Chapter 390: Shattered Glass and Memories
On the other side,
Far from the hospital, Ariel was humming a joyful song.
With her eyes closed, she was waiting for her makeup to be done so that she could finish her last shot which needed to be shot for the advertisement.
“Hmm, hmm… Hmmm, hmm,” with her lips pursed she continued to hum. The makeup assistant, who was applying the loose powder under her eyes, looked at her and asked, “Miss Ariel, do you want me to add something else?”
Ariel opened her eyes just for a fraction. She glanced at her reflection before saying arrogantly, “Why did you apply nude lipstick? Aren’t I the main character of this advertisement?”
“Apply a red one, I want to look different from those who will be behind me. I am not the backdrop, you hear that?”
“But—”
Ariel turned her head and looked at the makeup assistant before saying, “Did you say something?”
The makeup assistant originally wanted to tell Ariel that red lipstick would clash with the beige dress that she was wearing.
But upon seeing the expression on Ariel’s face, she changed her words and said, “I will change it now.”
With that, she turned on her feet and walked over to her vanity box which she opened with her fingers. However, even after looking for a while, the makeup assistant didn’t find the red lipstick that Ariel wanted.
She shifted uncomfortably on her feet, before saying, “Miss Ariel, can you wait for two minutes? I need to go and pick a few things that I might have forgotten in my car.” The makeup assistant hoped that she had brought a red lipstick with her today.
Ariel frowned, but she nodded and said, “Go but return as soon as possible.”
“Yes,” the woman replied before running out of the makeup room.
Seeing her run, Ariel rolled her eyes and commented, “Why is she running like that? Do I scare her that much?”
She snorted and shifted on her chair before turning her back to the door. Ariel then picked up her phone and started skimming through her social media account.
The hands on the clock continued moving, and three minutes later, the door of the makeup room opened again.
“Oh, thank goodness. You are here,” without raising her head from her phone, Ariel spoke. “I was getting bored. Come on now, apply the red one.” As she spoke, the sound of the footsteps came closer and closer.
However, the person behind her didn’t move, causing Ariel to furrow her brows as she raised her head and asked, “What is wrong with you—”
The rest of her words were cut off as she looked at the person who stood behind her.
She opened her mouth, just about to let the scream lodge in her throat to be known to the world when the masked man reached out and covered her mouth with his gloved palm.

“Are you alright, Noah?” Brandon asked as he helped Noah up from the floor. His arm was wrapped around Noah’s torso as he pulled him up.
Brandon looked at Noah, who seemed completely shaken and worriedly said, “You need a doctor.”
“I am alright,” Noah answered, as he raised his hand.
He was still reeling in the information that Nicolai had dumped on his head. Earlier he had believed that what happened to Ari was due to Nicolai and his company, but now— his beliefs were turned upside down.
Ariel? Of all people, Ariel was behind this? How could she—why did she even do this?
“What? Having trouble believing it?” Nicolai jeered at him as he shook off Zena who had placed her hand on his forearm in a futile attempt to soothe him.
He took a step forward, and Brandon pulled Noah back hurriedly. With his eyes trained on Nicolai, Brandon said to him, “Mister de Luca, please keep a restraint on your temper. Think of the consequences of your actions.”

Nicolai ignored him. At that moment, the consequences of his actions might as well be damned.
“Three years,” Nicolai hissed at Noah as he reached forward and took hold of Noah’s collar, and this time around Noah didn’t fight back as he was lost in his thoughts and guilt.
Nicolai pulled him close until Noah’s face was inches away from him. “Three damn fucking years! She gave you three—no fucking more than that, Nelson. Now she is lying in the emergency room because of a woman you didn’t take hold of.”
“And yet— the first thing you have to say when I tell you, that woman is behind what happened to Pallas, your initial reaction is to refuse? Why? Are you still sweet on her, eh?” Nicolai questioned.
Maim.
Kill.
Fucking end him.
Real cheerful thoughts flooded his mind and Nicolai would have certainly listened to that voice in his head, if not —
‘No matter what, he is the first man I have cared for. Even if I am no longer by his side, he will always have a part of me.’
The words Ariana said to him echoed in his head, and Nicolai gritted his teeth in annoyance. It had been ages since Ari said those words to him, but he still remembered them.
How could he not? These words stuck in his head like an old nail stuck in a coffin.
Could he even hurt Noah? Was he even in the position to do so? At least Noah had a title to his name— Ariana’s ex-husband.
But what was he? What rights did he even have? He didn’t even have a name.
Nicolai shoved Noah away from him, and the man staggered.
“Fuck!” Nicolai pivoted and raised his foot to kick the trash can. He then turned and pointed a finger at the end of the corridor before saying, “Go. Go and fucking ask that woman, Ariel, or whatever her name is. Why did she do this? What has Ari even done to her?”
“Ask her why she wants to ruin Ari like this?”
“And in case the motherfucking answer is ‘you’,” Nicolai raised his hand and jabbed his forefinger right into Noah’s chest. “You better not come here unless you have dealt with that woman. I don’t want her to suffer like this ever again because of you.”
He stepped away from Noah, whose face was covered in sheer anguish. “You have hurt her enough, Nelson.”
