Harlow.”
“What?” Ariana was certain that she had misheard Doctor Stoll but that was until he sat down on his own chair and smiled at her. He said to her, “Go on and have a cookie. I can see that you need it.”
Ariana did not understand what the man meant by saying that she needed a cookie. But she still listened to what Doctor Stoll said to her, she picked up a cookie from inside the jar and took a bite from it.
“Do you feel better now, Doctor Harlow?” Doctor Stoll asked as he looked at Ariana.
“I was feeling alright to begin with, Doctor Stoll,” Ariana answered while munching on the cookie.
Hearing her response, Doctor Stoll smiled at her. He shook his head and stated, “No you weren’t. I noticed that you seemed more agitated than usual. Did you not notice it?” He asked politely.
“I didn’t,” Ariana answered honestly. It was only then did she realised that she indeed felt a bit more tetchy than usual.

“Did something lead to your emotions getting out of control?” Doctor Stoll asked and Ariana pursed her lips.
Her mind went back to the sinful indulgence that she had experienced with Nicolai, but soon she scraped off that notion. Her emotional turbulence started way before Nicolai laid her hands on her.
What happened in the resting room with Ariel was enough evidence to prove that.
“If I may advise, try to avoid the cause of this emotional fluctuation,” Doctor Stoll advised her when he noticed that Ariana was keeping quiet instead of answering his question.
“But I have no idea what led to it,” Ariana replied, offering him a bewildered expression.
“It could be anything, Doctor Harlow. As I told you, emotions are volatile. It’s foolish to believe that you or anyone else could control them. You can at most suppress them, but they are bound to make an appearance when you expect them the least.”
“As you have always suppressed your anger, sadness, and fear… your condition is much more sensitive than the rest,” Doctor Stoll spoke calmly. “In fact, I was expecting such a thing to happen.”
