Chapter 376: Tangled Emotions
As soon as those words rang in Nicolai’s ears, he swore something exploded inside of him. His very existence seemed to be against that very idea.
“Nico,” Inez turned him around so that he was looking her in the eye. “You need to promise me that you will get rid of this woman. I am not against you dating anyone but if she is provoking you in ways you shouldn’t be provoked then she needs to go.”
“I cannot let anyone provoke you.”
“I—I got it.”
“You do? Does that mean that you will send her away?”
“Yeah.”
“Promise me, Nico,” said Inez as she held Nicolai by his arms. “I have lost everyone dear to me. I cannot lose you too.”
“Yeah, mom. I promise.”
“Good,” his mother released a sigh of relief. “I love you, Nico. You are my light and life. Don’t lose yourself regardless of what.”
“I love you too, Mom,” Nicolai hugged his mother before rising from the couch. He strode out of his room, however as soon as he pushed open the doors, he ran into Zena.
“Zen?” Nicolai was surprised when he bumped into Zena who was standing in front of the door. He held out his hands to steady his sister before asking, “What are you doing here?”
“I came to hand the budget report to Mother,” replied Zena as she raised the stack of papers in her hands.
“I see—”
“Did Ariana provoke you?” Before Nicolai could finish speaking, Zena interrupted him causing him to pause and stare at her in surprise.
He scowled and asked, “Were you eavesdropping?”
“No, I just didn’t get the right time to knock on the door,” refuted Zena.
“So you were eavesdropping,” Nicolai rubbed the back of his head. “It’s nothing like you think, I have things in control.”
“If you did then you wouldn’t be losing control like this, Nico,” Zena countered. “Mom is right, she needs to go.” She didn’t want Nicolai to suffer anymore, he had once become the pillar of strength for Inez.
But that came with many sacrifices.
Zena didn’t want her brother to go through that pain again.
“Nico, there is nothing special about that woman. It’s just because you cannot get her that you are feeling like this,” stated Zena as she reached out and touched Nicolai’s forearm. “Just stay away from her for a while, and you will realize that she was never anything to you.”
“Zen—”
“Lose her, or I will tell Mom about her,” said Zena with a warning note in her voice. “I am serious Nico, I don’t want to see you like that again—”
“Zena!” Nicolai raised his voice as he sternly glared at Zena. “I heard it loud and clear the first time, alright?” He added in a softer but firm tone.
Once he was done speaking Nicolai shook his head and said to Zena, “Go inside, mom must be waiting for you.”
Nicolai walked away leaving Zena to turn and look at him. Her hair fluttered behind her due to the wind that was blowing inside the corridor because a window had been left open to let the sunlight inside.
A glimmer of determination flashed in her eyes as she muttered, “If you are hesitant to do it. Then I will do it for you, Nico.”
These words lingered in the silence of the corridor before setting the foundation of fiery chaos that none had any idea about.
On the other side, Nicolai was striding out of the house. His scowl had somehow deepened as he walked down the stairs. Technically, his mother and sister were right.

Ariana meant nothing. So what if he wanted to fuck her? He had wanted to get a bunch of people in his bed and had done so the second he turned sixteen. Zena was right as long as he stayed away from Ariana he could go back to his old ways.
He just needed some time away from her. So, was he giving up?
Ari’s face flashed in front of his eyes and Nicolai clenched his fingers and soon the scene changed —
She was now looking at Noah, like how he wanted her to look at him. And she was smiling at him—motherfucker.
“DAMN IT!” Nicolai cursed as he banged his fist on the trunk of the tree and the sound banged in the eerie silence like the start of a storm.
No, it was impossible for her to mean nothing to him.
She was different. More than anyone could even imagine.
He had never wanted to make a woman his as much as he wanted to chain Ari to his fucking side.
But he had to remove her from his life. She was the cause of this condition of his, she was getting under his skin when it should have been the other way around.
The one who should have broken should have been Ariana.
She was only supposed to be in his bed for a night such that he could rub it in the face of that preppy boy. Ari was supposed to be a fucking pawn for his sadistic satisfaction.
A one-up on Noah.
And here she was —becoming a fucking poison for his heart. It wouldn’t take long before she killed him.
Her constant rejection, denial and running away were fucking him up and Nicolai was not certain if he wanted to play.
It was supposed to be a game, but this game was messing with his head in ways that left him suffocated.
Nicolai loved to keep things physical and yet when Ari suggested it, he went fucking mental. He for the first time realized he wanted more—fucking more from a woman.
Like Nicolai —the Grim Reaper of the Lonest City, the Mad Hound Nicolai de Luca wanted to go on a date where he could spend time with a woman.
No. Not just any woman.
Ariana his personal nightmare Harlow.
He loved spending time with her.
No matter how she rejected him, he would go back to her. Wagging his tail and shit, Nicolai was certain that a junkie would, might be healthier than he at the moment because Ari was taking his life away.
“But this has to stop…” Nicolai muttered as he smacked his hands on the trunk of the tree in his garden. “This cannot go on. I have to —let go of her.”
He couldn’t even imagine how he would survive without her but —
“I can’t do this anymore. I just can’t.”
