Chapter 393: In the mouth of a Serpent (2)
“Are you wondering what you are doing here, Ariel?” A voice distorted by the voice modifier spoke from the front and even though there was an alluring charm to the low pitch of the voice, Ariel trembled in fright.
She turned her face to look at the front and her eyes met with the man who was the only one sitting in what looked like an abandoned factory.
Though the man’s stance was that of a languid panther, his eyes, the shade of embers were filled with the utmost fury.
“Ah, of course, you are,” he said in a calm and even voice. Ariel flinched as if he had whipped her upon hearing those calm words. She might have fared better if this man was screaming.
Her mother often told her that those who had frightening control over their emotions were really terrifying. And people like these were the ones who she should fear.
The man interlocked his fingers, with his elbows placed on the armrests on either side of his chair. “Well to answer your questions, I had my men bring you here because you —ah, almost ruined my possession. One of the most expensive ones, if I may add.”
“I don’t understand,” said Ariel, fighting the urge to scream and yell. She blinked her eyes and stared up at the man who seemed more than capable of hurting her.
Not just hurting her —but also killing.
“You don’t? My, my. And here I thought that your mother’s genes couldn’t disappoint me any further but here you are,” remarked the man.
He rose to his feet and Ariel shrunk her shoulders, whilst trying to act as inconspicuous as possible even though the man could see her in plain sight.
“I—I really have no idea what you are talking about, sir,” she stammered when she saw the man stepping closer and closer to her. “I don’t know which possession you speak off but —but I am willing to compensate.”
However, Ariel had said the wrong thing.
Roman, who had been suppressing his anger for quite some time, chuckled. He raised his left foot and swiftly kicked Ariel, sending her tumbling down to the ground.
“AHH!” Ariel screamed as she fell to the ground and hit the side of her head on the gravel.
“Compensate?” The man repeated as if Ariel’s sheer audacity to talk of compensating him was stupid and naive. “How can you even compensate me for the damages you have caused to my possession.”
“Even I don’t dare to get too close to her for I fear that I will break her before its time and yet, you dared to send her to another man?” Roman sneered as he pressed his foot on Ariel’s shoulder while pushing her on the harsh ground.
Ariel’s eyes snapped open, for a momentary second, she completely forgot about the pain in her shoulder and head as she turned and looked up at Roman.
“It’s you,” she said with certainty. “You are the one who bought that bi—Ariana.”
“That’s right,” the man stared down at her. “It is me. The very man who bought Ariana, in exchange for giving your parents the very thing that they were greedy as fuck to have. Money.”
“Of course, I am very much inclined on making that lying bitch of a mother of yours cough every penny out,” he remarked as he pulled his foot off Ariel’s shoulder. “I have nothing against her keeping your sister as downtrodden as possible. But she was not allowed to bring Ari to any harm.”
“I believe that I have told this to your mother many times and yet, tsk, tsk, tsk,” Roman clicked his tongue. “She didn’t stop you. She should have done it, knowing that I have asked her to keep Ari’s virtue safe for me.”
“Your mother was supposed to hand me a pristine, clean and perfect specimen. But now that perfection has marks and scars on her body, I don’t believe this was according to our agreement.”
There was utter silence, but two seconds later it was broken by Ariel’s quivering, squeaky voice, “Mum knew nothing. She —she had no idea that I intended to do such a thing.”
“And—and sir, if I am being a tad bit honest with you. You are making a mistake. My sister is not what you think she is, she is beyond saving at this point and in a way, I was doing you a favour, sir.”
Ariel swallowed hard. But when she saw that the man was not stopping her, she continued becoming more and more emboldened, “Instead of her why don’t you look for another woman? Someone much better than her. She is not worthy of you—AHHH!!”
The sound of a gunshot followed by Ariel’s agony-filled scream echoed in the abandoned factory.
Ariel fell back on the ground as blood seeped from her shoulder. Fortunately, she had moved a second ago or else the bullet would have been notched in her throat.
“Take her to the ‘pit’,” said Roman while eyeing Ariel in distaste. He wasn’t pleased with how this woman had condemned Ariana in front of his face.
Earlier he had planned to leave Ariel alone for a while longer as he needed Mrs. Harlow to do his bidding.
But now he changed his plans.

For him, Ari was the substitute and the mirror image of her mother, Kaylyn.
The woman he had loved and been pining after for years.
How could he listen to the nonsense that Ariel was saying about her that too in front of him?
“Yes, boss,” Jared nodded as he turned to face the scar-faced man standing behind Ariel. “You heard, Master Roman. Bring her to the ‘pit,’.”
“No!” Ariel shrieked in terror. The way these men spoke of this ‘pit’, made her feel icky. Even though Ariel had no idea what this place was, she knew that there was something wrong about this so-called ‘pit’.
Her instincts screamed at her to make these men stop.
“Pl—Please let me off, I swear I didn’t mean it. I never knew that you were the person who had bought Ari… and—and she is getting close to Nicolai de Luca.”
