Chapter 374: The Cruel Truth
In a large mansion, on the west of the Lonest City, one of the security guards pushed Ari inside a bedroom. When she had woken up, Ari had tried her best to escape but to no avail, Ariel had kicked her again and again on her wound until the fight in Ari’s body vanished.
Ari covered her wound, which had started to bleed again. She raised her head and looked at Ariel, who seemed rather smug upon seeing her pitiful condition.
“Why?” Ari asked with a grim expression. Her eyes filled with hatred. She recognized this place better than anyone. “Why did you do it?”
Ariel let out a bark of disbelieving laughter. She turned her head to the side before rolling her eyes and then twisted her neck such that she was looking at Ari again.
“Why? Do you even have to ask?” She said with her arms crossed in front. “You ruined everything, Ari. I could have become Mrs Nelson. I could have lived the life which I dreamed of, but you—your very existence ruined everything.”
“Do you even know Noah, is not even speaking with me!” Ariel said in an angry voice. “He is refusing to meet me and doesn’t even pick up my calls. I knew I should have done this before, I should have sent you ages ago. But mom refused, she told me that we have to keep you close.”
She scoffed. “A real good thing it did to me.”
As Ari listened to Ariel’s words, panic surged inside her heart. There was something weird about the way Ariel said that they had to keep her with them. Why would they have to keep her? She was one of them, wasn’t she?
“I didn’t do anything,” exclaimed Ari. “It is you who ran away and refused to marry a man who was going to go bankrupt. Why am I being blamed? It is not my fault that Noah found out the truth, either.”
SLAP!
Ari felt a stinging sensation spread all over her left cheek. She blinked her eyes and slowly raised her head, her hand cupping the cheek that had been slapped.
“Not your fault? Not your fault?” Ariel shrieked shrilly. She looked wild, almost crazy. “Your very existence is at fault, Ari! You should have died when you were kidnapped or maybe when you were taken away by the human traffickers.”
“You were never supposed to come back, if you hadn’t, then nothing like this would have happened.”
Ari didn’t let Ariel’s negative words affect her. She raised her voice and snapped,
“What do you mean by that? Why shouldn’t I have come back? Because of you, should I give up on my life? Do you even hear what you are saying—”
“Yes!” Ariel glared at her. She said to Ari, “This is what you owe me. Ever since we were children, I was always the second best.”
“Never once was I praised by anyone because they only had you in their eyes,” Ariel spat spitefully. “Regardless of what I did, it was never enough according to others. Oh! did you hear? The youngest daughter of the Harlows won the first prize. The youngest won the Olympiad, have you heard about it?”
“Oh, she is getting prettier day by day…soon she is going to look even more beautiful than her sister. Did you hear? That woman who brought a proposal for the eldest wanted the younger one to marry her son.”
“What about me? Huh? What about me?’ Ariel shouted while pointing at herself. “I also ranked second in the class. Why did no one praise me? Why did they not talk about the drama competition that I won?”
“And being pretty,” Ariel cut herself off with a wobble of her lips. “It is not my fault. It is not my fucking fault that you look prettier than me.”
“Just because of that—” Ari began with disbelief etched on her face.
“Hah! Just because of that?” Ariel hatefully sneered. “You wouldn’t be saying this if it were you who had to live in my shadow all your life. Do you know how suffocated I felt whenever I was compared to you?”
“You have to be kidding me,” Ari muttered while looking at the woman standing in front of her. “I am your sister, Ariel! How can you—how can you hate me so much that you would bring me here, of all places?” She yelled in anger and hatred.
Her face was scrunched up in pain.
No matter what the two of them were sisters, how could Ariel bring her here of all places?
This place had haunted Ari for years.
She just couldn’t believe that for such a petty reason Ariel would do something like this—just how could there be such a feud between sisters?
“Ah, that’s the thing you see?” Ariel stated as she crouched down and came to eye level with Ari. “You are not my sister.”
Silence filled the room, and Ari stared at Ariel before scoffing in disbelief, “I know that you don’t accept me as your sister, but there is no need—”
“Oh no, no,” Ariel wriggled her finger in front of Ari’s face. “You are wrong, I am not saying this out of spite. It is the truth, you are not my sister. You share no blood relationship with me or our parents.”

“Haven’t you sensed it already?” Ariel reached out and clasped Ari’s chin with her fingers. “The reason our—no, my mother treated you so differently? It is because you are not her daughter.”
Ari could feel her heart tearing up, the pain deepened and twisted until her stomach was in knots and her mind stopped functioning. She said,
“You are lying.” The words she uttered were filled with nothing but bitterness and pain.
Ariel grasped her chin harder before chuckling in awe, “Aww, are you feeling hurt? But no. I am not lying, I am telling the truth. Not only am I telling the truth, but I can also show it to you.”
She took out a DNA report from her jacket’s pockets and threw it at Ari’s face.
“I was quite surprised when mom said that she has sold you off —so, I decided to investigate a little and that’s when it struck me. You are not—never one of us.” She smiled with relish.
