Chapter 343: Bold and Spoiled (2)
“Ouch!” Penelope gasped in pain as soon as her bottom made contact with the hard ground underneath her feet.
Instinctively, Penelope had stretched out her hands to support her body. Her hands scraped the gravelly floor and her tender skin turned red before tearing.
Blood oozed out from the minor scratches, but these little injuries were enough to make Penelope shed some tears.
Because more than her hands, her heart hurt more. Nicolai could have helped her just now, but he didn’t instead he watched her fall.
The look in his eyes was so cold that it terrified Penelope and at the same time, it enraged her.
Why was he treating her like such over a woman who means nothing? Who couldn’t even help him in ways that he needed?
She had investigated Ariana thoroughly and a prim and proper woman like her was not well-matched with Nicolai in any way possible. Unlike her, Ariana could never satisfy Nicolai.
After all, with how she behaved, Penelope was certain that there was no way Ariana would willingly kneel on the ground and let Nicolai treat her lecherously.
Nicolai being a man with insatiable desires could never be satisfied by women like Ariana. Those words which she had told herself again and again provided Penelope with the confidence that she required.
She raised her head and parted her red lips.
“Nico, what are you trying to do—” she began, but Penelope didn’t even get a chance to finish her sentence as a second later, Nicolai crouched down and sat on the balls of his heels.
“You are asking me this? Am I the one who brought an army of men? I should be the one who should ask you what the hell you are trying to do!” He levelled Penelope with a look and questioned in a cold voice, “You better have a very, excellent explanation for this, Penelope. So, out with it. What exactly were you trying to do?”
“I—That…”
“She wants my heart,” Ariana spoke from behind. Aiden had supported her, and she had walked over to where Nicolai was crouching.
She glanced at Penelope who was stumbling over her words and helped her in finishing her confession.
“Heart?” Nicolai furrowed both of his brows, and it was the mark of how ruthless Penelope’s desires were, that even Nicolai didn’t seem to understand what the woman was trying to do.
He turned to look at Penelope and remarked, “This is no way to win one’s heart and even if it is, you need to get in the line—”
“Literally,” Ariana sighed and corrected the man who seemed to have taken her words in another manner. “She wants my heart in the literal sense.”
Nicolai whipped his head and looked at Ariana, his eyes flickered. Ariana noticed shock, confusion, and anxiety before it settled on anger.
He turned around so harshly that the hair tie that was holding his shoulder length ended up flying to the other side of the parking lot, as it slipped from the strands of his hair due to the force.
“Have you gone fucking crazy, Penelope?” Nicolai tried to control his voice but couldn’t. His harsh words turned into a shriek as he glared at Penelope. “Were you trying to kidnap her and take her heart out of her body forcefully? Please say that you were not trying to do what I think you were trying to do.”
Penelope glared at Ariana, seemingly upset with her actions of tattling. She turned to look at Nicolai before answering in a stubborn voice, “I was not going to kidnap her, I offered her ten million dollars in exchange for her heart and she refused.”
Her tone was whiny as if it were Ariana’s fault for not agreeing with her suggestions.
There was a long pause, one that made Ariana step closer to Aiden as the chill that spread was rather cold and then —
“Are you hearing what you are saying?” Nicolai questioned Penelope through gritted teeth. He needed to speak with his mother asap. There was something that he needed to ask her very much.
He wanted to ask if it was still unmanly to slap a woman who deserved it very much.
Nicolai sucked in a sharp breath before saying, “Do you think and understand what kind of words you are going to say, or do you just say whatever nonsense that comes to your head?”
“What do you mean by nonsense?” Penelope felt hurt when she saw that Nicolai didn’t take her weak heart and sickness seriously. “I am just trying to survive! What’s wrong with it? Do you expect me to sit still and wait for death quietly?”
“No, I bloody don’t expect that,” Nicolai snapped, his eyes alive with malice and anger. “But I also bloody do not expect you to go around forcing people to become a live donor for you.”
“There is nothing wrong with trying to survive, Penny,” chimed Aiden from the side. There was a deep frown settled between his brows. “But your means of survival seems a bit too harsh, don’t you think so? How can you ask for someone to give up on their life for you?”

Penelope stared at Aiden with an expression full of disbelief. She scoffed, “It’s easy for you to say. You have a normal body and a normal heart! You can do anything that you want to do without worrying about anything!”
“Me on the other hand? I need to think twice before even eating a slice of cake. You promised me that you would get me a heart transplant in six months, Aiden. It has been more than a year— so of course I will take matters into my own hands.”
“And you think that justifies what you did?” Ariana asked with a frown.
“It doesn’t?” Penelope questioned Ariana back. “You might think that I was being cruel but the truth is that I was giving you the easy way out. Do you think that it’s going to be easy for a woman of your origins to pay back ten million dollars?”
“You will die anyway under the weight of the debt that you carry then you might as well die for a great cause. Aren’t you a doctor? It’s your responsibility to save the lives of patients like me. So why are you refusing to do your responsibility?”
