Chapter 391: Undercurrents
The sound of the doors of the emergency room broke the silence that was slowly freezing like a layer of thin ice.
Everyone turned to look at the nurse who had stepped out of the emergency room. She looked awkward and scared as she glanced at the trash can that had been kicked down by Nicolai.
“Umm. We are in urgent need of blood. As there isn’t enough for the blood transfusion in the hospital blood storage for the time being if anyone is—’
“I will do it,” before the nurse could even relay which type of blood they needed to draw, Emil stepped forward and raised his hand. “You can draw my blood for the blood transfusion.”
Nicolai narrowed his eyes as he studied Emil and asked suspiciously, “Do you even know which blood group they want?”
“I know. It’s O positive right?” Before either Keon or Mateo could stop him, Emil blurted out, and if anything that only intensified Nicolai’s suspicions. Why did this man know something that even Ari didn’t?
Just to test it out, Nicolai questioned, “And how do you know that?”
This question robbed Emil of his ability to speak. He turned to look at his two brothers, both of them glared at him angrily.
In the end, he mumbled quietly, “Doctor Harlow told me.”
Lies.
Ari never knew her own blood group in fact, before this, she didn’t even know that her family whom she took as her own wasn’t even her family.
So how could she tell Emil that her blood group was O instead of A?
“Please follow me,” the nurse spoke to Emil, as she was unaware of the secrets that the silence lingering in the air was hiding.
Nicolai watched Emil leave, his eyes flickering as he did so.
However, his thoughts came to a halt as his phone rang in the pockets of his pants.
Nicolai turned his gaze away from Emil, who was already down the corridor and fished out his phone. Upon seeing the name on the screen, he answered the call at once, “Hello?”

“Kayden,” stepping out of the hospital, Nicolai walked over to the parking lot where Kayden was waiting for him.
The man, who was standing next to a flashy black sports car, shifted on his feet and turned to look at Nicolai. His stern expression turned cheeky as he grinned up at Nicolai, “Cus, where have you been? After dumping that shoddy bag of smelly flesh, you just patted your butt and left. That’s not a good thing to do.”
“Shut it, Kay,” Nicolai usually went along with Kayden as his cousin was the same as him, if possibly worse. He was the only one who asked Nicolai to unleash his demons, except for his mother.
While his mother asked him to do it in a much calmer and restrained manner, Kayden fed his demons anything and everything that they wanted. Whether it was violence or sex, as long as Nicolai said that he was trapped in the bloody haze — Kayden would rise to his help.
Every so often Kayden even offered Nicolai to fight in their usual fighting clubs, in case Nicolai couldn’t get out of his mind with just some punches.
However, tonight—tonight was not one of those days when he was in the mood to play with Kayden and his demons. For his own were in the mood of drawing blood.
“Ooh, it seems like someone is in a bad mood,” Kayden continued to tease him as if he didn’t realize the potential threat that was standing in front of him.
“I can seriously hurt you, Kay. So you better not fuck around,” said Nicolai with a growl. He then asked, “What the fuck did you mean by saying that you could not find that woman?”
Kayden was his tracker, it was simply impossible for someone as foolish as Ariel Harlow to escape from him unless she had external help. But who? Nicolai did not believe that the woman knew anyone who could help her escape from Kayden.
This man was his cousin. If he was the mad hound of this city, then the same blood coursed in Kayden’s veins. How could he miss?
Kayden turned serious as he took out a flash drive and threw it at Nicolai, who caught it in his hand. “I went to look for that woman, I assure you that I had her tracked. She was supposed to be at Terra, the entertainment company under Samuel and his family.”
“However, she wasn’t there,” he added with a solemn expression. “The funny thing is that she never left the company. Her car is still parked in the parking lot and all her things are also left behind.”
“You mean to say that she was dragged away by someone,” Nicolai furrowed his brow as he questioned sharply.

“Could be, or she was already paying attention to Samuel? Maybe she knew that I was coming to catch her, so she bolted?” Kayden suggested, and Nicolai shook his head.
He crossed his arms in front of his greasy black shirt and said, “That is impossible. That woman could never have the brains to do something like this—if she did then she wouldn’t have jumped the gun like this.”
With his eyes narrowing even further, Nicolai remarked, “There had to be someone who doubled-crossed us.”
“The Nelsons?”
“Him,” Nicolai scoffed in disdain. “That man is still yet to believe that woman was the one who plotted all of this. How could he track her down? There is someone else.”
“Kayden, trace down everything that happened tonight. I am certain that we will find something,” Nicolai ordered before adding, “And take a look at the Ashford brothers. Dig deep and hard, I want to see what kind of relationship they have with Ariana.”
Gratitude? Those three men didn’t even show concern more than necessary for their sister. Why would they suddenly care for a doctor who just did her duty?
He didn’t believe a single word that Keon was telling him, there was something more to this, and he was one stubborn, nosy son of a bitch.
