Chapter 377: Whips, Lashes and Revenge
Nicolai heard his phone ring and fished it out of his pockets.
“This better be urgent, Aiden,” if he was going to tell him how Noah presented himself as Ariana’s saviour, then he might as well save his breath.
He really didn’t want to hear it.
However, what he heard might have as well moved a bunch of tectonic plates from under the very ground he stood.
With a string of curses, Nicolai turned on his feet and rushed to his car. As soon as he got inside it, without thinking about anything else, he floored the accelerator and drove like a junkie who was out to get his last stock of a very crucial drug.
The amount of parking tickets he received almost broke the world record, but Nicolai did not care. He didn’t have the opportunity to get his name signed or anything else.
Nicolai pushed open the door of his car and climbed the stairs of the hospital before coming to a stop at the ward where Ari should have been sleeping and yet instead of his sleeping beauty—
There were a bunch of policemen who were snooping around the ward.
“Aiden!” Nicolai walked over to his cousin, who was standing a bit far away from the ward. He looked harassed and worried. “How—How could this happen?”
“Nico,” Aiden raised his head and looked at him gratefully like Nicolai’s arrival would magically set everything alright. “I have no idea what happened.”
“I swear, I only went on a round and when I returned —she was gone, I can’t believe that someone took a patient away from the hospital without anyone noticing anything amiss.”
“I mean, someone should have noticed something but—”
“With her getting close to you, is it surprising, Mister de Luca?” An angry voice asked from behind and Nicolai turned to look at Noah who seemed calm as ever, but there was no mistaking the fact that he was suppressing his rage.
Underneath that prim and proper exterior, there was a raging storm burning.
“Are you saying that it is my fault?” Nicolai asked, straightening up to his full height.
As soon as he finished speaking, Nicolai noticed that there was a slight change in the air around Noah. The man looked at him in every bit of seriousness that he could muster and said,
“Ariana is a kind woman. She is not someone who would entangle herself in any of the situations that could be considered a mess, especially one that would lead to her getting kidnapped.”
“The only dangerous mistake she has made is getting close to you.”
Nicolai sneered as he tilted his head to the side and dangerously whispered, “What a kind man you are, Mister Nelson. It’s such a fucking surprise that with all that kindness and affection you have for your ex-wife, she divorced you.”
“Are you sure you don’t have any more kisses to share with the sister of your ex-wife?”
Before Noah could say something, one of the policemen called out to them. “Doctor Aiden.”
Nicolai glanced at the policeman before retracting his murderous attention. He turned to look at the man beside him before turning to look at the policeman. He needed to hear what he had to say.
If they could solve this case their way, then he would leave it to them, but if they handed him some foolish nonsense, then Nicolai wouldn’t mind taking charge of the case in his hands.
The sun was going down and Ari could feel her heart thumping loudly. She wasn’t cheerful about the fact that Samuel had left her alone until now.
Samuel Blevins, the man who had proposed to her and then made her bow her head in apology after threatening her family—no, those people were not her family.
And the man whom she had beaten up with a hockey stick, everyone knew about this, but no one knew of the fact that Samuel had once dragged her here to this very mansion after school.
And it was through sheer dumb luck that Ari was able to escape. Back then she had taken Samuel by surprise by hitting him with her elbow, and as the man was impulsive and young, it hadn’t taken a lot of effort for Ari to escape.
But what now? Her injury was still bleeding, and she hadn’t eaten or drank even a sip of water. Samuel had also taken a lot of precautions, as she could hear the thumping sounds of footsteps.
Like someone was guarding this room.
Ari felt like she was lying in a den of wolves. She wanted to run, but where was she supposed to go? And how?

Noticing a shadow coming to a halt in front of the door, Ari stiffened. She scrambled to one corner and her eyes flickered all over the room when the door was pushed open.
A man stepped in, and even though he had gotten taller and much meaner than he had in the past, Ari still recognized the man.
“Ariana Harlow, what a sweet, sweet surprise,” said Samuel, with his receding hairline he looked even more greasy and slimy than he used to when he was a teen.
Ari eyed the man but did not retort. Instead, she asked, “Why did you ask Ariel to kidnap me?”
“Kidnap?” Samuel repeated with a hint of mock surprise. “How could I ever do that? I paid your sister. A rather good advertisement which would pay her rather well, and she left you in my care. For you to serve and play with me. Wash off the ugly bits in the past, you know?”
‘Ariel,’ Ariana growled in her heart. Even after finding out that the two of them shared no relationship, that woman didn’t skip the chance of taking advantage of her.
“Let me go, Samuel,” Ari said to the man. She wanted to say something harsh about this situation, her condition and how unfair this world was, but instead, she said something opposite, “This is not legal, even if Ariel consented to it. I didn’t, this is a crime, but if you let go of me now…I will not say a word about it. Likewise, I will also apologize to you again, alright?—”
A stinging sensation spread all over her head and Ari felt her head explode. Something warm trickled down her shoulder as pain shot through her right shoulder.
She raised her head and looked at the man who was holding a whip in his hands.
“Apologize?” Samuel sneered. “You, mad bitch. Do you even know the embarrassment I had to feel after you beat me up? And you want me to let you go? In your dreams. I will teach you what it means to offend someone, very —very thoroughly.”
