Chapter 366: Hand her over to Police?
“Penny, I can hear you just fine without you screaming at the top of your lungs,” said Mister Ashford with a frown on his face. With his fingers, he pinched the space between his brows and stated, “So please stop screaming, you are causing disturbance for everyone.”
Kaylyn, who stood behind her husband, silently gazed at her daughter who seemed agitated and angry. The more she looked at Penelope, the less Kaylyn saw herself in her.
“If you can hear me then why are you not doing anything, Daddy?” Penelope demanded. Her teeth were gritted so hard that she had to wrench them apart through sheer force. “You need to ask Aunt Inez for an explanation. What does Nico mean by this? Is he trying to start a fight with the Ashford family now?”
Earlier this morning before she could even stop Keon, her elder brother sent her to the airport and asked her to go back with his assistant.
Despite all the begging and pleading, Keon didn’t budge and literally had her stuff on the flight and brought it back to Clover City.
If this wasn’t enough to ruin her day, a car came hurtling from the wrong lane and smashed right into her car.
“I am lucky that I am even alive, Dad!” Penelope’s eyes met with Theodore’s. She saw him looking at her grimly, which confused her. “That car smashed right into mine. It almost pushed me off the mountainous road if not for the railings. If the impact had caused them to break, then I would have fallen into the sea.”
“This was a murderous attempt! I demand to see some punishment.”
“Then you should have listened to your mother and me,” said Theodore in a voice so calm that it sounded as if he was singing a lullaby. “I asked you again and again to not provoke Nico. He is not the kind of man you want or should even think of marrying.”
He paused and closed his eyes before exhaling heavily, “I have heard everything from Keon. You were the one who made the first move, why did you go on attacking his lover?”
“I didn’t know that she was his lover—”
“Then it is even worse, Penny!” Theo raised his voice as he dropped his hand from his face. “Do you even know how ludicrous it sounds? Attacking an innocent woman for what reason? That you wanted to forcefully take her heart. Never, even in my wildest dreams, did I think that you would do something so horrendous.”
“Others would have overlooked these actions of yours because a jealous woman in love indeed does some foolish things —but the fact that you wanted to kidnap that poor girl because of your selfishness is downright disgusting.”
Hearing her father’s words, Penelope’s face hardened and she clenched her teeth. She watched her father and asked, “Are you calling me disgusting, Dad?”
“I am calling your actions disgusting,” Theodore said in a hard voice. “Don’t go putting words in my mouth now, Penny. Your mother and I did not raise you to act like this, to commit absolutely horrifying crimes. We raised you with elegance and kindness, and we also taught you to forward the very same things to others as well.”
“From where did you learn to commit murder?”
“It was not a murder, Dad!” Penelope exclaimed with frustration bubbling in her heart. “I was paying her, she is in debt, and I was just trying to help her out—”
“Penny, did that woman ask you to help her?” Kaylyn asked sharply. “Did she say to you that she needed your help?”
“No, Mom but you see—”
“Then there is nothing to see or hear, Penny,” Kaylyn shook her head with disappointment written on her face. “A forced help is nothing more than coercion and manipulation. You were trying to —I don’t even know what you were trying to do, Penny. Your father and I are doing our best to get you the treatment you need, so why did you do this?”
Her voice was laden with dismay.
Penelope felt frustrated and angry. She balled the sheet on her body in her fingers and snapped angrily, “Why are you two standing up for that woman? She has nothing to do with this matter, the injuries I received are more severe than her. So why are you losing your temper with me?”
“Penny, listen to your words! This situation that you are in currently is due to your actions,” Theodore said to her, he tried to explain to Penelope that every wrong action had its consequences. “If you had not gone out of your way to harm someone, then you wouldn’t be in this condition.”
“Dad, you too? Are you choosing that woman as well? You are going to stand up for her instead of me?” Penelope asked.
“I am not choosing anyone, Penny. What are you talking about?” Theodore asked with an annoyed voice. “What is wrong with you?” He questioned while eyeing his daughter, who seemed to be becoming more and more like a stranger. “I am just trying to explain to you that you shouldn’t hurt anyone for your own gain, Penny.”
“You are the Ashford’s family daughter, you have some responsibilities that you need to fulfil and carry. You are lucky that nothing happened to that girl, or we would have to call the police.”
“P—police?” Penelope repeated while staring at her father like he had gone mad. “You would have called the police on me?”
There was silence after she finished speaking, but it wasn’t the usual kind of silence. There was an air of unease in the room as Penelope stared at her father, who stared right back at her. She was hoping for him to refute, but Theodore looked faintly annoyed,
“Of course I would!” He said with a snort. “I haven’t raised you to become a murderer! If one of my children does and dares to commit a crime, it doesn’t matter whether it’s Keon, Mateo, Emil or you, Penny. I will hand you over myself because I am no father of a murderer.”
Theodore said those words because he wanted Penny to understand her wrongdoing and regret what she had done. As a father, he wanted his daughter to walk on the right path. He wanted her to show remorse.

However, to Penny who knew that she didn’t share even an ounce of blood with Theodore and Kaylyn, it sounded like a threat. Maybe her parents never took her as their own—perhaps they knew in their hearts that she wasn’t theirs.
