Chapter 392: In the mouth of a Serpent
“How is he, doctor?” came the worried words of Brandon as he peered at Noah who was sitting on the flat bed which was used by the patients during examination.
Noah’s shirt was half open as the doctor in charge of treating his injuries rubbed a medicinal ointment to treat the wound on the side of his abdomen.
The bruise looked terrifying as the area where Nicolai had kicked Noah had turned a dark purplish.
“It’s nothing to worry about,” replied the doctor as he pulled away picked up an ice pack from the table and handed it to Brandon. “Apply this ice pack on the bruise after twenty minutes. Wait until the skin has absorbed the ointment.”
He then turned to look at Noah before advising patiently, “Keep the bruise elevated at all times, Mister Nelson. Though it’s just a small matter, as the damage to your blood vessels is not severe, it can still turn life-threatening if you are not careful.”
“I understand,” Noah answered while bringing the ice pack which was already in his hands to the swelling at the side of his face.
Seeing that Noah was doing alright, the doctor smiled and said, “Then I will take my leave. But if you feel uncomfortable make sure to let me know at once, Mister Nelson.”
After speaking, he gave a small nod to Brandon before pivoting on the balls of his heels and then walking out of the examination room.
Brandon gingerly turned to look at Noah, who was staring down at the floor. The ice pack placed against his cheek, which had swelled dangerously. His blond bangs were fluttering against his forehead, a look of forlorn agony on his face.
For two minutes, neither of them spoke as Brandon didn’t know what to say to his friend and employer, while Noah didn’t seem keen to talk about what just happened outside. The cold air from the air conditioner continued to hum in the silent examination room.
Noah ordered Brandon after a short while, “Find Ariel and bring her to me.”
“Hmm?” Brandon raised his head and looked at Noah in surprise. Seeing him frown and not in the mood to elaborate anymore, Brandon nodded and said, “I will ask a few of our men to bring her to you, Noah.”
As he spoke, Brandon pulled his phone out of his jacket pocket.
“Brandon.”
“Yes, Noah,” responded Brandon. He raised his face and looked at his good friend with knitted brows. “What is it?”
“Is there any chance for me to turn this situation around?”
Brandon would have loved to cheer him up given how beaten and bruised Noah looked, but he also felt that his friend deserved to know the truth. He politely asked, “Do you want me to tell you the truth?”
“Yes,” Noah took a deep breath before exhaling it through his lips. “Tell me the truth. I would like to hear it.”
“No,” replied Brandon.
And as he listened to Brandon reply, Noah closed his eyes, clenching his fists. There was something really strange about those two syllables, they were simple, and he had heard them many times.
Yet, it made his eyes sting and burn.
A wretched smile appeared on Noah’s lips. Even though he knew that what he was doing was futile, he wanted to give his all. But what was the point of trying, when all he brought Ariana was pain and misery?

“Bring her here.”
A cold voice echoed in the silent room and Ariel shivered. She had no idea what had happened or what went wrong all of a sudden.
She was supposed to be filming her dream advertisement and yet out of nowhere, she was brought here.
“Ouch!” She winced in pain when someone walked over to where she was kneeling and pulled her roughly up from the floor.
“W—Where are you taking me?” Ariel asked with a tremor in her voice.
No one answered her, instead the person who was pulling her, tugged her even harder, making Ariel stumble.
‘What’s going on? Who are these people?’ Ariel thought with her heart thumping wildly in her chest.

Were it the Phantoms? Did Nicolai already find out that she was behind Ari’s kidnapping?
That shouldn’t be the case, she had been cautious.
Her train of thought ended abruptly when someone pushed her on the floor harshly.
Ariel gritted her teeth in pain as her knees made contact with the harsh ground.
Someone grabbed hold of her head and pushed it down forcefully, before untying the blindfold around her eyes.
As the fabric slid off her eyes, Ariel blinked her eyes a few times, before squinting her eyes to focus on what was in front of her.
First came a pair of leather shoes that were polished until the brown leather shone in dim lighting.
Ariel skimmed her gaze above the shoes and the long legs that were clad in black pants, followed by a muscular torso and soon her eyes were fixated on a stitched neon mask which stared down at her.
The dark red neon pattern on the face mask looked terrifying under the soft light.
She gasped and scrambled back, but her back hit something hard and Ariel paused. Her breath hitched as she clasped her fingers nervously behind her.
With a slow twist of her neck, she looked up at the man who stood behind her.
Just like his boss, he was wearing a stitched mask. In fact, the entire room where she was forcefully brought was filled with the same kind of stitched masks.
‘Serpents,’ Ariel’s fingers slipped and her lower lip wobbled as she recognized the people in front of her.
While the Phantoms never hid their faces, it was almost impossible to catch them as they were that skilled. The Serpents, on the other hand, were known for their neon stitched masks.
No one knew who was behind these masks as no person alive had ever seen these people without these masks as it was their identity.
Why—had they dragged her here?
